First the good. Fast check-in. Nice pool. Open- air restaurant. I liked all those things. The employees were gratious and seemed to enjoy their jobs. Our room overlooked the pool area. The bad: Not any critical lapses here. Dinner prices are high. Road noise from loud trucks is teeth-rattling. Beds are firm. This is a good place to stay and make your way to area attractions. Downtown is a $4 cab ride or a 25 minute walk on the beach. (which is rocky). Overall, we liked this place.

Room Tip: Get a room closer to the ocean to avoid road noise.

This is definitely a 3 star hotel, some websites say 4. That said, it is clean and the staff will do whatever it takes to make your stay perfect. If the beds, linens, and pillows were better it would be a 3 ½ or a low 4. Lots of surfers if that’s what you are into, we used it as our home base and spent most of our time in the Manual Antonio area. We were in room 200 (a hotel room) above the kitchen, dishes clanking at night and food smells. We moved down the hall to a different room. Food was great, nightly specials were priced well. Drink prices were a bit high 8.50 for a pina colada. Took a tour arranged by the hotel, it was AWESOME, a half day private tour, including transportation with Sergio. He will take you pretty much anywhere. Nice guy, good price, and very knowledgeable. His email is demiedopuntocom@gmail.com and his local number is 8838-2507.

Room Tip: They have condos for families or couples traveling together. Great sunsets.

The reviews on this place speak for itself, but I'll add my 2 cents. When I travel, I usually look to the bad reviews to see the negatives, as there are usually only a few, and the ones for this hotel are completely wrong. This place is awesome. I went there with about 30+ family members for my cousin's wedding and I can't think of a single complaint.

We had a standard room, which you can expect to be the same as any best western, holiday inn 1 or 2 bedroom setup, but more floral and exotic. But when we saw the condos our aunts and uncles had, we upgraded. If you can afford a condo, get one. 2 bedrooms with a pullout sofa, a kitchen, 2 baths, a balcony or patio and some with great views of the water, you can't lose. The kitchen is stocked with the basics and if your missing something, just ask, they'll get you anything you need. You can save a lot of money by just grocery shopping here and using your kitchen.

The restaurant here was great and moderately priced. If your like me and our small group of the family, 23-25 y/o who don't care too much about the food but the price, you can get meals here for $4. And I mean a meal... a lot of food. You can casado's at many local places and they have rice, beans, vegies, meat, fish, a drink and basically anything you could want. And it's good food too, better than your typical Cancun resort meals. I think the best one we found was called Baha Maja, or something similar. It's right off the highway about 2 mins from the hotel. There's also a pizza place on you way to Hermosa from the hotel, Olivera (i think), that has great extra large supreme pizza's for $16. And you can go into town for some other great cheap meals, or expensive ones (Lemon Zest), they have it all.

Nightlife is great. Plenty of bars to choose from and again, drinks are cheap. Girls should travel with guys or in groups cause you will get hit on. And guys, don't give any attention to the ladies "working" at the clubs, unless your into that thing (Many of them don't dress the part and look like normal locals, be careful), cause they are persistent. Ask the locals on the beach or when shopping what bar is good or what place is having a special. The Loft has an open bar night for a certain amount of time, another bar had 50 cent beers... that's unheard of in Canada (ps regular beer there is $1 a can). If you stay at your hotel, buy booze at the duty free just before you leave the airport. Many bottles are under $20 and you won't find those prices, or selection, anywhere else in Jaco. And you can buy like 8 bottles, take advantage.

Jaco beach is a great, long spanning beach that changes drastically in tides. The water recedes so far at night, makes for great beach soccer. During the day, and at peak times, surfing is a must. If you don't know how, find someone to teach you or take a class. I've never surfed before and I got the hang of it in about 20 mins. But watch out for other surfers and keep a safe distance during peak times. It gets really packed. Don't get the boards at Club del Mar, there is a place, Surfer School, I think in front of Hotel 9 with a blue tent that will rent you a board for $10 a day. Really cool guys, very laid back, pay when you can. Get one of those skin tight surf shirts or your chest and abs will be all scraped by the end of it. The surf in front of this place is probably the best on Jaco, in front of Club del Mar is a lot more calmer, most times.

Oh, and not to scare you, but you will find stingrays or "fish with wings" as the locals call them, in the water with you on some days. They surf the wave too, and its the coolest thing to see, but they avoid you and weren't ever a problem for us. If you step on one, they'll flap around a bit, but don't be worried, just be cautious.

