“Excellent lodge”
Reviewed 29 November 2013 via mobile

We stayed 3 nights on Alby Lodge. This is probably one of the best deals in Costa Rica. There are only 4 cabinas but all are build with great care and look really stylish. The rooms are kept spotlessly clean. All are equipped with fan and mosquito net. We only used the fan during the day. At night the temperature drops to relatively comfortable levels and you can do without the fan. Be prepared to be woken up by howler monkeys at the crack of dawn.

The cabins are very conveniently located to the village center and beach but still feel removed and quiet since they are located at the edge of the Cahuita National Park. That translates into "many wild animals and plants on the large spacious premises".
The build quality of the cabins is top notch.
Very airy and clean with all the amenities a nature loving traveller's needs. Ivonne and Thomas are gracious hosts that are very helpful in exploring the area in and around Cahuita.

We had a really great stay at Alby Lodges! We loved to chill out in our Bungalow and watch the monkeys climbing around in the beautiful garden!
The rooms are very nice and clean, the rancho is also a great Palace to stay and to enjoy a cup of coffee!
Thanks to Thomas and Yvonne for the hospitality!

My husband and I recently stayed at Alby Lodge and were overall very comfortable. The location was good - about a five minute walk to the National Park and beach. The howler monkeys will wake you up beginning very early in the morning, but you get used to waking up early (so will the dogs, but I was perfectly happy having the dogs chase away the monkeys).

The cabins are fine - nice shower, a safe, a nice porch. The only complaint I would make is about the bed and totally lumpy pillow, both of which were very uncomfortable.

The man that met us, answered questions, and generally took care of things was very nice. There is a common eating area that has a fridge, coffee makers, tables and chairs that was nice for breakfast in the mornings. They stocked the fridge with sodas and beer that you could purchase, which was convenient. The wireless was very weak.

The town isn't much, but the beach and park were beautiful.

Beautiful, comfortable cabins in a really lovely garden on the edge of "town" - approx 5 mins (if that) to beach / park / town.
Our cabin had a double bed and a single bed - both with mosquito nets. We also had a lovely veranda/ porch with a hammock and chair. There are cooking facilities, fridge etc in a separate "open" cabin where you can sit and have your breakfast/dinner.
Only caution / complaint was that the owner wasn't particularly friendly. No big issue, just unusual for CR.
In terms of location - Cahuita is a quiet little town with a few restaurants/ shops. The beach is not very big but is nice enough. Nearby Puerto Viejo has more life if that is what you are looking for.
Whatever you do DO NOT go to the chocolate plantation $25 for a very poor tour. Not good value at all.
Oh and final warning - the howler monkeys are loud and if nearby will wake you......../first time scare you S**tless!!!

My husband and I are artists and always travel with a lot of camera gear. We were looking to get away from NYC for a few days and wanted a laid back tropical environment to explore the native animals and plants. Alby Lodge was perfect. We had cabin #4 which sits furthest into the center of the garden. I felt it was safe and secure to store our gear while at the beach. The location is close to town and you will not need to drive everywhere. It made a perfect home base. The garden is stunning ! and home to howler and capuchin monkeys and many species of birds which you can view on your porch all day long. Also, Yvonne connected us with a local guide in town which took us snorkeling on a private tour. He showed us a few different areas, got in the water with us and located nurse sharks, lion fish and other hidden aquatic life that I would not have found myself ! I liked that he was also protective of the reefs and expressed the importance of their preservation. A great place for the price.

Room Tip: cabin #4 for more privacy

My Husband and I spent the last 5 days of our Costa Rican Honeymoon in Cahuita. The town itself is not exactly our preference. We were there to explore the park and beaches as well as just hang-out and relax. Thank goodness for Alby Lodge! Yvonne and Thomas were such excellent hosts! Their property is absolutely an Oasis from the rough town. Our cabina was the perfect home to return to everyday, and we were so glad for the well-equiped shared kitchen (the food in Cahuita is not the best). I would recommend Alby Lodge above any other place we saw for it's traquility and friendly atmosphere. It is secure and frequented by much wildlife as it's on the edge of town next to the park. Though we did not go on any excursions we did hear from other guests that the hosts arranged some great outtings, which I would do if we were to return. Amazing garden's and hosts!
