Everything about the place, from pick up at Cano Blanco to drop off on the third day was just lovely. The place maintains a relaxed air while keeping a high level of professionalism.

Food is of a good standard, both tasty and healthy, and served buffet style. The cocktails shouldn't be missed and are well priced given the generous measures.

All staff are friendly and keen to help.

The guides are extremely knowledgeable and eager to answer questions.

Don't miss the guided walk around the gardens - it may sound a bit "run of the mill" but there's a wealth of flora and fauna to learn about.

The sunrise boat tour is staggering in its beauty and the range of wildlife seen - basilisks, caiman, howler monkeys, spider monkeys, white faced capuchins, green heron, at least three species of egret, three of heron, kingfishers, poison dart frogs, glass frogs and much more.

If I'm ever lucky enough to visit this beautiful country again, Laguna Lodge will feature high in my list of priorities.

The only reason I didn't give it a full 5 stars was the lack of air conditioning in the rooms

We spent 4 days at Laguna Lodge in January. It is superbly situated on the water's edge and access is only by boat. The lodge is very well organised and the staff cheerful and helpful..particulary the restaurant staff. Food was good , the bedrooms large, clean and basic but OK. We even had a small boa constrictor to welcome us on the path. !! The visits we took from the lodge were excellent, organised for us by Costa Rica trails..excellent tour operator by the way..Sitting on the deck overlooking the lagoon at night was really magical and I can highly recommend laguna Lodge for all who want to really get away, enjoy peace and the laid back Costa Rican way of life ..

This was my second time visiting Laguna Lodge in Tortuguero and I must say it was even better than the first time! As far as the rooms go, the beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were nice and clean. The rocking chairs on the porches were a nice touch as well. I enjoyed spending a lot of my time in the pool areas, which were both very pretty and relaxing. If not by the pool, I loved being at the beach which was conveniently two minutes away! Great food and great service made my stay even better. If you are looking for a beautiful lodge with peace and quiet, Laguna Lodge is an excellent choice!

Good, clean cabins allthough somewhat small with few shelf spaces if you are a family of 4.

Fantastic gardens with two large pools (great for the kids), frog aquariums, botanical garden and much more. Two minutes walk to the ocean beach.

Good restaurant and lots of available tours.

Really enjoyed the stay here as part of an Eco-terra package tour. Beds were comfortable, but it was usually hot in the rooms from mid-morning until bedtime. With open windows, though, the breeze off the ocean made you look for a sheet to cover with by morning. The gardens were very nice with lots of birds, iguanas, and assorted lizards. The beach was a 5-minute walk and we were lucky enough to see a nest of just-hatched turtles ready to head to the water. The jungle boat tours are always good and you should do the 5:30 am one to see the most wildlife. Food was o.k., served buffet style so there can be lines (I would take off a half-star for that). Overall though, I would stay there again and recommend it for anyone.

Right up front, you have to consider this hotel is just outside Tortuguero National Park (full of rivers and jungle), and is truly a "lodge" not a "hotel." It is rustic. Nobody warned us before we left, so I'll let you in on an important piece of information - many toilets in Costa Rica (including this lodge) cannot handle toilet paper (there is a trashcan by the toilets). Requires a bit of an adjustment. This is a rustic facility - no phone, TV or amenities (though they do have a pool, although good luck finding a chair or a towel). There is beach access, but you cannot swim there. For the location, and with our reasonable expectations, the lodge was nice. Just know this is no luxury resort.

Room Tip: The doors are not flush to the ground - make sure you get an extra towel and roll between the door a...

We had the most amazing stay and enjoyed every minute we were here. From the moment our boat docked and we were handed towels to refresh to our departure, we found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Mario was our tour guide and did a fantastic job of educating us on the wildlife, the culture and the environment. We had a howler monkey outside our room! Iguanas, spider monkeys, capuchin monkeys everywhere! We saw a crocodile and so many species of birds. Such an amazing place and we were so sad to leave. Highly recommend it for nature lovers and families
