“Pure Jungle Spa-- A Magical & Fabulous Treat”

I work in the spa industry in the United States and was floored by this enchanting little spa. WOW! Pure is a great description for the delicious, edible ingredients. The atmosphere is like no other. A must if you're visiting the area. I will definitely return :)

Wow, we had a great time there. Coming from Germany we took La Costa de Papito as a "Base Camp" for a few excursions in the area. It has been a recommendation from a friend and we were overwhelmed by the beauty of this spot. Very nice people, great services, beautiful bungalows. We only could stay a couple of days as we also visited the Pacific side but I am looking forward to be there again. Next time I'll go there will be more for relaxing and less for jungle trips - altough that was a great experience too. It's a wounderful place to find back to balance and to relax.

We loved La Costa de Papito -- the bungalows are an absolutely perfect blend of funky and comfy, perfectly planned with great storage and a wonderful covered porch with easy chairs, a table and benches, and a hammock. Go to sleep under the mosquito netting to the sound of frogs; wake to the growls of howler monkeys and more birds than you can imagine. Spend the extra dollars to have a terrific gourmet breakfast brought to your bungalow (try all the juices!), but be warned that these breakfasts are huge -- one may be enough for two.

We liked the location and didn't mind the walk to and from town (all the bikes were rented). Playa Cocles is lovely but has riptides, so pay attention to the flags and what the lifeguard says. There's a much calmer beach, good for snorkeling, up the road at Manzanillo. We hiked the Gandoca-Manzanillo reserve through the agency Terraventura (in Puerto Viejo, but the hotel can set up a tour with them for you) with a truly wonderful guide, Ricky, and saw quite a few animals and birds as well as learning a lot about the plants. If you have a car and will be at La Costa de Papito on a Sunday night from March-May, you may be able to convince the charming Minerva, who works in the Costa de Papito restaurant, to take you on a turtle watching tour in Gandoca. It's a long ride over a rough road but totally worth it. We weren't able to see a leatherback but still really enjoyed being on the beach where they nest and seeing their fresh tracks. Minerva is a fantastic guide and an extremely friendly person. Thanks, Minerva!

Didn't try the spa, but the food was good in the restaurant and the drinks good at the bar. We had a great time at this hotel and would return again.

The bungalows are stunning, very spacious, clean and in a beautiful setting. There was only 2 of us but the the cabin slept 5 happily.

The local beach, Playa Cocles, just across the road is is very nice but the current can be strong in places so watch for where the flags are and you'll be fine.

It is a fair walk into to town so arrange a cab or be prepared for a 25-30 minute walk.

I did not stay at La Costa De Papito, but I did visit the Pure Jungle Spa. I got the Tropical Bliss Facial and the Ultimate Total Body Chocolate Decadence. It was by far one of the best Spa treatments that I have ever recieved. The ambience was beatifully rustic, and they used all natural ingredients which left my skin amazingly smooth. They also gave me a 10% discount, upon request. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a relaxing spa experience in the wilderness.

Gorgeous bungalow. Breakfast on the private veranda every morning. Shaded hammock big enough for two. Natural stone shower. Delicious restaurant (pineapple and ginger lobster I'll remember forever). Very friendly staff. Free internet access. Across the street from Playa Cocles- lounge on the sand, dip your fit, or watch the surfers. The onsite spa gave us the most luxurious massages ever. What's not to love? Not right in the center of town, but that's fine. Short bike ride, or 2,000 colones taxi ride ($3.45 USD), which is the way to go after muchas cervezas.

Always a surprise awaits me at La Costa de Papito. My first visit was in 1995 and every visit has been a pleasure. Not back since 2001 I received a welcomed shock. They now host a soaring thatched restaurant/bar/reception area that's creatively decorated with local flora, Costa Rican paintings, driftwood statues (including a lifesized cow), monkey carvings, tiki gods, tables fashioned from local tree trunk slices and boards, and some of the best food I had in Costa Rica. Good food, great service and unique presentations. Beef dish served in a hollowed out pineapple, local Caribbean lobster, coffee based salad dressing and coconut bread rolls. Rooms are funky, Caribbean, airy with great bathrooms and ample hot water. A plus.
Breakfasts served in the room with tropical fruits, Caribbean pancakes, eggs, rice and beans in a coconut base and hearty CR coffee.
