Lodge is between the river and the ocean and surrounded by lush jungle. I am a bird watcher and had fun lounging in the beautiful pool as toucans flew around. Lots of iguanas but they don't bother you. Simple but adequate cabins. No air conditioning, but the fans work fine. Enjoyed the porch rocking chairs. The food is good and plentiful. My only complaint, the restaurant needs more fans. The heat from the kitchen heats up the cabana and it can get a bit uncomfortable during meal time. Be sure to take the short hike to the beach. MILES of uninhabited beach to walk and explore. No swimming due to rough current. There is also an arboretum trail for plant lovers. Definitely recommend boat tour into park!!

We took time away from the noise of the city to spend some quiet time in Tortuguero Lodge in the midst of the Tortuguero National Park in Costa Rica. The trip from San Jose, courtesy of the Lodge, was a mixture of highways, byways, dirt roads, and about an hour down a river by boat. It was worth it all. The Lodge is lovely, the rooms great, and the lack of TV and phones almost assures some much needed quiet time. The amount of wildlife and beautiful gardens in the area was great. The food was good, but not great. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. The tour guides were excellent.

Room Tip: No way to go wrong, but be warned there is no air conditioning. However, the fans and relatively cool nights assure good sleep until the monkeys start howling around 5 a.m.

Stayed here with a high school group. The location is spectacular. Between the ocean and the river with immaculate grounds and plentiful wildlife to see all around you. A short walk from town.Very nice pools and other amenities. The rooms were upscale cabins but were very nice, clean and well appointed. The rocking chairs on the porches were a nice touch.
The food in the restaurant was good, although not great. Plentiful but not particularly flavourful (this was common to Costa Rica).

Full of tour groups. Lots of rustic wooden cabins set in lush grounds. Remember to pick up an umbrella at the entrance - you'll need it. Cabins have nice terrace with rocking chairs - nice place to relax & watch the abundant wildlife.
Food pretty average altho plentiful Mealtimes can be pretty chaotic as staff don't seem to be very organised (best to get there either v early or late as you'll be stood in a long queue otherwise).
When it rains you will be woken by the noise of the battering against the roof.

The place is clean and the service is very nice and relaxing.
I liked the rocking chairs outside the rooms.
The rooms are made of wood so when if it rains at night (and it rained really hard on both nights I stayed) you may wake up from the sound of the rain on the roof.

The food was disappointing (dry) and the variety in each meal is small, yet fruits and vegetables are always available and they didn't repeat dishes between meals so it wasn't boring and repetitive..
There's no shampoo in the rooms, so bring your own.
Due to the difficulties of the location, WiFi service is spotty
2 pools which are nice
The location is very nice, if you're interested in plants and flowers you would definitely enjoy the place and there's also a botanical garden on the premise.
Make sure you take some bug spray

I took a boat tour in the park from the lodge, I certainly recommend it. We saw birds, monkeys and even a crocodile. The boat "driver" helps the guide spot animals.
There's a tour to the town (by boat but you can also walk), but it's not very interesting so unless you need to buy something at the grocery store or want some souvenirs you can skip it.

I would recommend this place, but I would also recommend coming prepared.
