This motel is in a depressed area. The beds are uncomfortable, just mattress in wood box frame. Room service only upon request. Noisy air conditioner and much street noise.Deposit needed for towels. Innovative in energy conservation. Clean pool and deck area. Friendly and informative motel manager.

Very noisy aircon
Rusty old fridge
Bedding looked new but was so cheap I woke up with burns on my skin - like cardboard!
No breakfast
Manky old curtains with holes
Sign in bathroom saying don't put toilet roll in toilet - yuk!
In keeping with Jaco, which is well worth avoiding IMO.

It is not our fault the guests were not happy with Jaco at all.

One must always keep in mind that this is Central America and it is still a developing country. If you are expecting North American standards you will be greatly disappointed. Some people dislike Jaco like this guest others move here….

There are no sewage treatment facilities in Costa Rica, anywhere. It is standard to put toilet paper in the provided waste basket in Costa Rica. Paper clogs the biological waste septic systems. This is why the signs are posted here and everywhere else in Costa Rica. Our rooms are clean, have good linen, and are in good condition. No holes in the curtains as indicated. As older equipment breaks down it is replaced with new. We are near the Sea and salt air corrodes metal prematurely in this type of environment.

If you want North American standards you will have to visit North America or developed parts of Europe.

If you want lots of Beaches, Sun, and Nature, the simple life, real simple, this is for you.

Please do not expect North American standards in Costa Rica.

First of all I got this hotel for a value of 150 dollars a night but the actual price online was a lot lower. This went for a 3 star hotel while I could hardly call this a 1.5 star. The quality of this place is no shy of being a higher end hostel. The rooms were exteremely dark and small. Bedding was questionable with stained sheets and covers. The shower lacked hot water and the noice level coming from around was unbearable at night. Traffic, neighbors, children just to name a few of the sources of the noice.
The owner was helpful but was not enthusiastic about anything. Some of the professional photos are not true to reality.

One plus is the manager who was extremely friendly and helpful!

Room Tip: Rent an aparthotel that gives you a more cleanly space.

This fellow claims $150 night value???? Our rates are $49 to $69 depending on the month and we even have lower mid week lower rates. Totally false information. If he paid $150 it was sure not to us!

All our rooms have flat white ceilings, light beige walls and floor tiles. He says the rooms are dark???? Did this guy even stay here??? These are standard Hotel rooms not suites, except for upstairs double the size. Information again not verified what so ever. Our website has all the photos of the rooms and what you will get, even plan drawings of the room layout. Check it out yourself.

Stained bedding? I don't think so, they use enough bleach here to take the black out of soot! I should know, I buy 5 gallons every week! Same goes with the Hot water showers there is hot water in all the rooms.

Noise of children, people, and automobiles???? I have never stayed in a Hotel that did not have people in it or cars driving by! I guess in the jungle by Golfito there are walk in by trail accommodations, but the Jungle is very loud with birds, monkeys, etc, in Costa Rica. Expect to hear flocks of Macaws, Parrots, even Howler Monkeys here in the morning. The occasional earthquake tremor will wake you up as well, if you are lucky enough to feel one.

This is not a five star Hotel; Stars are based on amenities available and provided, nothing else. We do not portray to be what we are not. We provide clean, comfortable, affordable accommodation with some extra amenities. If you want a $150 per night beachfront condo, we have them available, but not for $60!

Totally fraudulent unsubstantiated information is on this review site. All the reviews on this site are totally unverified or validated good and bad. The reviewers are not even validated of staying at this Hotel or any other one by any owner for that matter. Take everything here with a grain of salt.

We book a night a blue palm hotel and that was enough. The room are very small, may be there is bigger room but the one we had was tinny. Also, there is a pool but the sidewalk around it it not large enough.

As other say all electricity on the room is tied to a motion sensor so after 10 min all power goes down including the AC.

The review of "Adam C"(You get what you pay for...) is all true.

Be careful.

The sizes of the rooms are visible on the website in detail. We also manage and rent condominiums here in Jaco. Beachfront included. If you want something larger or situated on the beach we can accommodate that, not for the same price of course.

We offer a good value for Jaco with telephone service, AC, Cable TV, WiFi, safe, Hot Showers, a nice pool, and walking distance to the center of Jaco at a reasonable price.

The Blue Palms hotel is a fantastic place to stay if you're visiting Jaco. The rooms are clean, have 24 hour service, and also include towels, soap, shampoo, and hot water. This cannot be said for other hotels in the region. There is also a beautiful swimming pool that families can enjoy. Speaking of families, the upper half of the hotel includes many rooms with 3-4 queen sized beds that are perfect for folks traveling with kids. The location is great, it's right next to a "tienda" where you can buy coca-cola, bottles of water, beer, etc. Next door to that is a "soda" which is a very affordable and great place to eat breakfast lunch or dinner. Finally, there is a fresh fruit stand right next to the "soda" where you can buy bananas, papayas, pineapples, lemons, limes, etc. About a 10 minute walk to the beach. About a 10 minute walk to the main strip, which includes banks for your cash needs, restaurants, and bars. Good value here too. Rolf is a hands-on host who will take care of your requests. Overall a great spot if you are visiting Jaco.

