As first time visitors to Costa Rica we felt we found the best of condos in Jaco. The property was immaculate, managed by Heidi and Bryan. Any request or need was immediately seen to. The swimming pool was outstanding and just a few steps to the ocean.
Getting around town was perfect from this location. A wealth and variety of restaurants. There wasn't anything we could complain about but a small suggestion that the furnishings in our suite could be replaced. The wear and tear was beginning to show but otherwise we thought it was an exceptional condo complex.

One of the best vacation we have had in a long time. Daystar Bahia Azul location was perfect.
This was our first time in Jaco, Costa Rica but we will return. Local people are so very nice and we walked a lot and felt very safe. We were there for two weeks and would have loved to stayed longer. However we did have a few minor problems with things not working in our condo A1, Ice maker was not working, No fan on patio, and the worst thing was dryer was broken. With these things broken it still was the best. Location of condo right on beach made everything perfect and staff couldn't been better. Thank you Bahia Azul

After spending two months travelling around Costa Rica we choose to spend our last month (January 2014) in Jaco at Bahia Azul unit 7B. We had such an enjoyable time that we didn't want to leave - Bryan and Heidi and all the staff were friendly, efficient and extremely professional - the whole place is just so well run it makes you feel relaxed being there. The location is fantastic - right on the beach where there are decent waves (on a higher tide) plus you can easily walk anywhere in Jaco from Bahia Azul.
The internet was also extremely fast. We would definitely come back.

Room Tip: Unit 7B is on the second floor and so has more privacy - plus it has a great view over the pool and...

We rented directly from the owner on VRBO well in advance, which proved to be much cheaper. We came from the U.S. to stay for the month of January 2014, and were very pleased. The unit is just as described/shown, except the picture of the beach is very old and was taken when an older fence was up and before a road was built between the units and the beach. (I am adding a new picture.) Cars may park on the beach beside the road and play their radios full blast during the day, but that did not prevent us from taking a siesta most days and we could hear only the surf after about 6 PM weekdays and 9 PM holidays. Mowing and leaf blowing seems confined to mornings after 9 AM. (Noise after 10 PM is forbidden by law in Costa Rica.)
The unit was charming, decorated in an African art, and well outfitted. Yes, the kitchenware shows hard use by previous tenants: the teflon on some pans was torn up and I had to buy a measuring cup, but all the important elements were there-tableware for four. (The onsite manager, Brian brought a heavy-duty extension cord to circumvent the nonfunctional electrical outlet, so we could use the microwave, and he showed us how to work the drier, and replaced the missing beach towel. He repaired the table lamp when it shorted out, called the police when someone decided to play loud music in the middle of the night) , and found us the best hospital in San Jose when I fell and broke my hip.
I recommend bringing tall rain boots for park treks in damp weather--these are $14, at El Lagar-- a sharp paring knife, measuring spoons, and an omelet pan. Prices are reasonable for a tourist location, except at El Lagar, which does have all the things tourists might want. We saw lots of birds including four scarlet macaws.
There are ten buildings in Bahia Azul, each with three units. There are no common walls, so all we heard of the neighbors is an occasional chair scraping above us. The units each have two bedrooms, making it a pleasant stay for four people-- we had a couple as guests for one week of our stay. We went through 5.2 earthquake on Jan.17 (centered in Jaco) with absolutely no ill effects--nothing was disturbed or came off the walls.

I swim before breakfast, and until 8am the huge pool is in shade, uncrowded, and a nice swimming temperature. (M, W, F, mornings when the pool is cleaned iaround 7 AM so swimming before breakfast must be in the ocean. In the ocean, I like to swim beyond the breakers and a bit south of the Bahai Azul complex, and away from the two rivers, which each may carry some pollution. I thus steer clear of novice surfers and their runaway boards. I found just a small current running north to south). The beach is lovely in the morning, although the ‘sand’ is brown, and the water is warm.
The complex is very nicely located: far enough from the hustle of the main street (Pastor Diaz Blvd.) but an easy walk there. In fact the stores are much closer than I had gathered from Google maps. Iit is an easy 10 minute stroll to MasXMenos, and only a few minutes more to the DayStar office.
I saw two casinos, one provocatively attired young woman leaving condos in the early morning and another as my husband said “parading” on Pastor Diaz. I smelled pot once, but saw no hard drugs used, and generally found the reputation of Jaco as “sin city” greatly exaggerated.
About the location of our unit: 1-A, is next to the guard station, so we had little concern about robbery, although we did use the safe in the unit. We regularly walked back to the condo at night and felt perectly safe. I experienced none of the machismo evident in some other Latin cultures. Everyone, from the airport driver, Morisio, to Karina and the other DayStar office staff, to Brian, the onsite manager of the units, spoke English, and I was a bit challenged to find a chance to practice the Spanish I had learned for the trip, but the security guards and the restaurant wait staff indulged me in this. (For the most part, Ticos speak slowly and clearly. The intimate form of the second person singular, [“tu”] is not used in Costa Rica making Español that much easier to learn.)
The ATMs in Jaco were a big disappointment. Those at the Costa Rican banks (at least Banco Popular, Banco National and Banco Costa Rica do not accept bank card, regardless of their posted network affiliations, but only accept Visa or MasterCard. This means that you will have to take out a cash advance loan (at a high rate of interest) and get a PIN before you leave home. (I suspect collusion between the C.R. banks and the U.S. banks in this arrangement.) The Scotia ATM in MasXMenos was the only ATM we found that takes bank cards, and so permits a simple withdrawal from your bank account when you need colones. Note: I did find a good hair cutter, Barbara, but she took only cash, not charge cards.
The two good restaurants we found were Paparazzi, which has the best wine, and the Green Room, which has some nice C.R. craft brews. Other restaurants were either grubby or pretentious and overpriced. A good ‘soda’ (informal C.R. restaurant, good for lunch)at the south end is Marea Alta.
Pura Vida.

On our first trip to Costa Rica we stayed at Bahia Azul for the week. Our unit was very clean and everything was in good working order. The staff and security were out and about every day, available to us, but we didn't need them. We met folks from all over and several had come back year after year to this same property. We did utilize the Daystar services for four area tours and transportation to/from airport. All of the tours were punctual, guides were knowledgeable, and each was very enjoyable. Karina and Lupe, office staff members, were so much fun to work with as well. We couldn't ask for anything more.

We had a great stay at Bahai Azul. Brian and Heidi were great hosts! They were extremely helpful in organizing tours and pointing out amenities in town. The pool was large and the rooms were extremely clean and well maintained. Just a $2 taxi ride in to town (don't walk the beach at night!) and the security was very friendly and attentive. All hotels in Jaco are pricey but this place is great value for your dollar!

Room Tip: beachfront all the way. Top floors have a sun deck on top that would have been amazing to have!

We stayed 4 days in this great condo. First to combat some of the older reviews that had issues.
Bahia Azul now has Brian on sight to deal with problems and he is awesome with anything you need!!(before that you had to deal with the property office over a mile away). Also a reminder to people that this is a condo...think of it as a condo like where you live...you DO need to buy groceries and do your own cleaning...it is NOT a hotel! The pool was great and just steps out to the ocean with amazing waves to bodysurf or boogie board. The condo was just the right size and the best part are the 2 decks. One deck with chairs and one with the outdoor dining...loved it! Never had any internet issues. We are coming back for Spring Break...can't wait!

Room Tip: We stayed in 5B...it was perfect because it is set back from the access road and entrance.
