This is a nice, wide beach with stronger waves which is why there are so many surfers nearby. It's not that bad with families with older kids, but travelling with younger one's is a bit more challanging. There is little place to find shade and the ammount of people makes it more a local city beach rahter than a remote beach destination.

There are many shops, ticos and restaurants to chose from, altough agree, they are overpriced (did not use them). There are small boat tours provided from the beach to the nearby National Park. People who do not aim to go to Manuel Antonio or other parks told us it was an "ok" alternative.

Rustic town, plenty of shops, restaurants, great surfing. Great for families. Loved it. Most roads are gravel except main road. Walk to everything. Beaches are beautiful, in an untouched way. Sat under a tree on the beach and read all day. Heaven.

It's great for surfing and swimming. Plenty of spots to swim with family and friends and to stay out of the surfers way. You do have to watch out for rocks in the water, at low tide they are visible.
The vendors are all friendly and are not pushy. We spent many days here relaxing and enjoying the sun. The sunset is perfect!

Most of the beaches we visited only had a few people on them and there were no vendors trying to sell their wares. Tamarindo was quite touristy but we went to check it out and to buy some souvenirs. The town is full of shops and restaurants. The beach is big and probably good for people watching. If you want a beach to yourself, try the beaches to the north. The next beach to the north, Playa Grande, was empty with lighter sand and no rocks.

Clean, calm beach. Surfers tend to be in one area, calmer waters on the other side. Beach chairs and umbrellas are available for daily rental. And people sell fresh coconuts for $2 on the beach all day.
