We just came back from a one week surf package at Zopiliote and have nothing but good things to say about the experience. Simon Stone and his staff offerred all the support required for the guests to focus on the important things of a surf vacation-surf and relaxation. The meals were of excellent quality and the portions were more than enough to recover from a good day of surfing. They offer a quality surf experience by having a great break, wide variety of boards and excellent surf lessons. Some of the side trips and restaurant reccomendations they made gave us an amazing, unforgettable experiences that we will try to beat in our next trip down. A great trip all around was made better by the camp and its great services.

Room Tip: We stayed in a small rancho bungalow and loved it.

We have visited Zopilote Surf Camp just for 1 week and wished to stay much longer! We were surf-beginners and had a 4-day surf-course which was excellent! The surf conditions suite for nearly every level. The main house is an open 2-storey wooden house the furnishing is really basic and simpel, but absolutely sufficient. You can sleep on an open platform with sea-view(!) or in one of the 3-bed "rooms. There are 2 ranchos that offer a little more privacy. There are 2 shared bathrooms and a spacious common room which opens onto the garden which leads directly to the beach. Breakfast and dinner were always delicious and are included. There are surfboards provided and you can book our stay with or without surflessions. Life at Zopilote was sooo relaxing and easy that i would love to spend a few weeks there regularly!!! Guests mainly came from Europe and were between 20 and 42, a quite good mixture...

I can highly recommend the Zopilote for everybody who wants to enjoy life and surf!!!

It was a bit of a journey to get to Zopilote surf camp from Australia but it was definitely worth it. It is paradise. The beach & surroundings are beautiful, the water is warm & clear, there's wildlife everywhere - monkeys, iguanas, crabs, squirrels, even pelicans flying past while you surf. The house has a great set-up, with everything you need. The beds are comfortable & you fall asleep & wake up to the sound of waves. The food is excellent. I was lucky enough to experience both Bruno & Simon's cooking...hearty & delicious...I had seconds every day! The staff/surf teachers are great - Bruno & Ulli, Simon & Trish, Andre, Erick, Mena, Rena - all lovely & good value. Katerina gives a fantastic massage & is a fascinating person to talk to. Plus I met lots of really nice, interesting, awesome people from all over the world also staying at the camp. It was really fun & motivating to go surfing together. I generally surfed twice a day & there was hardly anyone else in the water. I also went to town quite a bit (either got a lift with staff, rode a bike, shared a taxi or walked) - bought lots of souvenirs & bikinis. You can do as much or as little as you want here. It's so easy to relax. I loved it so much that I kept coming back - stayed 3 times (total 5 weeks) during my 8 week trip. I totally encourage anyone visiting Costa Rica to spend a week or two (or more) at Zopilote Surf Camp.

Other reviews mentioned the camp itself. Was just what I was looking for so just understand it is more of an open camp. Not an air conditioned resort/hotel (humidity and bugs). But the fans and netting sufficed. It is picture perfect what you would expect from this type of setup. Communal area downstairs where you can watch movies, play guitar, sit on the porch and watch the birds, lizards, and sometimes monkeys. Upstairs is an open loft with a row of semi-private rooms behind the open loft.

That said it is extremely well run and the staff was great. Simon is an excellant cook as others have noted and I probably put on weight. Judith is a sunny person who put out the breakfasts every morning.
I took some lessons with Eric who helps out once in awhile when other instructors are not around. He should be doing this full time as he has a great attitude and rapport is easy. He is informational and patient and communicates this very well. I met some great people and would go back.

Amazing surf trip. Booked a last minute trip, having never been to Costa Rica, and lucked out by staying at Zopilote. Great surf, chill vibe, and great people... made a ton of friends. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for an awesome surf trip. Oh and Simon is an amazing cook.
