La Perla del Caribe
Reviewed 26 May 2014

La Perla de Caribe offers several Villas for Rent, lovely furnished and kitchen provided, into secluted jungle setting. Puerto Viejo - easy going laid back place - & La Perla - what a bless! - was definetly the accomodation we liked best in Costa Rica.
Our house was beautiful, and lived up to all our expectations. We felt home inmediatly.
Beaches and surroundings were stunning. We could hear the ocean waves and hawler monkeys at night.
Paradise found!!!! We'll be back.

Our hosts Nadia and Antonio were outstanding. They were warm accommodating in all regards and treated us like family. The very charming and well appointed bungalows were all built by Antonio who is a master craftsman. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped for all our needs. The location is in a jungle like setting, but only a short walk to the beach. It is also walking distance to town, but just far enough outside not to feel like you are crowded by other resorts.
There is also plenty of wildlife to view, both around the resort and close by at nature reserves. Sloths, monkeys and a great variety of birds are in the immediate area.
Just to show how thoughtful our hosts were, we inadvertently left a wallet in the cottage safe; Antonio found it and raced across town to catch our shuttle before we left Puerto Viejo. It saved us a great deal of trouble. I don't know many hotel owners that would do that for their clients.
We could not ask for a better place to stay, nor more friendly and accommodating hosts. We would love to return to this wonderful place.

We stayed in the master villa for two weeks. There was easily enough room for another couple.
On arrival we was given a very warm welcombe by Antonio as Nadia was away for the day.
We really enjoyed our time there. The patio was massive with huge table, big enough to seat 8,
Sofa and two chairs. It was fantastic spending time there just sitting quietly and watching the wildlife. The pool was very refreshing after walking back from the beach, which was only a 5 min walk.Be aware the sea of Cockles beach has very strong currents and is not really for swimming.
There are plenty of other beaches that are though.
I did quite a bit of cooking in the well equipt kitchen, this saved on restaurant bills which we found quite expensive for a so called 3rd world country. The supermarkets had everything you wanted to make really nice meals, although their prices were quite high too. There is also a very good farmers market in town on a Sat.Get there early though.
The bed was very comfy,we only used the one downstairs as we couldn't be bothered climbing the spiral staircase up to the other one, the decoration was clean and beautiful with new linens and luvely soft pillows, which for me is very important.
Just sitting on our patio we saw lots of wildlife but you really have to look as everything is unbelievably camouflaged. We saw Toucans, Monkeys, Sloths, Racoons, Humming birds, Butterflies, numerous frogs and lizards and the occasional big very friendly crickets. We named one Colin as he made his home in the conch shell that was decorating the table.
What really made our stay memorable was our hosts Nadia and Antonio. You couldn't wish to meet two nicer people. We got to know them quite well and would like to think that we have become friends.I hope so because they haven't seen the last of us! We'll be back.
Love Wendy x

We adored this place! Really beautiful! Wi-fi connection in the room and all over the property, great location 15 minutes walk from the main city - 1 minute away from the beach, quiet at night - ocean waves and hawler monkeys a part! The atmosphere is excellent! Nadia is very helpful with suggestions, giving opinions on places to go, arranging the tours.
You've found your perfect place.

La Perla del Carbe was a great choice for me and family. My boyfriend and I wanted a nice king size bed and a separate room from my kids, which is hard to find in that area. Also, the screens on the windows, the hot water and the quality of the house were all wonderful in an area where you don't see much luxury. But those all pale in comparison to the wonderful service Nadia and Alexandra provided. Nadia was so helpful to me during the booking phase with all my questions, and organized my car rental for me to be waiting at the house! And although she was out of town when we were there, Alexandra was super attentive- even brought pedialite for my daughter when she got sick! Costa Rica was a bit of a rough trip for us, traveling to a 3rd world country with kids, but La Perla del Caribe made a safe haven for us. Thanks Nadia!

This romantic Villa offered us a great comfort and privacy, and the best jungle and wildlife view we had in Costa Rica. We felt very happy to share our stato with monkeys, tucans, oropaendulas, sloths, geckoes, blue butterflies...And we enjoyed the private pool and the tropical garden with any sort of bromelias and orquideas soooo much!!! Both bedrooms were very beautiful with comfortable extra large veda, AC and a private bathroom. "La Perla" was the best part of our trip to CR. A true Gem. Thanks so much Nadia and Antonio for creating an incredible place! We'll be back.

Great secluted wildlife viewing location, quiter than in town but very closed to. Affordable in bicicle, not car needed. We felt very secure in our beautiful house and all around the area. The roads all over Puerto Viejo are dark, so you'll need a flash light. Wi-fi worked very well, except a couple of days, but that was the same all over Puerto Viejo, offering weak signal at Christmas time.
We saw sloths, monkeys, butterflies, spieders and frogs right at the house. The beach is in two minuts walking, and is a surfing spot. A visit to Cahuita National park is very recommended, such as the BriBri waterfall and Manzanillo refuge. From this place you can reach Bocas del Toro by Shuttle easily. At the reception, they'll help you in every step of the organization of your stay.
We just loved to stay here, it is a very special accommodation, well catered, gorgeous, and you'll leave with a new feeling of peace and happiness inside.
