This is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever visited. Smaller than the typical resort, with only 12 suites, which made it much more relaxing. The rooms are beautiful, clean and all with a large balcony overlooking the pool area. Service is great and the breakfast is very good. There are many attractions in close proximity to this hotel and the staff will help you plan your activities.
Now, this is what really makes this hotel special: Laura, the owner/ manager, makes it her mission to ensure you are taken care of. From the minute she greets you upon your arrival with a glass of wine, you know this is not going to be your typical hotel experience. She is attentive, yet never imposing as she helps you choose attractions, restaurants, etc. She is truly interested in making sure you enjoy Costa Rica and, specifically, El Paso de Las Lapas. By the time you leave, you will feel that you have made a new friend, and you have.
I highly recommend this hotel. You will be very impressed.

Room Tip: All rooms overlook the same pool and moutainside. You can't go wrong!

Hi! Hope to have you back some day. Sorry we didn't response before, we really appreciate your nice comments and it`s the best way to keep improving our services and hotel. We changed our hotel name at the end of last year, know is Hotel Pumilio, a lot easier for travelers, we made more improvements in our little spot and have even more activities to offer so our guest can explore Costa Rica like been at home. We know the value of every minute of our guests vacation and keep doing our best hospitality. If you ever forget, or lose your happy all you have to do is come back to Pumilio. We know how to find the happy in you.

great alternative to mega resorts where you're a number instead of a name. rooms were sparkling clean and beautifully furnished. ended up spending nights here on two occasions, leaving and returning to the airport. breakfast was consistent, hearty, and delicious. staff was warm, gracious, knowledgeable, and made for a perfect visit (both times). a little off the beaten path but the seclusion was a welcome break from the totes and activity of nearby jaco.

I loved everything about my stay at las Lapas. From the initial greeting, which was fairly late at night, to my departure, which was very early in the morning. The introduction to the property was complete - it included the grounds, services, personnel, and room amenities. My room was lovely and I enjoyed the balcony looking out at the pool and rain forest. Everyone at las Lapas made me feel at home. I will tell anyone that will listen what a great vacation I had and what a vital part my hotel experience was toward my enjoyment.

For two young girl travelers with no Spanish speaking experience and no real knowledge of the country, Costa Rica could have been a very difficult experience. Laura made all the doubt and worry of being in another country disappear. Between in good stories and guidance we were able to enjoy the wonderful country with ease. She guided us though the best tours to take (to which we did ATV, surfing, Tortuga Island and ziplining in four days!), always delivered delicious breakfast to fuel our adventures and happily sent us to the city to enjoy the night life.

The hotel itself is also a gorgeous getaway. Laura provides a beautiful hotel room to each guest with large and modern facilities, bathroom, kitchen, air conditioning. The second floor rooms each have patios to enjoy meals and look out at the infinity pool and lounge area in the back. To top it off - wifi is available throughout the hotel for free. I couldn't have gotten any luckier finding this hotel.

We loved our stay at El Paso de las Lapas. The rooms are beautiful and very well decorated. At arrival there was a basket with snacks in the room fully included. The scenery was so nice with the small river behind the pool and the green forest behind that.
The service was very good. When we wanted to get up earlier and have a early breakfast that was no problem and if we had any questions they always had good advice.
It was one of the most beautiful hotel we stayed in during our trip trough Costa Rica

First, I would say that I agree with all other reviews describing how this place is beautiful, well maintained, clean, great pool and amazing garden, feels like paradise, really....
I also wanted to add something very specific to the service as my girlfriend and I had lost our credits cards (both of us lol) in San Jose and the hotel manager has helped us finding them and gave us all the attention we needed. She also gave us great tips for finding restaurants and did guide us really well during the journey.
I know where we will be staying on our next stop in Jaco!
