“Excellent and safe Boutique Hotel”

First time to Costa Rica. Stayed at Hotel Capitan Suzio. Excellent and friendly staff. Howler monkeys came every night as well as a Porcupine that they adopted. Also played with raccoons that would come into the lobby. They were playful and friendly. The pool was refreshing, the grounds lovely, and rooms were clean and comfortable. Every excusion we went on was very enjoyable. We went on the Arenal Volcano tour. It is a long day, but the trip to this side of Costa Rica is lush and you get to see the countryside. We also did the horseback riding, zip-lining, lunch, and tubing tour. It was great! Sailed on the Hibiscus catamaran where we snorkeled, had lunch and saw whales. On the way back, you get to see a wonderful sunset. It is on the Pacific, so the beach is cool, not cold, and its great if you want to learn how to surf. Hotel Capitan Suzio is a 30 room boutique hotel that gives you a private, yet cozy feeling. During the dry seaon which is December to May, you do need to use bug spray. You also need sunscreen and a good pair of hiking or watershoes.

This is a very pleasant resort with tastefully furnished bungalows or suites, beautiful landscaping, a nice pool and an array of fun visitors: howler monkeys, raccoons, iguanas, local blue jays, and even a humongous toad and resident cats. We felt right at home and loved the fact that the resort is right on the beach yet not too close to Tamarindo. If you do want to go to town, you can reach it via the beach - it's a 20-minute walk.

A good buffet breakfast is included in the room rate, and the on-site restaurant offers good dinner and lunches, and bar food. All very pleasant and tasty. Try the cold cucumber soup. Very refreshing and has a few large shrimp floating around. Yum!

The restaurant too has regular visitors: beautiful blue jays visit at breakfast time, and geckos in the evening.

If you don't enjoy nature and need a TV, room service and polished interiors, don't bother coming here. Otherwise, I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Air conditioned suites may be preferable as it does get pretty hot.

My husband and I just returned from spending a week in paradise. We were looking for a beach vacation, in a quiet, relaxing, boutique hotel. The Capitan Suizo was just that, and so much more. We stayed in a bungalow, which I highly recommend. It is very private and spacious. We were steps away from an amazing beach; with a never ending coastline. The daily breakfast was more than continental, with an abundant of fresh fruits, breads, and many other hot and cold choices. We also ate lunch and dinner there a few times, which was delicious!! The town of Tamarindo is a 10 minute walk either by way of beach or road. The only bad meal we had in town was at one of the bigger resorts. Be sure not to miss the Friday night barbeque, it is fun. The monkeys were amazing; as well as all the other wild life that you see on the premises. You will not be disappointed in this property, or in Costa Rica!

My wife and I spent a week here. It is a very special and beautiful hotel. It is well maintained with beautiful woodwork and gardens. The pool area is quite large and inviting. The open-air restuarant has excellent food and a great view of the ocean. The staff was very professional and helpful --- it was quite easy to arrange activities in the area. I also liked that the rooms do not have televisions which led to a more tranquil and restful experience. Before making the reservation, I was a little concerned that the hotel was not located in the heart of Tamarindo. But it's a very pleasant 10-15 minute walk, either along the beach or the road, to the shops and restaurants in town. It is actually nicer to be slightly removed from town. I really can't say enough positive things about my experience with Capitan Suizo, and I hope to return some day.

Dear guests
Thank you for all your feedbacks we have received over the last few weeks and indeed for the whole of 2012. It is also wonderful to see that the year 2013 has started so great and with a lot of positive comments from so many guests. Many of you wrote how beautiful our gardens are and how well maintained the grounds are. You mentioned our nature friendly approach and the fact that many animals, such as howler monkeys, porcupines, racoons and many birds, are visiting our hotel regularly and are feeling quite at home here. You also remarked on our excellent restaurant with its ocean view, the quality breakfast buffet and the excellent location of our hotel directly on the beach. Several of you commented on our helpful, friendly staff and the amazing service they provide and that you enjoyed the ambience at the hotel. It is wonderful to hear that so many of you are planning to come back to Capitan Suizo in future and all your comments are very much appreciated. Thank you all so much.

The hotel consists of several bungalows surrounded by loads of greenery. After a minutes walk you arrive to the secluded area of the beach, which is full of pelicans nd terns which are busy fishing. You may also organize to have dinner on the beach which is very romantic. The members of staff are very friendly and will go out of their way to make you happy. The grounds are also visited by howler monkeys and raccoons. Having dinner and drinks here is also a good idea. Loved it

We stayed her first on our honeymoon. This was after two very price, highend resorts - And Hotel Capitan Suizo was our favorite by far! We've been back two more times. Great location and quiet end of the beach and easy walk to town. Delicious food in the restaurant lots of extras to keep you entertained like kayaks and boogie boards. Clean crisp rooms. Friendly staff. Perfect for families we went with our son at six-months-old and this last time with our 3 and 5 year-old.

This was the last hotel we visited on our 3 weeks trip to Costa Rica. We had an AC Bungalow and loved it very much. The bungalow was very spacious and we loved the outdoor shower. On our last night, I was having my shower while the monkeys were climbing around in the tree above me. It was definitely a special experience.
Apart from monkeys there are a lot of other animals that can constantly be spotted on the hotel grounds. The funniest incident was certainly with a porcupine which literally fell of a tree right next to us while we were playing Yatzy outside our apartment in the evening. I do not know, who was more shocked, the porcupine or us, especially since we did not have the slightest clue what kind of animal was standing in front of us.

The hotel has a great garden and is well outside Tamarindo, which is already a bit too touristy to our liking. You could rent surf boards or use boogie boards and the waves in front of the hotel were just perfect for beginners like us.

The restaurant was very good and we were served a huge chocolate cake for my husband’s birthday the last night. The only downside is that it is a bit pricey and we have visited hotels where the value you get for your money is better.
