“Over-Rated, Mosquito ridden. Needs to be better maintained.”
Reviewed 9 April 2014

Stayed here in March after reading all the positive reviews on here. We were very disappointed. Our cabin was a tiny shack with gaping holes letting in the hundreds of mosquitoes which plague the place. The bed had a mosquito net with holes in it that was too small, so you couldn't help having your legs and arms touch the sides (and I therefore got bitten through the net!) the owner was friendly but didn't really convey a good impression as he just sat around all day smoking weed with his friends. The smell was so strong it would waft into our cabin at night. This place needs some serious upkeep, that or lower the prices!

Room Tip: Don't take the private double on the ground floor!

We enjoyed our stay here. The room was a good size, and the patio was amazing with all of the hammocks. It is on a great piece of property, and the staff member, Gift, was very nice. The location was also great--easy to get to town and the beach. The price was very reasonable. There was drinking water available, and the kitchen was well stocked, except I wished they had an electric tea kettle. Unfortunately, the shower's hot water wasn't working the first night, but it's so warm in the region that it didn't really matter. My other complaint was I wish they had more bikes to rent.

We have been traveling for a few weeks now;this is the best one so far! Such a comfortable atmosphere, staff are so helpful and friendly! Two sloths hang out in the back yard!! One that we nicknamed buster (the grey one) even came out of the tree for a visit! While the white sloth (now nicknamed booboo!) just hung out and watched us as we relaxed in the hammock! Beautiful place! Highly recommend you drop by and hang out with the staff, booboo, and buster :)

I'm having trouble finding words to describe the magnificent beauty of Vista Verde. We stayed in the master bedroom which had plenty of space as well as the spacious room next to the big room.
The rooms were clean and tidy and the bathrooms were always nice and clean.
The lady who checked us in and ran the day shift was an absolute treasure. It was just so perfect when she said her name was Gift! She had loads of advice on stuff to do as well as providing us with cocos to drink.
The garden at Vista Verde is like the Secret Garden. We were able to watch sloths, birds, lizards and all sorts of butterflies from the main area as we drank our coffee. We talked to so many people who hadn't even seen a sloth in CR and they have 2 that have taken up residence in the garden.
The beds were comfy and mosquito nets were provided (thank goodness).
I would recommend this place to anyone from young travellers to my grandparents. What a beautiful guesthouse and beautiful people who run it.

We booked to stay here based on the great reviews. However, we never actually spent the night after being shown to what only can be described as a shoebox! A double bed touching 3 out of the 4 wallls meant that if we both wanted to be in the room at the same time then our bags had to be outside! The 'private bathroom' was separated from the shoebox by no less than a shower curtain. There was a fan, however it couldn't reach either of the plug sockets! The lady who showed us the room described it as cosy, that was an understatement!
The other rooms looked great, however they were fully booked! Just be warned if you book a private double. There's barely space for one person let alone two!

We had an awesome time staying at Vista Verde. It is basically in downtown Puerto Viejo but since it is set back from the main street you get a nice break from the loud hustle and bustle that sometimes can go on late into the night. The property was very lush and beautiful with tropical plants growing everywhere. The staff was very welcoming and were there to help answer any questions we had. The room was nice and suited us very well although we didn't spend too much time in the room itself, we mainly just hung out in the hammocks that are strung up all around and relaxed. Overall a great place to stay.

Had a lovely relaxing time staying at this place over New Year - it was a quiet haven away from the NY festivities! Good kitchen facilities and outdoor sheltered common area with hammocks. Our room was very comfortable and private. The atmosphere with staff and guests was very relaxed. Recommend it.
