Over the course of the last ten years, visiting Jaco 3 to 4 times a year, I stayed at many different hotels and resorts. Once I discovered Club del Mar Hotel some four years ago I knew instantly that my search for the perfect place in the area was over. It all begins with the owner Philip, a natural borne perfectionist with tremendous experience in hotel business. His almost obsessive attention to details, combined with love for everything Costa Rica and а big hospitable heart, resulted in creating the most pleasurable place for vacation on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. His staff (or his family, as he refers to them) consists of highly professional people who will, at the same time, make you feel like you are among best friends. It makes no difference whether your trip is business or pleasure, quiet relaxation or active vacation, Club del Mar hotel will accommodate all your requirements, and most likely exceed your expectations.

Is a great hotel, location is quiet, with the exception of the stupid air brakes from the trucks that go all night. Has a good restaurant, better to eat here for lunch and dinner as although the food is good, the price is too high for dinner. Breakfast and lunch prices include service and tax, dinner does not, so be prepared to pay too much for dinner. Bit of a hike to town, yes Mas X Menos is 30 minutes plus by walking, so walk one way and take a cab the other as it will only be $3-$4 for the cab which has AC.

Room was a huge two bedroom suite, two king beds, AC, and all the amenities. But, they give you one small bag of coffee and cream, etc., and then when you ask for the second night (we were only there 2 nights) they suggested paying for the too expensive coffee they had in the useless shop. For $300 a night, they could do better. Everything else was fine. Room was clean, staff was polite, with the exception of the lady about the coffee, who was a bit brusque.

We ate all three meals at the hotel. Go with one of the packaged breakfasts they offer as 4,000 or so colones for a small amount of Gallo Pinto was also absurd. Sometimes the service at the restaurant was spanish only and sometime english and spanish (and from the same serving people).

Room Tip: Ask for one of the rooms near the beach or with beach or pool view as the others that back onto the highway can be noisy with the trucks and their stupid air brakes.

The hotel itself was average. The room was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. It is a little far from the center of Jaco ($4 taxi ride into town). The pool needed to be clean too. I would have rated this average but the poor rating is for double charging my credit card and for their failure to respond to my emails seeking a correction of the mistake. I understand that mistakes with billings happen but the hotel should act quickly to resolve such mistakes. It has been 1 month and multiple emails and the charge is not resolved. Not cool, Hotel Club del Mar.

We stayed here in February 2012, on the last leg of a 10-day trip to CR. It's at the southern end of Jaco beach, so feels a bit more secluded. It was only about a $3 taxi ride into town (to the Mas x Menos grocery store), or you can walk along the beach (during the day), which takes roughly 30 minutes to get to slightly past the centre of Jaco. One of the reasons we chose this hotel was because it was literally right on the beach, and we could walk to Jaco, but was not right in the thick of things.

Everyone who works there was very friendly to us. The front desk service is laid back, but never steered us wrong when we asked for advice and recommendations.

The grounds are very well maintained, and our one-bedroom condo was spacious and very clean. The kitchen and bathroom are a little bit dated by North American standards, and the decor is more typical Tico than cool boutique hotel, but the bed and pillows were comfortable, and the AC worked perfectly. Free WiFi only worked around the pool/bar/reception area. The beach was very clean.

The included continental breakfast was generous (toast plus a HUGE fresh fruit plate; boy, do I miss the fruit) and the coffee was, as to be expected, amazing. The hotel's restaurant is moderately expensive (expensive by CR cost of living, of course), but decent. We had a full breakfast there one morning, and my husband tried one of the daily fish specials. Not fancy, but perfectly prepared.

Do be aware that Jaco Beach is a public beach, so regardless of where you stay, you'll see Ticos on the weekend (Sunday was the busiest) come for the day with their coolers, set up a picnic spot regardless of whether it's in front of a hotel or not (most of the beach is in front of one hotel or the other!), and stay the day. It was not a bother to us at all, and the hotel has security who ensures no one aggressively tries to picnic on the hotel's property.

There was a range of guests of all ages; some with young children, some retired. We stayed far from the pool area so can't comment on whether it was noisier there.

I took a surf lesson from the surf school, and really enjoyed it. The instructors were great. Two girls in my group were also taking the morning fitness classes that can be arranged through the hotel, and the classes looked GOOD (as in hard).

We watched several sunsets from the pool area; they're really lovely in Jaco. Our favourite meal was at Lemon Zest - excellent meal, on par with high end restaurants back home. We took the tour to Manuel Antonio, which was good, although somewhat similar to one we had done near Arenal. We arranged private transportation to the airport through the hotel; driver arrived on time, offered to stop at several key places on our way (we had time), and we arrived safely and on time.

We will most definitely consider staying here again, particularly if we return with our children. I would absolutely recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Consider booking a condo that isn't close to the pool, if you want to avoid pool noise.

This is our second time to Jaco. Our first visit almost ended in a bad trip until we stumbled upon this place. Top notch rooms and service on our first trip. Our second trip the rooms were still top notch but some of the help was a little slack in duties and had to be reminded several times for water or drinks. A chat with the owner and the staff got hopping like rabbits. Phil runs a tight show there and really believes in top service. The condo rooms are only a few feet from the beach. What a beautiful sight at sunset. The food was good to excellent. Breakfast was always generous portions but for some reason they just don't get it when you say over easy eggs. Maybe the translation get lost somewhere. The fruits and meats were always good. The daily specials top notch. The large pool was really nice to sit by for a sunburn.
Televisions in the living rooms and bedrooms. A full kitchen and nice size baths.
The resort has all amenites one could want. All of the staff is courteous and polite.
Our next trip to Jaco will be Club Del Mar and only Club Del Mar.

Room Tip: Ask for a condo near the water.
