“Amazing Start”
Reviewed 25 April 2012

We spent three days at Villa Caletas as the first stop of our trip. We are on our way to Manuel Antonio today. I just hope that everything will be at the same level now !! The hotel is just fantastic, the view, the pool, the staff are second to none. We were in a junior suite superior, had a large room, i realy mean large. same for the terrace with our own jacuzzi. There was also a private pool for our building. They come to pick you up with a golf cart when you need to go the main hotel !! Bell boys are just great and friendly as all the staff from the restaurant. We will come back, maybe sooner than we thaught :) .

Room Tip: Junior Suite Superior ...we dont know the others, but you wont be dissepointed here.

A breathtaking setting with views that go on forever. We stayed in one of the Master Suites and it was spectaular. We hardly ever left - with our own beautiful terrace overlooking the ocean and a private eternity pool, why would we want to leave? Room service was great, although the menu was a bit limited. Dinner in the main restaurant was very nice, service was adequate. Dinner in the amphetheatre restaurant wasn't so great. Same basic menu and same prices as the main dining room, but the service and ambiance don't compare. Concierge and Bellman were great, very friendly and helpful. The front desk service is awful - they need major customer service training. Terrible at check in, terrible at check out, and acted like they were really being bothered for any request made.

Room Tip: Master Suite was well worth the extra money and very private.

We stayed in the Zephyr Palace for 3 nights in the Real suite. This is a beautiful hotel above the Pacific ocean. The sunsets are amazing! The staff was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant was delicious. We had breakfasts and dinner there mostly, and drinks :) This was where I first had a Guaro Sour, basically. Best one I had in the whole country! The pool at the palace was great. We were pretty much the only ones in the palace those nights so we had it all to ourselves. There was supposed to be a bartender up there, but we never saw one, it would have been nice. The beach is a nice place to relax, not for swimming. We tried the spa while we were there, had the romance package, a little spendy but very relaxing. The concierge was very helpful and set up out ATV tour in Jaco for us, which was so much fun! This is out of town a ways so if you don't have a car you are spending $20 on a tax just to get into Jaco. You get a workout walking from the Palace to the restaurant, which I did not mind. We could have taken the gulf cart whenever, but I like to walk. We would definitely come back!

Room Tip: If you can try the Palace, it is amazing! I'm going to save up to go for an even more lavish roo...

We stayed in the Zypher Palace and had a junior suite. It was really wonderful....with each room having its own heated jacuzzi. The sunset views were wonderful......and the private swimming pool for the Palace was really beautiful. Super restaurant and staff!

Room Tip: Book on Expedia for reduced rate.......and make sure and get rooms in the Zepher Palace.

This is an over the top location 1200 feet above the Pacific. Once your there it is a hike to go any place else. The Beach is not really a swimming beach at least in low tide; it is very rocky. The Service was A+, but you come here for the view. Look down at birds soaring below. Our room was in the Hotel and was room #1. The room and bathroom had lanterns with candles that we lite at night. At sunset most people went to a stadium area that had bar service. Drinks are very expensive. This is a place that I would go back to. The Place rooms were much more expensive and we took a tour and the rooms were unbelieveable. People can get deals and it the price is right, go for the Place. I must admit, the service was really good and staff was very friendly. Be prepared to climb alot of stairs.

Room Tip: Shop around for the best price but try to get the Place

We stayed here with a group for a few days and got married. The rooms were beautiful with great views. We left a couple of dollars for our housekeeper each morning and we had the greatest towel animals on our bed by the afternoon. There were toucans all over the property, which was great. The restaurant was outstanding as well, as was Giovanni, our bell hop. Beware of passing storms though...Caletas was struck by lightening when we were there so phone service was a little touch and go and the wifi occasionally went down. We didn't find the concierge service very helpful either...they knew less about the hotel than we did at times. For example (and this is just one example), one night they told us it would be $40 to get a ride into Jaco from the hotel. We reluctantly agreed, but took a taxi back to the hotel that night (which was only $26). When we checked out, we saw that we were only charged $28 for that original ride...we have no idea what happened or why the concierge thought it would be so expensive.

We found this property through Jetsetter, who had an amazing deal. We drove ourselves from the airport in San Jose. Drive was pretty easy. The concierge had sent us directions which were very easy to follow. The driveway up to the property is pretty steep. It is paved and fine as long as you go slowly. Check-in was a rushed process. We were supposed to be staying in one of the rooms in the Zephyr Palace. When we received our keys and were shown our room, it was not in the Palace. We went back to reception and after some discussion were told the hotel had given us a complimentary upgrade. That was very nice, however they should have let us know that at check-in. Anyway, the room we stayed in was wonderful! It was very large, and had a private balcony with our own hot tub. The building only had 8 rooms with a pool for those rooms only. Everyday we had a beautiful towel animal with fresh flowers on our bed. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The Amphitheater is a wonderful place to watch the sunset. Just be prepared to share this experience with many other people. Biggest complaint about the hotel was the drinks. For such a nice hotel, the drinks were mediocre. They are over priced and watered down. Wine prices in the hotel restaurant are pretty high, so we didn't have any wine. Hotel setting is perfect to get away from it all and relax. Not far from Jaco if you want the city and the beach, but far enough to feel like you are really isolated. Would stay here again for sure.
