If you're looking for a traditional Costa Rican cuisine, that's the place for you. Delicious local food, friendly staff, great value for money. Convenient location on the main street.

“great”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 May 2013

This a great restaurant right on the main street, easy to find. We have been several times, and will go again. Good rice and beans and patacones. Typical food for the area and the prices are good.

“Traditional cuisine with lots of bangs”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 March 2013

They offer no frills, traditional costarican cuisine. Maybe not surprising but tasty, just as it should be. The place seemed to be fairly popular, lots of people coming and going.

But there were surprises. It was most annoying that there were people in the street next to the restaurant, throwing fire crackers to the alley next to our table. They came off with a big bang, every time scaring us and making us jump on our seats because you never knew when they would come off.

“Good time, but so-so service and food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 November 2012

Let me preface this review with saying I LOVE COSTA RICA, and Puerto Viejo was a really interesting, beautiful and festive location. However, Restaurant Tamara was just ok. The location and scenery were fine - we sat on the covered patio adjacent to the road, but the restaurant in general seemed disinterested. The service was practically nonexistent (bad even in comparison to "Tico Time"), and the food was utterly underwhelming. We were hoping for some bold coastal flavors, but our blackened tilapia and lobster dishes were unfortunately somewhat bland. The pina coladas we had were quite tasty, but that may have been the highlight of our stay.
