“Luxury in Herradura”

This is a great place to stay if you need to get closer to the airport before returning from Costa Rica. We were not the only ones that had this idea - we recognized several people from the patio dinner room at the San Jose airport the next day. Of course we wish we could have stayed longer. This would be a VERY good honeymoon location. The sunset views are breathtaking, and across to the other side you can see sunrises too! The hotel has its own beach which is very nice; you can order food and beverages down there, get towels, relax comfortably, etc. The amenities and staff are impeccable. The Zephyr Palace sister property is even MORE luxurious, if that's even possible. The room rates are refreshingly affordable, I think they make it up some with the food prices though. Still, all in all, this experience is fit for a king at a good value.

I recently got eloped at this amazing place. Had the best pictures and ceremony on a private terrace they set up for us. Thanks for everything (Jackson). Pictures do not do the justice for their majestic views and Jurassic like beach which was under sold btw. The property it's on is whole different paradise. You really don't have to leave the resort for anything. Our pool villa was amazing, surprisingly quiet and clean. Just keep the doors shut, take bottled water and lots of extra tip money because the staff really helps out with anything and everything. Now it's a jungle, don't forget! Your gonna hear some exotic birds in the morning and see some bugs but it's the characteristic of the rain forest. Can't wait to go back and renew our vow's. Thanks Villa Caletas...

I am so grateful to my lovely husband for picking such a beautiful place to go on our honeymoon. I can't believe how amazing this place was. We stayed in room 35 and it was a dream!! The service was superb. Everyone is so sweet and accommodating. It is a bit pricey but only if you are not willing to pay a little more for luxury. Gracias Villas caletas por su bellaza y tan lindas personas. Pura vida!!!!!

This place was all about the views.
It was amazing and lavish, very nice. Stayed here twice a while back. Once on our way out to mal paiz and again on our return (took a water boat taxi from jaco, about an hour and saw whales!)
Good food here as well.
Not very close to the beach but they will drive you anywhere

We just returned from our stay at Villa Caletas and we were not disappointed at all. The rooms were spectacular. We were in room 30, and had the best view! Every morning we would see Toucans come to our tree and sit there, along with many other different birds. It was the best view of the sunset.
The pool was very nice as well. We really enjoyed our stay.

We rented a car, which it took about ten minutes to go up the big hill to get to the actual hotel, but it was worth it, as a taxi will run you about $20 to get into Jaco. The rental car gave us freedom to go around town because the hotel is not in walking distance to anything.

The beach isn't anything special, so I would stay at the pool if you plan on lounging around the hotel.

The restaurant was extremely expensive and was not the best meal we had. But it was convenient.

When we come back to Costa Rica, we will definitely look to stay at Villa Caletas again.

Room Tip: We had room 30 and loved it!! It was the directly below the viewing deck for the sun set, so we had...

We had the pleasure of staying at Villa Caletas over the Memorial Day weekend. Arrived in total darkness and were surprised to awake to the incredible beauty of the property. The staff, from reception to the concierges to the waiters to the maintenance and cleaning staff, all have one goal, to make your stay as wonderful as possible. We spent two days on the property chilling and two days on excursions arranged by the staff. Transportation to the property and around Jaco were arranged for us by the concierge and was always timely and efficient with friendly drivers. If there was a negative, it would be the harrowing ride to and from the beach, which in retrospect, could be viewed as an adventure. Hopefully, we will have the opportunity to return in the future. Thank you Villa Caletas for making our trip awesome...

My boyfriend and I just got back from 9 serene days at Villa Caletas, and I have never been more sad to leave a vacation. Everything from the location itself which is nothing short of breathtaking, to the service, to food, to the hotel and amenities were perfect. Every single day, we were amazed at beauty of this slice of heaven on earth.

We visited at the end of May which is technically during the rainy season which runs from April-November. Of our nine days, it rained on 5 of them.. for like 1 or 2 hours in the afternoon. DONT WORRY ABOUT IT. The start of the rainy season is just occasional afternoon showers or thunderstorms. We couldn't have had better weather, and the rainy season discounted rates were nice too :)

Some quick takeaways for future travelers:

Location: It took us a little over an hour from SJO to get there. The location is VERY quiet on top of a large hill overlooking jungles and the Pacific... the next closest hotel is about 20 mins away. If you are looking for luxurious fun and seclusion, this is it.

Surroundings: The hotel is built into the jungle so at all times you feel like you are living in a luxurious rain forest resort with toucans, macaws, monkeys and more! There are panoramic views of the ocean at nearly every location, its amazing.

Rooms: There are a large variety of room styles to chose from. We stayed in a villa, #28, which was one of the cheaper options, but it was still incredibly luxurious with a private patio looking over the ocean.

Pool & Beach:The pool is out of this world gorgeous, great for taking pictures, but the private beach is even better! We made the trip down to the beach 4 out of our nine days. Its a huge private beach, and we pretty much had the place to ourselves every time we were down there. The people complaining about the pebble beach are crazy, it was one of favorite beaches I've ever visited! You never have to worry about getting sandy or the wind whipping it in your face! There are sandy parts to be clear where you can go splash and swim around in the water, but 90% is pebble. There's also a full service bar with killer drinks and munchies too.

Food: Amazing, but you do pay for it! Meals range from $15-45 per person, so it can add up quickly. The food is gourmet but not in an over the top flashy way, just really great quality meals that are served up in style. The best dishes were the ones that were native to Costa Rica. We ate at Anfiteatro everyday for breakfast and dinner (you just can't beat the view!), and we pretty much got the Caleta's Breakfast every single morning, which had eggs, rice and beans, avocado, farmers cheese, tortillas, and plantains. Very Costa Rican, and my boyfriend and I agreed it was the best breakfast we'd every had.

Excursions: We did 4 on a 9 day trip, which was just enough. I'd recommend the same ratio, about half the days you visit for excursions. That way you can still enjoy the pool and the beach, but also get some exhilarating fun in as well. You don't want to miss out on either opportunity!
Ziplining with Vista Los Suenos: A MUST. 12 lines over 2 hours down a mountain with killer views. One line was over 1/2 a mile long, another they have you go upside down, so cool and so much fun.
Couples Massage at Serenity Spa,Villas Caletas: Holy crap you have to do this. You know when you go to a spa for a deep tissue massage and you end up laying there not really feeling any pressure or sense of relief after? This is the antithesis. Best deep tissue massage of my life. Pricey, but well worth it! Watch out for promotions at the hotel too!
Manuel Antonio: Very touristy, but still fun. If you want guaranteed close encounters with monkeys, this is the place. There are also beautiful white sand beaches here, and the tour allots time for you to lay out and soak up the sun.
Caletas Private Boat to Tortuga Island: The best of all! Very nice speedboat takes you to Tortuga Island about 45 mins away from the hotel. We snorkeled in the open ocean around a small rock island, and sped around all afternoon popping from one uninhabited island to the next. Incredibly fun and would recommend to everyone.

Services: Everyone is extremely pleasant and accommodating. Keep in mind that you are visiting a Latin American country, so English is a second language to everyone there. It goes a long way with the staff to recall those few phrases you remember from old Spanish courses. They appreciate it, and it helps you appreciate how hard they are working for you, too! Shoutout to Jocksan and Edguardo for making our trip unforgettable. We already miss both of your friendships, and hope to come back soon!!

Room Tip: villa 28 had beautiful views from the patio, but a shared wall with another villa. We could hear the...
