I arrived a few days later my friends, the rooms are simple. There is a social area in the front, but at night the light was off, with so many bugs it was impossible to stay there. The kitchen has many utensils. Worst of all was the rude receptionist and told us one price and charged another. I do not advise you to stay there.

Hello Traveller! Thank you for taking the time to review, it's unfortunate that your experience was not up to your standards. The jungle certainly does have lots of mosquitos, you're right! That's why we provide fans and mosquito nets. Unfortunately, bug repellent is the responsibility of the guest, although there is usually some extra bottle lying around, it's unfortunate that mosquitos in the Caribbean jungle were a surprise for you.

Also, the "social area" in the front that you are referring to is a separate business, CariBeans, which closes at 6p.m. hence all the lights being off. The social area of OM is on the upstairs deck where there is always a light on after 5:30p.m. The cafe is very generous in allowing the hostel guests to use it as a lounge type area during their business hours. Pretty nice of them! But by 6p.m. they are closed.

Also, receptionists absolutely do not have permission to change prices. The good news is we have both all of our pricing guides and our reimbursement policies posted very clearly in various locations around the hostel so that guest should be well aware of their nightly fee before check-out. We believe in full transparency which is why we keep our prices publicly posted. If you believe you were wrongly charged please send us an email and a reservation confirmation (received when you made your initial reservation) and I will happily refund you any excess that you paid. Pura vida!

We booked this accommodation online via email, and received confirmation however the attachment was another guests details. We called to have this corrected, and again we received confirmation with another guests details. It got sorted on the third attempt. Everyone makes mistakes. When we arrived our room looked good, it was close to the beach, and a short taxi ride into town. We were shown the kitchen and it was filthy. The staff said they were all her dishes from throughout the day, but then told us we have to clean up after ourselves during our stay! The linen was dirty and there were a lot of mosquitos in our private room which meant we did not have good nights sleep. We asked to call a taxi to go into town one night and was asked if we could do it ourselves as the staff member did not speak spanish. In the end she called for us. When we checked out there was no staff around at 8:50am to check us out. Fortunately about 5 minutes later, a lady arrived on a bike. I did take a yoga class one morning and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is in a beautiful location with gorgeous sea views.

Hello there and thank you for taking the time to review us and share your experience! Feedback from clients helps us grow and improve in order to offer an always improving service.

As the owner at OM I would like to personally apologize to you for your experience. The less savoury parts of your stay are certainly not the normal guidelines here at OM and unfortunately do not meet our standards of comfort and professionalism. Late arrival by employees (reception is open from 7:30a.m. daily) is not something that we allow or encourage.

Regarding the reservation form, I spoke directly with you on the phone via the cellular as my work with yoga takes me to different locations around Costa Rica. The volunteer who sent the form out incorrectly had only been working with us for one week. We hope you will be forgiving of her due to her freshness in the position. I did immediately call to the main office to walk her through the process and send out the correct form.

As far as the cleanliness goes, we are one of the only hostels in the South Caribbean that offers a 6 days a week cleaning service. Cleaning service personel does not enter rooms unless you have the door card set to the side that says "Maid Service." If it is found to be on the red side, "Do Not Disturb," the room will not be cleaned. Common and shared spaces are cleaned every day except Sunday. We apologize for any break down in communication regarding this policy.

Our main offering is that of a community yoga studio so we are bummed to hear you were only able to take one drop-in class. Generally the guests of the hostel choose to stay here precisely because of the direct access to our daily classes. We see that you enjoyed your yoga class at least, so for that, we are grateful!

Thank you again for taking the time to send us your feedback. We wish you safe and happy onward travels.

I took a beginners yoga class that was awesome and then went downstairs for some great chocolate. Lots of free samples. Wonderful sipping chocolate as well. Closed on Sundays, but yoga is open.

We had a fantastic time at Om! We stayed at the hostel and did yoga on the upper deck looking out toward the ocean. The owner, Kristen, is super involved in every aspect of your stay which is something we loved. She is so nice and a fantastic yoga teacher who has built this studio from the ground up. We really admired how community driven the studio is from the weekly farmers market gatherings to the organic chocolate store downstairs and even open community yoga by donation. It's obvious how passionate she is about her practice, her guests, and Puerto Viejo! Kristen even invited us to her birthday potluck after just being there for a day!

The studio is located about 15 mins bike ride from town in Playa del Cocles but the hostel provides a couple of bikes for free. It's also within walking distance from a great, white-sand surfing beach. Highly recommend Om for anyone looking for a welcoming and friendly community atmosphere!

The yoga here is wonderful- but we were supposed that the owner was not at all flexible in travelers buying a pass to split. My husband and I stayed in punta Uva and during the honeymoon did not know how many classes we would be able to travel to with other activities we wanted to do. We wanted to buy a 5 class pass and split it, but were refused. Even at my yoga studio in Charlotte they let us do this and you'd think with all the tourists and other things people want to do in Costa Rica, that they would be more "go with the flow"- it is a yoga studio, after all!

Dear Sir or Madam; We apologize if our policy made you uncomfortable. It is not personal and is a standard practice at most yoga studios to sell packages for personal use only. Seems like your home studio probably makes an exception for you and your husband! That's great! One of the bonuses of practicing within your local yoga community. Our class package policies are clearly posted with all of our class prices on both the bulletin board by the entrace to the studio as well as upstairs in the studio. Being flexible is not the same as lacking boundaries and unfortunately in running a business we have to constantly dance the line between flexibility, compassion and also boundaries. Indeed, this is the first time in 6 years we have heard this complaint, or that anyone was surprised with the standard policy. We honor your feedback and although we will not be changing the class package policy, we do sincerely apologize that you were put off by it or if you found our drop-in rate of $10/class inaccessible during your honeymoon. The good news is; it seems you received a high quality practice. For a difference of $1 per class, I hope it was worth it to receive a wonderful yoga class. We appreciate your patronage and your feedback!
