“A gem of a place”

We loved our stay here. The hotel is in a fantastic location - on one side is the national park, and on the other are bars and restaurants. The creek at the hotel has lots of wildlife too. The room was simple but elegant. Our room had views of the sea, and we could watch hummingbirds feeding on the flowers around the veranda - idyllic. The owners were very welcoming and incredibly helpful - they chased around to help us plan a particular trip and organised a very good snorkelling guide for us. We wish we'd stayed for longer!

Kelly Creek is located right beside the national park and right across from the ocean. The rooms are hugeand clean, very nice for the price at 65$ a night for 3 people. We saw almost as much wildlife on the property as we did in the park. Some of the other reviews mentioned concern about when the caiman gets bigger it won't want the chicken the owner feeds it anymore but it is already a full sized caiman and is no threat to people.

Abutting the Cahuita national park, the hotel offers probably best location to peopleless white sand beaches. You can hear waves breaking and monkeys howlering in the morning. You can feed a crocodile living in Kelly creek or talk to the talking parrot living on a nearby tree. Rooms are wooden and clean, no glass windows, no AC, mosquito nets. Overall - great eco-experience. The hotel has just 4 rooms.

This was my third time at Kelly Creek. I didn't have any problem calling to reconfirm my reservation, though I can appreciate that people might be pissed off if they lost their booking. The situation is absolutely perfect - at the entrance to the National Park, with a sloth in one tree and of course Verdi the parrot always waiting to greet you when you open your door. The rooms are big and comfortable, dim lighting has always been a problem if you want to read, but as the hotel is about to change hands I imagine many things will change (hopefully not prices). For breakfast you get an enormous tropical fruit salad followed by eggs, toast etc. and if you want to eat here in the evening the food is very good. I've always found the current owners very interesting and charming (Spanish couple), he's an artist and his paintings are all around the dining room. Just wanted to say something before they disappear as I've always loved staying at Kelly Creek.

RonMelanie, New Management! at Kelly Creek Hotel, responded to this review, 29 April 2010
Hello,

My wife Melanie and I are the new owners of Kelly Creek we would like to reassure all of our previous guests that we fully intend to continue the wonderful service and ambience created by our friends Marie Claude & Andres.

We do not plan to drastically increase the prices at this time so you can be assured you will continue to get value for your money.

As for the menu, we plan to offer a Caribbean theme using all local ingredients prepared in new and exciting ways.

Breakfast will continue to be healthy and fresh, and Melanie is planning to offer a selection of fresh muffins prepared daily.

Our stay at Kelly Creek was wounderful. We had our three year old daughter with us and she still talks about the Green parrot that rules the roost. We also saw the freindly and very large Caymen that sometimes has breakfast next to the hotel along with a trrop of howler monkeys who came to visit one morning. Truely a fantastic experience.

After refusing to stay at Cabinas Jenny, we thankfully found Kelly Creek Hotel, with 4 large clean and very quiet rooms (all wood!) with newer bathrooms, for only US$45. The hotel was steps from restaurants as well as the entrance to the beach and Cahuita National Park. We actually saw a sloth and wild turkeys on the grounds! The owners were nice too. Great place that we'd highly recommend.

There seems to be a pattern with this place..... We called the hotel directly two days before our arrival in Cahuita to make a reservation for two nights. When we got there, the owner said our reservation had been cancelled. The reason we were given was that another person (who was not a part of our group) had made a reservation for the night before and didn't show up. So, they cancelled OUR reservation.

We went across the street to Hotel National Park, which was fine. Basic rooms with hot water and air-conditioning for alot less money.
