“Breathtaking!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 April 2014

To say that this is just a lodging is so off the mark. To stay here is an amazing experience! We stayed here for the last two nights. We went to bed in a sweet casita with a bed more comfortable than my own, a kitchen stocked with red and white wine, beer, soda, food delivery and this doesn't even scratch the surface of it. We went to sleep and woke up in a beautiful little park filled with rescued toucans, sloths, scarlet macaws, blue and gold macaws, and so many other animals. We fell asleep to the hoot of owls. We had breakfasts of banana pancakes, fresh papaya, pineapple, watermelon, coffee, juice, etc. that we had on an outdoor porch surrounded by animals, kindness and compassion that most people don't have any idea how to muster. Leslie is an angel and my son now wants to have a parrot and name him Jorge after Leslie's husband who was so wonderful with my ten-year old son. We had the most wonderful time possible here. I would recommend ths to anyone who wants a real experience rich in kindness and the wildlife of Costa Rica. Awesome in the truest sense!

Room Tip: I would recommend a couple nights here. One night isn't really enough in my opinion. We had a...

Two words: Absolutely incredible!

Besides the property being completely inviting so is Lesley and her husband. The view and beauty of everything around you is just an extra bonus of what you end up experiencing at the Toucan Rescue Ranch.

Due to our GPS we spent two hours of feeling like we were going around in circles trying to locate the ranch, we finally decided to call Lesley...and yes she came and rescued us too! :)

She's simply amazing and she has such a huge heart for animals & people!

To say the least we couldn't have picked a more perfect place to stay at for our first night in Costa Rica! Our kids, 19, 17 and almost 12 loved it!

Highly recommend staying here for at least two nights, and if your anything like us where you want to see and do everything, then at least stay one night! It'll be an experience that you will never forget! Just be prepared that you will most likely leave the ranch feeling like your saying good-bye to family and animals that you got to know.

If a person feels like helping out with the animals on the ranch, there are several things you can consider. Donate baby blankets for the sloths to sleep with, toucan food, and cash to help feed and shelter animals.

It was one of our best nights in Costa Rica!

If you're flying from San Jose, I would HIGHLY recommend staying here either on your first or last night. It is about a 30-40 minute drive from the airport and the accommodations are very comfortable. It is so much more pleasant staying here than in the city. More importantly, the experience of seeing all the animals up close is very unique and completely rounds out seeing a couple animals in the wild.

Leslie, Jorge, and Carol do wonderful work and they all went above and beyond to ensure that we had a great time and that we were well taken care of.

Also, the small outdoors restaurant down the road (I believe it's called La Posada) is delicious and affordable.

If you're traveling to Costa Rica, you must visit the Toucan Rescue Ranch!

“If you want a five star hotel, stay at one. If you want to experience a unique, magical experience and support rescued animals stay here! I stayed here for a few nights the second week of March 2014. I found the whole experience wonderful. The cottage is clean and comfortable. The breakfast is good and plentiful. I asked Leslie and Jorge question after question about the work they do with the animals and they were informative and respectful with answers. In fact I felt they both went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. If you like birds, the sounds and view of various birds here is excellent! So peaceful to sit in the rockers and watch and listen to so many birds both wild and rescued on the property. For animal lovers the breakfast on the deck with the baby animals is a rare and special moment. Not something that happens at every hotel that’s for sure! Included in the cost of the cottage booking is a two hour tour of the rescue animals and facility. Carol who led our tour was genuine, funny and knew a lot about the animals and the stories that bring them here. This tour would be a great up close adventure for children allowing them to learn and bond with the wildlife in Costa Rica. In fact when I was flying home I had a few hour layover at the airport so I watched a video of one of the baby sloths I had filmed at the recuse center. A ten year old boy walked by and saw the film of the little sloth. He immediately came over and said “Is that a 3 toed sloth! His face and eyes filled with wonderment. For the next half hour we became friends as we looked at pictures I took of the animals. Then it was his turn to ask me question after question about the animals at the rescue center! I kept thinking what a bond he would have with these beautiful creatures if he could see them in person.
The work at the Toucan Rescue Ranch is demanding and Leslie and Jorge receive no funding. So, BOOK a tour, make a donation for a new clinic or stay a night or two at the Bed and Breakfast. Enjoy a win, win situation for all involved. Help for the animals and a great stay for you! Gracias Lesile y Horhay, para una estancia cordial y maravillosa en el rancho.

What a great way to start our trip off in Costa Rica. We have been to Costa Rica many times but this is one of the stops we will not forget. We spent our first night at the Rescue Ranch. Leslie was great in getting us settled in our guest house. It was nice, clean and plenty big enough for all 5 of us. We took the tour and learned about the animals and how many of them have been rescued. As the sun began to fall and it got dark many of the nocturnal animals came alive. The sloths, owls, and kinkacho's(don't know if this is the correct spelling) all began to move. So many times we see these animals during the day and they are sleeping. It was a great experience to see them moving about and getting their breakfast in the morning. I would definitely reccommend making a short stop at the Rescue Ranch.

My family and I traveled to CR with the primary goal of heading to Manuel Antonio. We decided after a long flight we didn't want to drive to the coast right away and decided to spend an evening in the San Jose area. We found the Toucan Rescue Ranch and I am extremely happy that we did. The accommodations were clean, beautiful and welcoming. Most importantly: Leslie and Jorge were EXTREMELY friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I want to stress that the TRR is so much more than toucans. Leslie has a who menagerie of animals. The tour she gave offered us a chance to see and learn up close about all the animals we were hoping to see in Manuel Antonio: Toucans, monkeys, sloths, and countless other creatures. We left for the remainder of our trip feeling like we were given a head start.

The TRR is a must see.

This Guesthouse is very clean, and comfortable.
Leslie and Jorge are SO friendly and happy to tell you about all their animals..
The most amazing part is when you get breakfast in the morning. Leslie brings the baby animals out to the porch to join you for breakfast!!! They had a baby sloth, spider monkey and otter!!
The prices are very affordable and they'll go out of their way to accommodate you.
This is one of my top choices for all of Costa Rica!!
This place is very special, just wish we'd stayed longer.
Also very close to Sibu Chocolate, definitely also worth a visit!
