“Peaceful and safe”
Reviewed 16 April 2014

We stayed 5 nights at Mamiri and were very happy with the fact that despite only being a fiew blocks away from the busy main street, it was nice a quiet and we felt very safe.
Maria-Teresa and Sergio were great hosts. They were very accomodating and you can see that they work very hard. Make sure to ask Maria-Teresa for your local activities and she will hook you right up. We went on a great nocturnal turtle watching tour that was amazing.
She is also very caring and takes the time when possible to see all her guests as they prepare for their day and asks them what is planned and gives tips.
The room was simple but clean. Actually, it was so windy when we stayed, I was amazed how hard it must be to keep the dust and sand out! But the cleaning staff is always busy sweeping and cleaning.
The communal kitchen is rudimentary but just fine. We ended up buying some food and preparing it there for our last two luches. There is a fridge available for our use there.
We were in room 5 and had a working tv, AC and ceiling fan. We frequently had howler monkeys in the tree right out our window and I must say that I got better footage here than in all of CR.
One block away there is a Super 2001 which has a good deal of things.
Personally, I thought the breakfast was fine. A nice big bowl of fruit with 2 pancakes or toast and some coffee. In this heat, I didn't need more... and I usually have quite an appetite!
The only thing I was less happy about was that breakfast only starts at 8am. Which is a little late for me since I am up early. But that was a minor issue.

Great place to stay. The owners are very helpful and will offer suggestions from destinations to places to eat. Our room had a very good working A/C unit, a nice comfortable bed, and clean bathroom. The breakfast was simple but good. There are howler monkeys that come out in the morning to eat the fruit from some of the fruit trees located on this hotel's property.

The hotel was in a great location! Very small walk to the main shopping and beach.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 days at the beginning of April.

It's in a perfect location just off of the main strip, it took less than a minute to walk anywhere but was quiet at night so we could strip.

Theresa knows where all the best close by beaches are that you can visit if you are looking to see Tamarindo's surrounding areas! And she definitely know all the best places to eat in town. Let her know what you are looking to eat and how much you want to spend and she will send to you to somewhere with amazing food!

If you plan on doing any tours while in Tamarindo be sure to ask Theresa to book then for you, she can usually contact the tour operator directly so you don't get charged the commission fees that the the desks in town charge.

The hotel itself has a beautiful garden where you can see lots of different birds, iguanas, geckos while you are having dinner! The rooms were basic but had all the necessities including a fridge and air conditioning and the communal kitchen we didn't really use but found it came in handy when we were looking for cups and ice!

If we ever had back to Tamarindo we would 100% stay here again.

This is a nice BnB/Inn run by an Argentinian couple. They run it with abit of a European flair, with a strong focus on a common social area (the courtyard in the center). Good pricing for the area but beware - they reserve the right to toss out non-registered guests.

This can be an issue for a single guy (it's a surf town after all) but I took I that if you don't go crazy making noise that they would leave you alone. They do advertise it as a family hotel although they do not take it to the extremes of European family hotels (eg, you don't check in your room keys on entry/exit like most family hotels in Europe require). So if you are looking to host wild nighttime parties, you may wish to look elsewhere.

Location is good, a block from the main area of town and about two blocks to the beach. It's not surf side but all of those hotels will have noise issues at night.

The included breakfast is abit monotonous since it's always fruit/pancakes or fruit/toast. A simple option that would be great is they made a hits option - Greek style yogurt and granola. Something with protein that does not require a lot of work as the couple running the place has to do everything with minimal extra staff - so I don't foresee them adding more complex breakfast choices. But one choice with some kind of protein would be nice.

Overall though, I liked the place and the deal was a good deal especially for high season. Suggest booking directly with them vs using a third party site.

Teresa and Sergio go the extra mile daily. They are so sweet and helpful, you can't help but to love them. Not too far from the beach, yet a far better location than beachfront for folks that want a little bit of peace and quiet. The hotel is shaded with a very nice garden area for mingling and coffee and is located directly across the street from the new Banco Nacional. Walking to the beach is a fun experience. Exit the Mamiri to the left and in a hundred feet to your right is Monkey La La, a really great Costa Rican Bar - Steve is the bartender/manager and he will treat you with friendliness and helpful info. Continuing west towards the beach are a few more eateries (La Bodega - Organic food, wow, so delicious). At the intersection where the tall condo building/apt stands (you can't miss it) is a super market (2001) small, but packed with lots of interesting stuff. Bear to your right and take the street past Carlos and his transportation service on the right and past the Conchal shopping area - cross the main street and, yala, you are at the beach. Tamarindo has a very beautiful beach - surfers to the north, fisherman in the middle and swimmers to the south. Watch for the vendors selling handmade pots and parrot whistles, they are a hoot. Mamiri and Tamarindo exude the "Pura Vida" that is truly Costa Rica.

Room Tip: We were in room #7 - a musical celling fan, small frig and remote controlled A/C. Directly across fr...

Sergio and Teresa were wonderful hosts - so good that we decided to cancel our plans to go to Nicaragua and we decided to stay for another week at Hotel Mamiri. We had an amazing breakfast every morning in the garden - the perfect sat up for a day's surfing/hiking/sunbathing in Tamarindo. All in all hotel stay memories we will always treasure!
