Firstly of all, the staff were great. Heidi was a great help in booking the rooms, as well as transport from Liberia Airport. All the staff on site were good too - always friendly and helpful.

Location - Literally right on the beach for the tree-houses (the two bungalows are set maybe 15 feet back) with great views through the palm trees over the beach to the ocean, the patio set up below the bungalows was such a cool idea. The Treehouse Inn design has to be complimented as well as they're reasonably sympathetic to the look of the area.

The room was great, the raised height gives a level of privacy and clear views. There's a small kitchen, with a reasonable size fridge. The hotel is somewhere in the 2 to 3 star range (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hotel_rating), this plus the location and views, made it pretty good value. Falling asleep and waking to the rolling surf is just the best.

NOTE - The tree-houses don't have A/C (clearly stated on their website), but as long as the fans were cranked up and the picture window was open, it was okay most nights. Someone else on here recommended pointing the fan at the open window overnight to keep most of the mosquitoes out (this worked reasonably well), but the mosquito net was still vital for sleeping.

As you're right on the beach, you'll get some bug life once in a while. If you're like me and a magnet for mozzies, you'll be using spray a lot anyway. That's not to say the area is bug-ridden, it's certainly not, but it's wise to be careful.

The breakfasts are consistently nice (drinks, a fruit plate and rotating item each day) and set you up well for the day, make full use of them! Didn't eat or drink any other time there.

Playa Samara - The town itself feels very safe, pretty laid-back, but set up to handle the surfer/eco-traveller/hippy crowd it attracts and it doesn't have any large hotel developments spoiling the views. The prices were never that cheap it must be said, so just be a bit cautious where you eat, buy souvenirs, as the most central are often the most expensive. Case in point: There is a little store across the road from the hotel ("Super-Samara"), but the prices were bad. Try the Pali supermarket on the road opposite the Samara Adv. Co. - better prices and selection. Everything in town is a short walk from the hotel.

Weather - We went mid-August which is in their 'green' season. This meant it was hot and humid (90F most days). The mornings through to early afternoons were almost always sunny, but the afternoons and often the evenings would be punctuated with prolonged thunderstorms and downpours. An umbrella is a vital thing to pack and always take one out to dinner with you! In August the daylight runs from 6am to 6pm with rapid dawn and dusk, so keep that in mind when planning what to do.

Room Tip: We chose room #3, which did have the least obstructed view of the beach, but still private feeling

We stayed at the Tree House Inn for 1 night in May 2013. We ended up here because the hotel we booked was sketchy, and I refused to stay there. The staff at the Tree House Inn were incredibly friendly and accommodating. We stayed in Tree House 4. The tree houses themselves are gorgeous. They are made of local wood. Each house also has an open window right on the beach with breath taking views. Each house includes a living area, kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom with mosquito net. Underneath each tree house is a hammock, table, and grill. Breakfast was good with eggs, toast, fruit, and all the coffee you wanted. The downside to this place is no a/c in the 4 tree houses, and in May it was miserably hot for us. They do have 2 bungalows with a/c, but they don't have the beach view. We did feel it was a little on the expensive side, but as I was desperate not to stay at the hotel we had booked, we happily paid it.

A little slice of paradise..........we really liked this place :) - even though the photos are beautiful they somehow don't do it justice.
We stayed in Bungalow 5 - each bungalow has a bedroom, a lounge area (with very comfortable sofabed), bathroom and small kitchen with large fridge. There were ceiling fans and an additional stand alone fan in the bedroom. Personally I was not too hot but my traveling buddy felt the heat a bit. The bungalows are beautifully made, lots of gorgeous wood and chunky furniture and have views right onto the beach. We loved the fact that "downstairs" we had a patio area for ourselves with 2 hammocks, a table (where we ate breakfast), a grill, outdoor sink etc. We decided to have a BBQ one night and had everything we needed.
There are also sunbeds right outside the gate on the beach, an outdoor shower and a small pool.
Samara is a great place to stay if you want a beautiful beach, some stunning sunsets and don't need much party life. There are a few restaurants but not really a scene. But there again we were out of season.
Hotel very flexible re pricing when they have late ability so cheeky but always worth asking........
I would highly recommend. Granted it was the most expensive place i've stayed but it was absolutely good value for money.
Whilst i didn't see inside the pool rooms looked quite small.

Room Tip: It is honestly worth paying the extra money and going for a bungalow if one is available and you can stretch to it.

We stayed two nights in the Samara Tree House Inn. It is visually stunning! Nothing too fancy but absolutely adorable. It will make you feel 10 again! It is fully equipped with a kitchen and a grilling area beneath. The views and location cannot be beat! You literally feel like you own this little piece of paradise. The staff is super accommodating and friendly. The breakfast served is simple and fulfilling, a card of what will be served daily is located in the room. This is Costa Rica and yes there are bugs, mostly mosquitoes, so chances are you will come out with some bites as the net can only do so much. If you cannot deal with that do not stay here. The tree houses are not air conditioned but the breeze coming form the ocean is sufficient to cool the place down. Expect to fall asleep to the sound of waves crashing and wake up to the sounds of a bird orchestra.

Room Tip: Try to get Three House Three as it appears to have the most unobstructed view of the ocean. Also, if you want to do the horse riding tour don't bother going through the tour booking agencies. There are locals with beautiful, well taken care of horses right on the beach. You will save yourself some money and have an experience of a life time. Lidia was our local tour guide and despite our lack of the Spanish language she managed to give us an experience we will surely not soon forget.

The type of place / location that you see on pictures and say "that would be awesome!" We'll, it is and affordable!... Simply amazing location... Relived childhood fantasies as a grown up with my wife, definitely will come back and bring the kids...

It's a tree house, do not expect a five star resort like some of the reviews here. However, units are fully equipped with a kitchen, morning breakfast, nice pool and right in town close to shopping and food. The staff is better than I've had in many high end resorts. We will be frequent customers.

Room Tip: No A/C in tree houses. Two rooms available on floor level with AC right next to pool. However, being able to have a window free view of the beach is worth it! Bed has mosquito net so all is good. We set up fan facing main beach window and that kept mosquitos away. Center house as of 08/2013 has screened main window.
