“Beautiful place”
Reviewed 5 August 2014 via mobile

Pierre and Marisa and the best host ever. The location was beautiful and the garden aswell. We stayed in the room for one night, in the yellow cottage for two nights and in the room for last night. We really enjoy everything. The place it would be perfect if the breakfast was included, anyway all rooms have a kitchen so you can organize yourself. There is also a BBQ close to the pool ...
Lovely place that I reccomend if you are in Cahuita.
Finally Pierre and Marisa were really helpful in indicatig the best things to do and where to eat.
We really enjoy the walk in the park with Pierre that has a great eye for animals ...

The Playa Negra Guesthouse is a true gem. The grounds are phenomenal and beautiful. It's amazing to walk around and take in all of the plants, trees, flowers and animals! The pool is amazing as well. The location is extremely close to amazing beaches and within a short walking distance to restaurants/bars/grocery store. Also, close by is the National Park which is highly recommended. You will see tons of wild animals! But, one of the best aspects to the Guesthouse are Marise and Pierre who run the property. They are so very friendly and helpful. They helped us with recommendations on what to do and see in the town, what restaurants to go to, etc. Pierre had an adventure planned every day and we got to go with him on a few! He pointed out all of the wild animals. One day, he even brought us to Puerto Viejo to the animal sanctuary and brought us around to some incredible beaches. I would highly recommend staying here!

Room Tip: All rooms are amazing! The houses looked incredible though.

Marise and Pierre are great hosts who not only made us feel comfortable in our accommodations, but also provided great advice, rides and guided hikes around the area. We had decided not to rent a car, so this was very helpful. Pierre is a regular pied-piper who gathered a small tour group wherever we went with him. He's got a great eye for wildlife, spotting sloths, monkeys, basilisks and more, and also seems to know everybody in town. After we moved down the road to another town, he gave us a ride and helped us check out availability at a few hotels.

We stayed in the yellow cottage, which comfortably housed 5 of us in two bedrooms. The kitchen was very functional and was fully stocked with pots, pans, knives and more. The front porch was great for spending time on a rainy day while we were there. We read, played cards and saw an agouti, sloth, frogs and more.

It is really nice & calm place. Our room had outdoor sitting which was quite nice... It is next to beach, restaurants and walkable distance to downtown...

Also, Marise was really helpful at reception as well as suggesting places in cahuita...

Overall, great experience!

My Wife and I had an incredible stay at Playa Negra Guesthouse. We stayed in the Green Cottage. The property is has beautiful landscaping and a relaxing pool. The property is just across the street from the beach. This stay was truly special because of the staff - Marise and Pierre. Marise was always around to answer our questions and make recommendations. Pierre took me on an incredible hike in the national park. This is the best place to stay in Cahuita, we highly recommend it.

We were 3 friends travelling accross Costa Rica and started with Cahuita. We had a wonderful stay at the Playa Negra Guesthouse (Blue Cottage).
Everything was super clean, and comfortable. The whole property is really beautiful and well maintained.
Pierre and Marise are very friendly, Pierre took us to visit the jaguar rescue center and the national park and learned us where to look to locate monkeys and sloths in the trees, his advices have been helpful during our whole stay across the country :) You won't be disappointed if you stay there. Have a nice trip!

We had an incredible stay at Playa Negra Guesthouse. The property is wonderful, with beautiful landscaping and and a relaxing pool just across the street from the beach. But what made this stay truly special was the staff - Marise and Pierre. Marise was always around to answer our questions and make recommendations. Pierre took us on a hike to show us a local waterfall away from the usual tourist attractions It was a great way to see a part of the area we would not have found on our own. They made us feel like we were staying with friends. We stayed in one of the double rooms - which had a lovely small garden enclosed by a large fence to make for a beautiful view out of the sliding glass doors. It was a perfect size for a couple, but would also have worked well for a couple with a child. I loved that it was close to the town, but a little off the path from where the restaurants and bars were. While we stayed at other places in Costa Rica that were more luxurious, that luxury would have felt out of place in a Cahuita vacation. And the price can't be beat for the what we received.
