“one time jungle experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2014

nice hidden lodge with direct access to the turtle beach, don't expect to see turtles unless you are travelling in october/november, the beach is no real bathing beach,
but nice to have both the jungle and the beach just in one place. you have to know that staying an a place like this means contact with animals/insects etc., it is a part of the experience, you get to see monkeys, birds, chameleons, lizards, frogs, bats and many ants. The boat as well as the jungle walking tour are a must do and included in the packages, even if you stay just 1 night. The food is ok and all meals are included. You even get breakfast on the way to and lunch on the way back, the shuttle is included and drops you off even as far as at the airport!
If you want the best tour, look/ask for FERNANDO, best guide ever!!

Room Tip: All rooms are almost the same, No Glass-Windows!!! only mosquito nets as windows, keep in mind you h...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The staff was wonderfully accommodating and very attentive. There is very quick access to the beach and the grounds are very beautiful and relaxing. We recommend trying the different tour options. Also, if you stay an extra night, they give you access to use of kayaks. Even if you decide to rent them, I highly recommend doing so. This is the best way to explore the area in its natural environment and allowed us maximal viewing of all of the different wildlife.

Our family of 4 which includes 2 teenage girls had a wonderful experience at Turtle Beach. We booked directly with the lodge prior to arriving in CR. While I personally wasn't sure how this part of our trip would be, our concerns were put to rest almost immediately after we were picked up at our hotel the first morning. We were the first on the bus and Warner our guide immediately made us feel welcome and that we were very much important as guests in CR and of Turtle Beach.
Warner was an excellent guide and provided us with so much information and background about the country and areas we travelled through en route to the coast. He was so passionate about making sure we saw and experienced as much of our surroundings as possible.
We arrived at Turtle Beach and really enjoyed the fact that it was "away" from it all. We had a chance to unwind and enjoy some time by the pool as well as take in an extra walk around the property. Warner did his best to locate and show us as much of the local wildlife / plants / birds as he could. We also added the "Night Tour" in on our second day and were happy we did. We went out after dark on the boat and got to see even more birds, snakes, caymans etc.
Our family can not say enough about our time spent on our trip to and stay at Turtle Beach. We think that it is a definite "must" on a trip to CR. We would definitely recommend staying at the lodge for 2 nights as it is a long trip to make for just one.

Room Tip: Our family of 4 had a room that would sleep 5. It was one of the outside rooms in the fourplexes.

My husband and I spent two nights here, it was a great experience. The hotel is not fancy but it is clean and comfortable. There are no windows in the rooms, only screens, but the breeze kept us cool at night. The pool and bar are very nice and the staff are very friendly. Mario, our tour guide was great, he knew a great deal about the plants and animals of the area. We highly recommend the night boat tour, we saw a lot of wildlife! The food choices are limited but they were OK. This place is all about enjoying the natural beauty of the area.

As mentioned in other reviews, this is a place which can only be reached by a long ride through the canals. Once you arrive, you find peace and quiet. There are lots of birds and wildlife to watch and the beach is great for walking. The bar area is beautiful with seating arranged for visiting and the staff was always helpful.

I and my husbond spent 3 nights at Turtle Beach Lodge.
It was a very nice place and the staff kept the surroundings very clean and tidy. The rooms too were clean and nice. There were no glass but mosquitonets in the windows in the rooms, which were in fact very nice, because it made a breeze in the room. Outside our room was a big tree were the spidermonkeys every evening had a feast. In fact were we lying in our beds looking up at them.
The evenings were quite and we had some good nights sleep.

The meals were ok. Not the big variation( tomatoes, cucumber, rice, beans and some kind of meat.
The second day we borrowed a canoo and went down the canals. It was an fabulous experince .We saw spidermonkeys, different kind of birds, a ragoon and leguans. It was so beautiful to enjoy the silence out there in the middel of nowhere. It is possible to go on a night tour, but we did not. We have done it before and usually there is not much to see.
Bring a lot of repellent, there is a lot of mosquitos and other kind of bugs and I was almost eaten up by them.
Overall a very good a experince and we will highly recommend it, but 3 nights is maybe one night to many.

Reading the previous reviews I see several minor complaints about the rooms or the food (which was adequate), but this lodge isn't about the lodge itself, but the location. What a fantastic place! It's true that the rooms are basic, but we sure didn't spend much time in the room. Located just a few yards from the Caribbean, the grounds of the lodge are wonderful, with a great variety of plants, amazing birds, howler monkeys waking us in the morning, and groups of spider monkeys moving through the trees overhead. The nature walks in the forest and the boat trip to view wildlife were great. When we kayaked down the canal and out into the waterway one afternoon, the water was so peaceful and calm that we could paddle just a few strokes and then quietly guide along and spend most of our time searching the jungle for plants and wildlife. Just getting there and returning by boat along the inter coastal waterway was an unforgettable experience in and of itself. Turtle Beach Lodge is fantastic.
