“Great service and super food”
Reviewed 25 August 2013 via mobile

A awesome birthday for me and my friends was spent here. The service was top notch and the food awesome !! A must stop ace on the Caribe of Costa Rica and very safe !!!!!!!!!! So close to the surf I could here the ocean at night. Missed the live music by one night.I am sure that is a added plus to the ambiance. How ever the sound of toucans and tree frogs was a added nature touch. The staff were very clean and polite. Coffee was on at 6 a.m. Was great for me up coffee and gone surfing by 6.30 a.m. So close could walk to surf !!!

This was our second stop in Costa Rica. The beach here is fabulous and beautiful with huge waves! The hotel provides bicycles for rent so that you can take yourself to town or to any of the many beaches. We went on excursions hiking, snorkeling, the chocolate lady demonstration, the jaguar rescue center, and they were all amazing! The staff were so friendly and nice, there was one time our ride forgot to pick us up and the lady at the front desk called them for us without even asking and they were there to get us ten minutes later! The room was gorgeous and very clean, the water was warm (not really hot), they provided a fan which was much needed at night for my hubby, and the mosquito nets lend a romantic feel to the beds which I liked. We woke up hearing howler monkeys in the morning which was so cool. The food and drinks were delicious as well, especially our welcome drinks! They put some nice flowers on our bed and a free bottle of wine for our honeymoon, which was a nice touch that was much appreciated!

The only negatives were that our hammock was so huge and stretched out that it was really odd to use it and impossible to get out of and also that the spa is rather hit-or-miss. I wanted a pedicure after a long day of hiking and was told the "foot" lady was gone and ended up not answering her phone all day long! I returned hours later to check to see if she'd turned up (she hadn't) and decided to book a chocolate facial instead. They told me to wait 15 min, which I did, and then after that I was told the woman who does the facials had to go somewhere to pick someone up in town and it would be an additional 30 minutes. Eventually I did get the facial (but still didn't get the pedicure) and the lady was very professional and nice to me.

I'd definitely stay here again! It was wonderful and relaxing!

Room Tip: The deluxe casita was great!

We went June 12-17 2013. The bungalows were charming and the little town of Puerto Viejo was great. Our vacation coincided with the "rainy" season. It was a little overcast and rained everyday but that's to be expected in the tropics. We had sunshine all but 1 day, just not all day sun. It also meant that we had NO hot water because the hot water comes from the cistern on top of your bungalow, so no sun, no hot water. Expect for all your clothing to feel damp when you leave but again, you're in the tropics. Definitely need to bring some flashlights, the bungalow we were in had insufficient lighting and the path to the bungalow is very dark at night. If you arrive after 9pm you have to find your own meal, the restaurant close PROMPTLY at 9pm. We ate at Elena Brown's that night and it was delicious. We didn't have any bad meals while we were there.

I would recommend this hotel if you want rustic and charming. We are planning to go back next year.

1. We are so happy that these guests enjoyed their stay with us but somehow they thought that the hot water was solar heated and overcast weather meant no hot water? The bungalow has a hot water heater and, had we known, we could have reset the breaker switch and created steamy shower conditions. Sorry about that, folks.
2. The restaurant will take orders until 9:30 p.m. so I can`t explain why our guests felt it was closed at 9 pm? If you are on central USA time and don`t adjust the hour when you see 9 pm on your watch it will be 10 pm here?
We promise you long, hot showers and late dinners when you return next year!!

Great secluded bungalow for our Honeymoon! We really enjoyed how close the beach was and the town wasn't too far walking distance. There was a trail that goes behind the road from the beach that leads to the town. They also had bikes to rent. The food was amazing and you can wake up to howler monkeys. We felt very safe at Costa de Papito.

We stayed 3 nights and could stay longer, it was a Good experience. Breakfast very Good. Beds a bit small for two. Puerto viejo is lovely, this really looks one of the best places to stay! Price somewhat steep but try the last minute deal.

After spending four days at La Costa de Papito we return home refreshed and relaxed. Due to a jungle setting, even though there are 14 or 15 bungalows, each one is secluded and quiet. Everything is open air (virtually no bugs or temperature highs or lows) including the restaurant, lobby and cocktail area. Our cabin offered two beds, a rain shower bathroom and an open porch with a table for dining, chairs and a hammock. We found ourselves spending much of the time on the porch listening to various birds, counting butterflies and taking pictures of the impressive vegetation around the facility. The beach and ocean, just across the rural road, was perfect for watching swimmers (the undertow is strong and wading is better for enjoying the salt water) and surfers. Surfing lessons were easy to procure. Town is a short distance away (great expresso bar there for those in need) and offered beach type shopping, bars and a few local restaurants. Excellent hiking available just north of Puerto Viejo! We had a wonderful trip and thank those at La Costa de Pepito for making it everything they promised!

This place was very interesting. It was recommended by our friend from Panama and we were not disappointed. The accommodations were interesting, but we found ourselves tired of it after a little while. It seemed liked glorified camping after a few days and having to take cabs to many places got expensive. But you are relatively close to the beach, less than five minute walk and you are right in among the trees and animals. Make sure to keep the bug net closed and sleep with it over your bed. The staff was friendly and helpful too.
