“Beautiful Place, Amazing Property”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

We have been to Costa De Papito many times and every visit has been wonderful. The property is beautiful and the staff and ownership is always around to help with every need. The cabinas are perfectly appointed and very comfortable, almost luxury but still with the very local feel. The close proximity to the never crowded perfect beach makes me dream of the next visit. The restaurant they added a few years ago is the best around, we especially love ordering breakfast to our cabina and eating on our patio.

Room Tip: They have newer cabinas, be we always loved cabina #4

La Costa de Papito is what Costa Rica is all about. Near a surf town just a 10 min bike ride up the road, it's nestled among it's own slice of jungle set across from Playa Cocles. Authenticity, great service, character, quality and laid back fun is all I've ever had the 3 times I stayed here (twice in 2010). This last time was in February for about two weeks, including a three-day wedding celebration.

If you're considering a beach wedding, email Kitty and Eddie and they'll handle everything. The 3-min video of our wedding speaks for itself. It was a dream and totally laid-back for us planning-wise and in the execution, thanks to Kitty and Eddie and their team, who took care of everything.

Our guests really enjoyed themselves. There was something for everyone of all ages and health, so ideal for a gathering of family and friends who need to spend some time together.

We had the rehearsal dinner at the restaurant, as well as the reception. LCdP set up the wedding in a coconut grove, so that the wedding party could surprise the guests with a special entrance (that we made up essentially the morning of the wedding). It was phenomenal. See the video of photos, taken by the incredible photographer Kitty arranged for us.

Just a word on accommodations, shuttles, food: The bungalows are still all great. We rented all but 2 of them for our party of 25 (4 guests booked late and stayed nearby). Handmade of beautiful local dark salt caramel hardwood and stuccoed bathrooms, each bungalow is different. Kitty thoughtfully arranged all shuttles for guests coming in from Europe and the States (Belgium, Washington DC, New York, Arizona, LA and Detroit). Kitty's selection of bungalows for our parents, elders and friends were dead on. The elders didn't love the 4.5 hr ride from San Jose, until they got there We ate frequently at the restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner - all excellent. Truthfully, my mom says she prefers the pristine, manicured beach of Kihei, Maui in Hawaii. That's okay. It was our wedding and we wanted something authentic, a bit wild, somewhere non-contrived where we could ride in on horses wearing leis, with our best friends holding local flowers, taking video on their Google Glass, while others blew conch horns. This place and wedding was freedom. It couldn't have been any better, and we are grateful for the La Costa de Papito family -- our Costa Rica family -- for making our vision come to life so perfectly. THANK YOU EDDIE, KITTY and everyone. We <3 you.

My family (wife and daughters 12 and 15) and I spent a great week at La Costa de Papito. The property was very nice and tucked away in the jungle just like the pictures on the web-site. We are active and there were a number of things to do in the area and are easy to set up right at the hotel. Minerva was especially terrific. Chocolate tours, zip lines, turtle watching, great beaches and more. This area of CR is in a rain forest, is humid and the inn has only ceiling fans. If you are looking for a big chain type hotel, this part of the world is not for you. If you want a great adventure filled experience and you want to feel like you are at a special place and at "the end of the road" then this is for you.
We would stay at La Costa de Papito again.

We had a great time. The customer service was great. I was sick with an ear infection and my husband was sick with the travelers flue. They were great helping us out by providing medicine and random requests to fix my ear.

Everyone was very nice. They provided good places to see throughout Puerto Viejo. Overall, nice place to stay.

Cons: I found a dreadlock under my bed which was really gross. Wish the maid would have caught that before I found it.

According to the maid, the young woman who occupied the bungalow previously had false Caribbean hairbraid extensions installed for her stay here at the beach. The night before checkout she took them all out and the maid said they were all over the bungalow the next morning. In cleaning the bungalow, she apparently missed one under the bed. Apologies for the one that was left behind!

There is too much to say about this great place in just a few words...
EVERYthing you need is on this property & the beach just across the road out front. There is easy access to a grand 'route' of awesome Caribbean beaches! Bungalows are lovely & super clean!! Everything is easy access, but they have managed to keep the private feel & jungle surroundings.
Restaurant is so nice & yummy as well! The prices are very fair & everyone can speak English well enough to have NO communication issues!
Salon/Spa on property is terrific! The owner Auxi is amazing & so personable. She doesn't leave the work to others; she is very involved with all the going-ons. I have been a customer here many times & I've seen her accommodate persons on the spot with whatever service they request. Always with graciousness & as she says "con mucho gusto"! (With much pleasure) and she means it!!!
The salon attendant, Katia hand cuts flowers from the property & beautifully decorates the place!! Fresh flowers are everywhere!!!
*Remember if you visit the area: you will be in one of the most gracious, polite & kind areas of the country, so please treat the people in kind.* use patience & consideration & they will go out of their way to assist you! This is not the land of 'rush'! It is the land of PURA VIDA! Enjoy!!

Room Tip: You can always call/email the staff & explain what you're looking for in your stay. They wil...

The room was comfortable but with a funny style: leopard sheets and rocky areas. Nevertheless it was a cool and fun experience, it's surrounded by a nice garden and the restaurant was very good. Location wise it's perfect: 3 minutes drive to the beach ,10 minutes to town, 15 minutes to punta Uva. The owners were very friendly.

I stayed at La Costa de Papito in early April and LOVED it! Every morning, the staff put out an enormous spread for breakfast. There's the freshest papaya, pineapple, coconut cake, all sorts of cereals, great local coffee and eggs made to your liking. Pancakes and french toast round out the choices during the week. The dining room is so comfortable with custom-made local wood tables and chairs, lots of room, great music....I found myself reading and relaxing every morning..a great way to start the day!

They offer so many perks for the beach...chairs, umbrellas and towels at no extra cost. I didn't take a bicycle but many travelers did, as it seems to be the best way to get around.

I loved my room and joked that I could actually live in it. Coming from NYC, I wasn't kidding! Aside from the spacious room with a Queen and 2 single beds, the outside porch with a hammock and picnic table allowed for guests and the bathroom was open air and had delightful tiles and color scheme.

The place is a jungle paradise and just what I needed to face the concrete jungle again!

Room Tip: I walked around the property and the Cabinas were all different and very artistic. Traveling solo I...