Room Tip: Wifi access is best in rooms 1, 2 or 3.

There are a lot of good reviews on here, so maybe it was just a single bad experience from an otherwise good hotel, but there are several things one should consider before staying at Blue Palm. We reserved three beds via email, but were given a room with only two. They had no other rooms, so one of us had to sleep on an air mattress (more like a pool toy). Worse than that, we had no hot water for showers while there. The shower was dirty and used a plastic ball to cover the drain (see picture). The walls are paper thin. We were in a room at the front of the hotel facing the street and the traffic noise sounded like it was in the room with us. There was actually a hole in the wall with a sock plugging it (see picture).

The electricity is tied to a motion censor. In order to keep the A/C (and refrigerator) on at night we actually had to tie a shirt to the ceiling fan to trip the censor. Otherwise, the A/C turns off after about 10 minutes and you wake up in a sauna (see picture). I'm all for saving electricity, but that's ridiculous.

The price is good, but you get what you pay for. Other reviewers are correct when saying that Rolph is very nice and will help you set up tours, but the hotel was certainly well below what we were expecting. There are numerous other places to stay in Jaco and I would recommend looking elsewhere...

Please do not expect anything like North American Standards here in Costa Rica, you will be greatly disappointed.

If not happy these fellows could have left without charge, we have no problem with that. We were full and had no space available to change rooms on the first night. Three people and three beds are different booking types and there was some confusion over this. We charged for two people, not three. Secondly we offered the next day to change the room to a larger room with three beds and they did not want to.

All the rooms have hot water showers, not like the North American version, demand water heater shower heads, more water volume less heat. Less volume warmer water, exact opposite of North America, I still am not used to it, welcome Costa Rica. No one mentioned to us at any time the hot water did not work that I am aware of, I checked after and the Hot water is working fine in the room.

Same as with the demand hot water heaters, the plumbing here is not North American standard either, hence the plastic ball in the drain to stop sewer gas from entering the room from the shower drain. They do not have roof vents or traps in the drains here, go figure.… We have now installed a new design of floor drain to correct this standard Costa Rica plumbing issue, :)

As with the energy conservation system, it is only connected to the AC units and some lights, not the refrigerators in the rooms. Electricity in Costa Rica is the most expensive in the world at 36 cents per Kilowatt hour, and a peak usage surcharge to boot. A quick Google check will confirm this. I myself slept overnight in this same room to see if the power system was malfunctioning. It stayed on all night for me and did not shut off once. If the door or window is left open the AC unit will shut down automatically, as well if no one is present in the room. No sock on the fan blades is required; trying to circumvent the energy system will not work and will not be tolerated. Running the AC with the doors and windows open will not work here, sorry.

In order to keep the rooms affordable and comfortable with AC, we installed this system last year and are refining it for a comfort efficiency balance. We also installed all LED out-door lighting and CFL lights inside the rooms. We also converted to solar powered clothes drying, and high efficiency washers, and low flush toilets. We are very serious about energy conservation here. We are the only ones with the lights on at night, LEDs of course, ultra low consumption. Better security too, it gets dark here with no lights on in town…

Yes, the rooms at the front are noisier because of the road noise. The Macaws and flocks of parrots are very loud in the morning too. It can get very noisy in central Jaco on the weekends but we are close enough to walk there and just far enough away from it to be content. Many guests stay here because of this distance and proximity balance. The construction standards here could use better sound proofing; we are working on it and will come up with a solution to the front room noise. If you want real quiet 5-8 are the best choices, and A-B for multiple guests, four separate beds.

I have had the hotel for a year and a half and am making numerous improvements all the time. I like comforts too. It is a slow process but we are definitely making progress.

Please do not expect anything like North American Standards here in Costa Rica, you will be greatly disappointed. Simple things like addresses, postal service, quick service, good roads, parts or supplies availability, any sort of selection, constant electricity, common sense, etc, these are all in short supply here in Costa Rica. Things are definitely different, in comparison to Europe or North America. It is more simple and basic living, harder at times for sure, but less demanding. Step back in time to different era.

This is a developing country and people live very simple here, without all the North American selection and conveniences. They are available here but you will pay dearly for them, double or triple price is conservative. If you want that sort of comfort and convenience the Los Suenos Marriot is your place, but then again some of their guests came here to stay to get more bang for the buck, the real Costa Rica….

At the Hotel we keep it clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy. I really do miss my medium rare Alberta Beef BBQ T-bone Steaks, loaded baked potatoes, 60” LED 500 channel TV, and lazy boy recliner easy chair…..
