Stayed here for 3 nights with my boyfriend. The owner is very nice and hands-off; it felt like we were living in our own little apartment. The hammocks spread around the garden are very inviting. The big open air common space gives the place a nice vibe. We were able to store food in a common fridge and cook our own breakfasts in the kitchen. Unfortunately while we were there the natural pool for which the hotel was named was un-swimmable due to the heavy rains and silt. I was also a bit disappointed that the hotel is not actually on the sandy Playa Negra. It is a few hundred meters away and the coast at this point is coral, so to swim you have to walk a few minutes along the coral and rocks to get to the beach. It wasn't a deal-breaker but I wish I had known this before I went. This place is a few km out of town but worked for us because we had a car and used it to go into town daily. Other good option would be to rent bikes. There are a few things close by- a restaurant and bar, a surf rental place, but most everything else is in town.
