Sunrise Condos of Tamarindo

Beware that every condo is privately owned at Sunrise. We stayed here two years in a row. Last year's was beautiful - 4th floor. This year's was very disappointing. Unit #02 is in desperate need of paint and updating. Beds and pillows were shabby and uncomfortable. Cushions on living room sofa were quite stained. Kitchen was poorly stocked. Three of four burners worked on the stove top. Overall it was very shabby. Sunrise Condos are safe, grounds are well-kept, it is affordable - especially for families and in a fantastic location, pool is very clean. Walk to beautiful, clean beach just across the street, many shops and great restaurants. Lots of excursions to book just across the street. Just beware of which condo you choose to rent.

Room Tip: Try to get a view of the pool/ocean but be careful to choose an updated condo as compared to one tha...

Condos are individually owned so interiors vary. We stayed in the penthouse oceanview. Our unit was very nice. The condos are a great location for walking to the beach and restaurants. The pool is very nice compared to other condos in the Tamarindo area. Depending on the condo, there may or may not have any ocean views. I would still highly recommend these condos.

For the price, this place is great. I traveled to Tamarindo with my husband and two adult children. We actually stayed in two different units during our one week stay. The first unit was #43. It was on the third floor and overlooked the back of the Aqua Disco and the parking lot. You could see the beach from our patio, so it was fine. The unit was well equipped and you really can't beat the location of these condos.

The last two nights we stayed in Unit 12 which faced the Daria. This unit was bigger and a little nicer, but more expensive. NOTE: If you are looking for howler monkeys, they are in the trees early in the am at the Daria, so we saw them (or heard them first, then saw them) from our front porch.

We walked across the street to the beach every day and the location was great because there were two small grocery stores on the street just outside the condo. We would pick up food for lunch each day and cook in the condo. There is also a big grocery store within a very short ride (or longer walk) down the road. Everyone walks to the grocery store because you see people around dinner time walking with bags in their hands.

Tamarindo beach was fun. It's not as beautiful as the carribean beaches, but the surf was fun and EVERYONE surfs. My husband and son rented a board for $8.00 for the day just to try it.

The pool at the hotel had ample lounge chairs and it wasn't really crowded at any given time. We would come back from the beach and hit the pool, which seemed to be the norm.

One of the nice things about the location of the Sunrise is that it is centrally located in Tamarindo, so you can walk to dinner each night and there are activities that you can walk to.

We walked down the beach and did an estuary tour on a boat through the mangroves. We say crocodile and lots of birds. We stopped and walked through the woods to find monkeys. It was $20.00 per person, which was worth it.

Room Tip: Book through Orbitz or Tamarindo Vacations. If you use Vacations by Owner, try to find a unit where...

We spent a week at the Sunrise Condos and loved it! It is right across the street from the beach. It is located in the center of town, walking distance to everything, including grocery stores, shopping and great restaraunts. No need for a car. We stayed in unit 38, which was very clean and well stocked with every amenity. We loved the ocean view and could watch our teens swim from the balcony. The pool was large and clean and the gardens were well maintained. The complex was very quiet. The disco is near building #4, so I could see how it could be loud in units 40 and higher. The only thing we heard was the waves at night and an occasional howler monkey. We stayed in Flamingo beach last year, but found Tamarindo and Sunrise to be more family friendly with much more to do. We booked through BlueWater Properties and they were very helpful. Our kids took surfing lessons and we took the canopy tour which was a blast! I believe that each unit is privately owned, so be sure to view pictures. We loved Tamarindo and the Sunrise Complex and hope to return to the same condo next year!

Room Tip: Book through Blue Water properties and view pictures before renting.

We stayed here for 2 1/2 months, and while I was worried that we would miss having the nature around us that we'd had in our previous residence, this made up for it. The location was right across the street from the beach- you didn't even have to put shoes on to walk over! Everything was in walking distance- stores, surf shops, pharmacies, gift shops. restaurants & bars and even a casino. My husband surfed every morning and then went back for a sunset session, or just surfed all day long! We went back and forth from the pool to the beach on the days we weren't off adventuring.
Jonathan in the office was so nice and helpful, and Juan wrestled giant iguanas out of the trees so we could see them! The pool was beautiful, and the howler monkeys came to visit almost every day! A great place to stay with all the comforts of home! (mostly Americans staying or living here though, so get out to meet the locals- they're great!)

We stayed in MAY OF 2012.Our unit [348 ] faced the Aqua Disco, which is 3 stories high and blocked the view. The noise on weekends is loud until late.Take earplugs .Tamarindo is basically 4 blocks long, with a lack of pavements, dusty ,unpaved roads and expensive Restaurants. The locals will never be seen eating at them .The beaches are brown, with a slight dark, black oily residue on them. The locals are very nice, friendly and always have a smile...no problem. You do not need long pants for anything !It is very safe ,specially at night, even though the streets which are one block off the main street do not have lighting.
Use tamarindo as a base ,relax one day, then visit Arenal ,Vieja de la Rincon, or even Nicaragua if you like .!There are no Air conditioned restaurants...so August/September is probably very uncomfortable.Try the Catamaran half day tour, very nice. One week is way tooo long here !Cuban cigars are plentiful .

Room Tip: Penthouses...check the veiw first !
