We were very fortunate to find the Fenix Hotel. It is right on the beach, with a meticulously maintained beautiful garden and plenty of hammocks and cushioned lounge chairs to relax and watch the ocean and the sunset. Our room had a perfect little kitchen, equipped with a refrigerator, stove, and necessary items needed to prepare meals.
The owner, Phyllis, went out of her way to ensure that all of our multiple questions were answered. She found excursions for us to do, and promptly notified us if there were any postponements due to rain. She booked affordable transportation for us to travel to Monteverde and was happy to make any and all phone calls needed, saving us international charges on our phones.
The hotel is about a 15 minute walk (along the beach) from the little town of Samara, which had stores, banks, and restaurants. We stayed during the rainy season in October, but were able to spend the rainy time studying Spanish through the Academia de Espanol Nicoya. Our instructor drove to our hotel daily for our lessons and we were able to sit poolside, under the hotel eaves, which created a beautiful classroom.
I hope to stay at Hotel Fenix again soon.More
