Went on a quick escape to the south caribbean to Namuwoki!
They have come highly recommended and it was a beautiful hotel.
Quiet, the rooms spacious and the wood décor is amazing.
Maribel and family are amazing, great service always smiling!
Lots of wildlife.
Totally recommend getting up early for sunrise, birding and after breakfast we even had a sloth pass through the property.
The only thing is that I find it is not for everyone.
There is no TV in the rooms or WIFI and little cell service.
No problem for us but I know people who can’t live without internet.
In the evenings there is very little lighting around the pool and restaurant, I recommend that you bring a flashlight or pocket torch.

Great little lodge in the middle of the jungle! We spent our last several days in Costa Rica here on the Caribbean side and we're glad we did. It was definitely one of the more relaxing parts of our trip, in comparison to the Pacific side of Costa Rica. We were well looked after, the rooms were clean and we loved the balcony for reading in the late afternoons. Just a quick 5 minute walk through the jungle and you're sea side. Lovely!

This review is long overdue! My husband and I were married in Puerto Viejo in March, and us and our group (26 of us) stayed at Namuwoki Lodge. This hotel is absolutely beautiful. It is tucked back off the main road and is a tropical paradise! They have done a very good job about blending the restaurant into the surroundings, rather than overtaking the surroundings. The lodging is setup in individual bungalows, with one large bungalow with several separate rooms. There are other bungalows with a separate bedroom and then a loft bedroom, with a shared bathroom as well. We stayed in the suite, since it was our wedding week after all! It was beautiful, the beds were comfortable, we had a romantic mosquito net over the bed, which I loved! Each bungalow has a nice patio with hammocks, which was fantastic. There is a pool, restaurant, and two "hangout areas".

When we arrived, we were greeted warmly and were taken aback by how beautiful the hotel is. We did have some difficulties throughout our stay with various guests having a tough time with the owners over various things, one dinner we had there was served very slowly, but I do not blame them for this entirely as they were serving a very large group of people. The staff was very kind and helpful as well.

I owe a big thank you to one of the owners (Maribel) for being so sweet to me as I (the bride) fell ill the night after our wedding (UGH!). I had gone to her home on the property to ask if there was a hospital or somewhere I could go for medication, if I was not able to handle being so sick throughout the night. Fortunately I didn't have to, but she was so nice and sweet to me offering various things to help. I really appreciated it.

The care that Maribel and her team put into decorate the hotel for our reception, as well as the work which was put into our wedding at the beach (Maribel worked with Nina at Gecko Trail Adventures to order and setup the ceremony site) was incredibly appreciated. Our wedding was everything we hoped it would be and Maribel played a big part in that. She is a very kind and caring woman, and takes pride in her hotel and her work. Thank you, Maribel!

One other thing to note about the hotel is that it is a ways out of town, and the main road is rather sketchy to ride bikes on, particularly at night. I would recommend renting a car. Taxis are very easy to come by, but it is just the hassle of always being sure to call to arrange the transport every time you want to go somewhere rather than being autonomous.

Its incredible because you are in the middle of the rain forest, surrounded by wildlife in a luxury bungalow! The beach is near by and cant be more beautiful. The pool is perfect for that afternoon swim! The food is incredible and the people are really warm!

One of our best friends recommended this hotel to us because they accepted kids, had a decent pool and a good breakfast service. The first morning that we were having breakfast, our 3 year old son felt from his chair and hit his head with the table. Obviously he started crying and 2 groups of guests started looking at us as if they've never seen a kid crying and then began murmuring about why the Hotel Administration allowed us to stay there. That same day, at night, we decided to stay at the Hotel and have dinner at their restaurant. Our 3 kids (8, 6 and the 3 year old) became anxious as their food was taking too much time to be served and again the same groups of guests were staring at us. Our surprise this time was that one of ladies from the Hotel Staff talked out loud and said literally "I don't know why we have to tolerate this f....kids". Finally, on our last night and while my wife was taking and a shower and I was dressing up, a lady approached our kids, who where playing at the porch with hammocks, and told them to stay quite because a client was complaining about their lousy noises and screaming. We didn't ask for the Hotel's owner that night but we did the very next morning while we're checking out to figure out why they allowed us to stay their if their policy for guests is to stay quite, enjoy the nature and behave as if you're attending a funeral service. Obviously the owner didn't show up and we're still expecting to hear from him. So, if you have family and plans for a vacation at Puerto Viejo, FORGET ABOUT THIS PLACE!

What can I say about the Namuwoki?...This place is ideal for discovering the south caribbean of Costa Rica. Let´s say it is close to 2 reserves, the Gandoca Manzanillo Reserve and the Cahuita National Park. Along with that it is also very close to the major indian city of Bri Bri. We can also add the chocolate tours around Cahuita and last but not least close but not close enough to Puerto Viejo where you can stop by and have some mojitos. The Namuwoki is by far one of the best hotels in the area. Why you may ask? Because of its orientation towards nature.
Just imagine it is 4:00 in the morning and all of a sudden you hear this enourmous howl. You may think it is coming from a dog but in reality it is coming from your neighbour the howler monkey. They start there day quite early there. Another attraction is the amounts of animals in the area. From Sloths to monkeys going by spiders and frogs. It is a nice comunity of things.
As for the hotel well it is very very nice. Friendly atmosphere with down to earth people and a very rustic appearence. But let not the apperance fool you. This hotel is rated as a 4 star hotel where the owners, he is from Spain originaly and her wife a costarrican. Both are devoted to making sure that your stay with them is a memorable one. The hotel does not have room over room over room. These are bungalows, one seperate from the other, and they are up scale but not pricy. Each one has a very confortable bathroom with running hot and cold water, a very nice bed (tending to be a bit oriental since it is on the floor) I think it is a queen size with a nice thing that goes around the bed so those insects do not bother your sleep but I also thnk it is better not to have it on since it cuts down on the potential of the ceiling fan to keep you cool. As for the outside a nice porch with a confortable hammock for 2 and some chairs also. As for T.v? who needs T.v there? Your in the middle of the jungle in a way of speaking. It also has a nice pool where from time to time you can see some frogs and other things above on the canopy. The hotel is all very very good but where it lacks is in the food department. Not so good a breakfast and as for lunch and dinner better have some in Puerto Viejo or in Manzanillo. Hope you enjoy it....

Room Tip: The very close to the reception rooms are excelent

As Costa Rican people, we go regularly to Puerto Viejo, so we've stayed in quite a lot of hotels. We can say this is one of the bests hotels in the area. Great design, rustic but yet comfortable, clean, and really nice. It goes well with the surrounding nature. You feel sleeping in the rainforest, but still with the comfort of a nice room.

There's a nice pool, something not easy to find in Puerto Viejo. The staff is really friendly and helpful. Overall, we had a great time, hope to come back in the near future.
