“Wow! Wonderful stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2014

My Wife and I had an incredible stay at Playa Negra Guesthouse. We stayed in the Green Cottage. The property is has beautiful landscaping and a relaxing pool. The property is just across the street from the beach. This stay was truly special because of the staff - Marise and Pierre. Marise was always around to answer our questions and make recommendations. Pierre took me on an incredible hike in the national park. This is the best place to stay in Cahuita, we highly recommend it.

We were 3 friends travelling accross Costa Rica and started with Cahuita. We had a wonderful stay at the Playa Negra Guesthouse (Blue Cottage).
Everything was super clean, and comfortable. The whole property is really beautiful and well maintained.
Pierre and Marise are very friendly, Pierre took us to visit the jaguar rescue center and the national park and learned us where to look to locate monkeys and sloths in the trees, his advices have been helpful during our whole stay across the country :) You won't be disappointed if you stay there. Have a nice trip!

We had an incredible stay at Playa Negra Guesthouse. The property is wonderful, with beautiful landscaping and and a relaxing pool just across the street from the beach. But what made this stay truly special was the staff - Marise and Pierre. Marise was always around to answer our questions and make recommendations. Pierre took us on a hike to show us a local waterfall away from the usual tourist attractions It was a great way to see a part of the area we would not have found on our own. They made us feel like we were staying with friends. We stayed in one of the double rooms - which had a lovely small garden enclosed by a large fence to make for a beautiful view out of the sliding glass doors. It was a perfect size for a couple, but would also have worked well for a couple with a child. I loved that it was close to the town, but a little off the path from where the restaurants and bars were. While we stayed at other places in Costa Rica that were more luxurious, that luxury would have felt out of place in a Cahuita vacation. And the price can't be beat for the what we received.

We stayed at the Playa Negra Guesthouse (Blue cottage) for 5 nights in June 2014. We had an excellent time. The grounds were maculate, the cottage cozy and clean and the managers (Pierre and Marise) were wonderful and made our stay so enjoyable! It was so much more than we expected and we would defiantly go back!

We came to Playa Negra Guesthouse from a very rustic home in Playa Cocles (in which we very much loved). Checking in to the Playa Negra Guesthouse was the lap of luxury from where we had just come from. It was fresh, very clean and the pool was just what we needed. Marise was very informative and helpful! Our accommodations were great. We rented the Blue Cottage for 5 of us (3 adults, a 7 year old and a 9 month old). Marise delivered a pack n play, an extra cot and an extra fan for us immediately upon request. The daily housekeeping was so very nice! We enjoyed sitting on the patio, loved the gardens and sounds of birds, bugs and howler monkeys. We loved the location in which we were directly across the beach from Playa Negra and a short (hot) walk in to the town of Cahuita and the entrance to Cahuita National Park. Nice touches included fresh flowers on our dining table, honor system drinks at the pool (including beer and wine), book exchange, boogie board to use and secure parking. We have already decided this is the place we will return to the next time we visit the area! Highly recommended.

Room Tip: This is a small and quiet property. We loved the Blue Cottage and also took a sneak peak at the Yel...

We loved our stay here - relaxed and cool pace to life. We spread out across the lovely Yellow cottage loving its veranda. Beach just across the road was all ours and amazing waves and always great to cool down in the lovely pool. Service great and they give you lots of fresh beach/pool towels. I'd recommend Brigitte's just round the corner for breakfast as well - amazing banana pancakes and gallo pinto with the freshest and best avocado I've tasted. Try and catch a movie at the Italian in calhuita too

I take reviews with a grain of salt but in this case not only were the positive reviews accurate but the visitors pictures as well. Pierre and Marise were great hosts and Pierre's guide through the Cahuita National Park was both informative and fun, not to mention free. The grounds are kept immaculate, the pool sparkling clean and totally up to the standards of our 9 & 6 year old boys. Very, very much enjoyed our 4 nights there. And a little FYI, Bridgette's little breakfast cafe right next door puts out a very tasty, and filling breakfast. Our boys were very fond of her banana pancakes....me too. The walk into Cahuita was very pleasant and you never knew what you may see, from Howler monkeys to sloths grasshoppers the size of a humingbird (again much to the pleasure of our boys). Cahuita was cool in a non-presumptuous way. Two dinners sitting outside at Rocco Rica's were excellent as was lunch at Miss Edith's. I had the jerked beef and it was hot and tasty ! All in all we really enjoyed our stay at Playa Negra and should we have the good fortune to return for a second time to Costa Rica we would definitely stay there again.
