We just finished a fabulous 9 day stay at Saladero Lodge. My wife, 2 kids (8 and 11) and my parents had a trip of a lifetime. We all stayed very comfortably in the Beach House and were welcomed each morning with Paulina's smiling face. She is just fantastic and her carefree personality really is contagious. Harvey and Susan go out of their way to make sure every aspect of your stay is comfortable and fulfilling. The food was amazing. The fresh fruit almost all grown on the property was amazing. My 11 year old recommends the white pineapple, sorry Harvey I hope he left you some.
We saw amazing wildlife, howler monkeys, ant eaters, white faced monkeys, scarlet macaws, parakeets, king fishers, sea turtles, dolphins, toucans, several different crabs, and fish species. Daily activities included kayaking, snorkeling, zip lining, hiking, fishing, relaxing, and bird watching. We highly recommend the mangrove kayak tour, as Harvey's knowledge of the wildlife and surroundings really sets this tour off. If you are looking for an adventure try the canopy zip lining tour. My 8 year old was a bit hesitant at first but once he tried it we had to fight him to see who would go first at the next platform.
If you are looking for a great getaway were you can get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life Saladero is the place to go. The adventure starts as soon as you step onto the Saladero Lodge boat and does not end until you step back off it at the end of your stay. Nature is king here and Harvey and Susan really help you understand it's importance, and we feel this was so very important for our kids to understand.

Make sure when you go to make sure you ask for one of their fabulous helados, it will bring a smile to your place.

Harvey and Susan thank you for such special adventure.

My wife and I stayed in the tree house for four nights. This is the ultimate place to relax, whether swimming, kayaking or just lazing in a hammock. The hospitality, fantastic location and the freshly cooked food is superb. Harvey and Susan made us so welcome and nothing is too much trouble for them. Having travelled to many locations during our two weeks in Costa Rica, I can honestly say that there is nothing to surpass Saladero Lodge.

After 3 weeks of driving through Costa Rica, we found Saladero, to spend the last week of our holidays. An excellent choice! We stayed in the treehouse. After going down 88 steps every morning to the beachhouse, we were warmly welcomed by Harvey and Susan, and Paulina. Fresh fruit, coffee, pancakes, and eggs, was an good beginning of another day of swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, reading and relaxing. It does not get any better! I'm sorry Costa Rica is so far away, because we feel as if we have two new friends in Harvey and Susan. If you get a chance to go there...grab it!

My husband and I just spent 7 wonderful days at this amazing lodge. We spent 4 days last year and loved it so much we booked a week this year. Our adventure began with a scenic 35 minute boat ride from Golfito to the lodge. We stayed in the Beach House which was very large, clean and comfortable. We woke up every morning to the sound of the howler monkeys, scarlet mocaws and many birds. We spent our mornings kayaking and snorkeling and our afternoons relaxing in the hammock or fishing. We took the river tour in the kayaks and saw a huge crocodile. Highly recommend this tour!
The sunsets every night were breath-taking. Food and staff were wonderful. Harvey and Susan, the owners of the lodge, are wonderful hosts and treated us like family. We will definitely be back! Thanks for a great time!!

The highlight of our Costa Rican holiday was our stay at Saladero Lodge. We enjoyed wonderful hospitality and magical adventures . . . . especially the mangrove swamp kayaking excursion. Harvey and Susan are the consummate hosts . . . welcoming, relaxed, and knowledgable about the area. Our three night stay was far too short. We highly recommend enjoying a little bit of paradise in this beautiful rainforest-by-the-sea setting

Stayed at Saladero Lodge for 4 nights and Harvey and Susan were the perfect hosts- It felt more like staying with friends. We were encouraged to help ourselves to juice from the fridge or beers from the honesty bar. The Tamarindo juice was perfect. We weren't very energetic, and were happy to use the hammocks, walk the grounds and stroll along the beach . Our daily routine took in the resident scarlet macaws building a nest in a hollow tree. However, kayaks, snorkelling equipment, fishing rods and croquet are available plus a selection of tours in Harvey’s boat.,
It has to be said that the beach is rather muddy and stony- but there is a small area of dark sand. When the tide is out you can walk along the shore to the next bays and not see a soul. It must look much as it did when it was first discovered! The water was lovely and warm and at times boiling with fish. A fellow guest landed a huge Red Snapper which we ate for dinner – from sea to plate in less than 30 minutes.
All this and delicious food too-some of the best we had during our holiday. Harvey’s breakfasts are worth getting up early for- Pancakes and maple syrup, French toast and Gallo Pinto are just 3 options. We stayed in the tree house, which we are glad we did as it was rather an adventure, but next time hope to stay in the Beach house for a little more luxury.