For those of you interested in tours, we didn't do too many but here are a few:

- Manuel Antonio: If you like sightseeing and relaxing, do this. Takes about an hour to get there and you may not see any animals (monkeys, birds, etc) but the older crowd loved it. Younger crowd.. not so much, kinda boring.
- Los Suenos Zip Line: Everyone should do this. If you like roller coasters, you'll like this. You go fast, great view, funny hosts, and you get a treat at the end. Also takes a little while to get there. Requires no skill, you are harnessed up and just hang on a line. They tell you how to brake but you dont need to brake on any of the lines (except one), they have a way to slow you down.
- Villa Caletas Sunset: If you like sunsets with a great, grand view, go here. There is a restaurant that is a bit pricy, but the view is better than anything you'll find and it's only 15-20mins away.
- ATV's and Scooters: We were told the ATV tours were awesome, they take you to waterfalls and other great places. But I recommend renting ATV's over scooters. My brother rented a scooter and ended up getting in an accident. Driving in Jaco can be dangerous. Speed limits exist, but no one follows them, and tour buses are crazy. You need to be careful. Also, check the condition of your scooter or ATV, watch for bald tires!! And the roads are curvy, steep, some are full of potholes. Take it easy when you drive but watch for crazy drivers. If you can, Cab it. Its $4 into town and relatively cheap everywhere else too, and a lot safer. Or rent a car if you really want to drive yourself, that was cheap as well.

Overall, Jaco is one of the best travel locations i have been to. There is still so much more to see and do. I will definitely be going back. Probably to a cheaper hotel with some buddies on a budget, but if all you want to do is drink, surf, relax, and just have have a good time, Jaco is the place.

In early April, my family was lucky to visit Costa Rica (perfect season). The first week we had a rest in San Jose - the most convenient point of departure, if you plan to tour the country. The next week was devoted to the ocean. I liked the offer from Jetset (www.jetsetvacations.com) Club Del Mar Hotel. I opted for the south Jaco because the place is very quiet, relatively quiet and clean beach, and taxis are always ready to take you to the city (3$) or to the airport SJO (1,30 hour drive on the new road, $ 80 per car).
Accommodation at the hotel was perfect for three adults (1Bd).
Staff - wonderful. The hotel restaurant each day offered special dishes from the cooks at a very good price.Every morning we started with a modest complimentary breakfast, although a separate price for something you can order extra. And when our vacation ended early in the morning and we met at the airport, the waiter kindly offered us a breakfast wrap with them.
The general impression I can see that the place is very quiet. Customers at almost was not. This may sound boring, but after a week of daily excursions Club Del Mar was a godsend for us.

Room Tip: Indeed, if you come during the week and early, it just may be the best place to get a house closer t...

We didn't think too much of the place when we first pulled up that night, but once we got to our room we went "Wow!". We had a living room, kitchen and bedroom facing the ocean. The room was decorated with gorgeous local Costa Rican wood art and lots of carved woodwork framing in the rooms. The room was clean and inviting and the pool and grounds are well kept.

When the air conditioning didn't work in the living room, we got a call from the front desk offering a 2-bedroom upgrade. We ended up staying put and the a/c worked fine, but what great service!

The only downside, and this was fairly minor, was that the main road was right behind the hotel and sometimes the trucks were loud when they were shifting down the hill.

The food at the hotel was good, but you must try Graffiti in town, simply a must do. The Tortuga Cruise was fun, but a little pricey for what you get. This was the second leg of our Costa Rican adventure and we just relaxed at Club DelMar for a couple of days after a big adventure in LaFortuna.

We did not stay at Club Del Mar but we ate at their restaurant. On our last night in Jaco, we decided to dine at the Club del Mar and what a great decision that was. The food was excellent and the service exceptional. The restaurant overlooks the hotel's pool with an ocean view. It was a wonderful last dinner for our vacation. Highly recommended.

We stayed here after 5 days in San Jose hustle and bustle...needless to say we were ready for some relaxing time. Enter Club Del Mar! We had a one bedroom villa (only 2 per building) with lounge chairs on our deck overlooking the yard and beach beyond. Beautiful view over the south end of Jaco Beach. Long walk or easy taxi into town. Continental Breakfast was included daily. We ended up eating here for dinner too. The food was excellent. We met the owner who along with all his employees insured we had a nice relaxing vacation.

Room Tip: One bedroom villa rather than regular room
