The Green Rooms
Reviewed 7 January 2014

Dave and Russel are amazing hosts. An oasis from the dusty town and beach clubs but minutes from the beach. Surfed 3 weeks in March and went back for Christmas. I'll definitely be going back. Infinity pool looking into the jungle. Fine cuisine. Great company.

My family and I live scattered across Canada and with a sisters birthday around the corner we decided it was a perfect opportunity to get together. When we decided on Costa Rica The Green Rooms came HIGHLY recommended by several friends. Dave was in constant contact with me about our travel plans sending a taxi to the airport to pick us up from our 11PM flight. Lennon (The taxi driver) clearly knew the roads driving through rivers and along the beach dropping us off safely at Dave's Green Rooms. We arrived around 2am with Dave awake supplying us with a couple of beers to calm down for our travels. The whole property is beautiful with plenty of space to lounge by the pool and cook up a feast in the massive kitchen. We got spoiled with Dave's unbelievable cooking and great company. Dave is extremely knowledgable about the area giving us tons of information local atractions. This trip was fantastic and there is no doubt in my mind that we will return. Onsite friendly animals are a must meet as well, Luna and Kevin will melt your heart and Tiddles wont be far behind for a back scratch.

The Green Rooms is perfect! Great quiet location, just a few minutes walk from both the beach and the main street. All the facilities you need - beautiful pool, well equipped kitchen, new clean shower room. We had a room in the pool house, not the main house. You get the privacy of your own place but can spend time with others in the main house when you want to. Monkeys passed through the garden every day. Dave is so easy going and makes everything easy. He picked us up from the bus stop on his ATV when we arrived and showed us round. He's also an amazing cook! Would definitely return! Thank you Dave!

Room Tip: Pool house is lovely

The Green Rooms was amazing! Located just up the hill from Playa Carmen (past hostel 7). Most other places to stay in Mal Pais/Santa Teresa are very close to the super dusty main road. The Green Rooms is just a few minutes from shops, restaraunts and markets. Dave the owner is an amazing cook, story teller and jack of all trades. He knows all the surf spots and keeps an eye on the best conditions. I spent two weeks here surfing every day. Making meals in the huge open air kitchen/living area. Streaming surf contests on the computer connected to the flat screen TV. Enjoying hot afternoons in the infitity pool or in the hammock just a few feet away from the jungle trees filled with wildlife. I will definitely be staying at the Green Rooms on my next trip to Costa Rica.

Room Tip: There's a separate House/Cabina for rent with full kitchen/bathroom. I stayed in one of the four...

This place is perfect!!! Up a hill, off the main road is an open aired house with the best host we have encountered yet. Upon our arrival, the Host, Dave, showed us around town on the ATV. He set us up with surf lessons, taxis and even had someone arrange to pick us up at the beach down the way when we were done surfing. The rooms are great. Clean, cool, and safe. The open air living room and kitchen were great to lounge around and swap stories with Dave. This place is a perfect mix of jungle and ocean.

we planned a surfing trip for the first part of our honeymoon. i booked a trip through an online agent, got a contact from Dave shortly before our arrival, and Dave picked us up from San Jose.
the place is a small pearl in the woods, just over a small stream, with a very nice pool.
the main advantage is how nice people are! Dave was the best host there is, Russel was a great tutor (we took some surfing lessons)

if you want a small home away from home on you trip to Costa Rica, this is it.

No better a place to experience a mixture of surf and jungle, then to stay at the aptly named ‘green rooms’. Set amongst an impressive back drop of rain forest, a sense of tranquillity and serenity is in abundance here. Located on the southern tip of the Nicoya peninsula, the area surround the Green Rooms is a haven of natural beauty. Located 7 miles north of a wildlife sanctuary, its dense rain forest is teeming with wild life. Whether it be awaking to the sound of howler monkeys or falling off your surfboard in an attempt to dodge the fearless pelicans diving for fish, it is something that soon becomes the norm.
I came to Costa Rica by myself, and in honesty was rather frightened by this. You must understand i am not what you would call the most intrepid of explorers and jetting off to central america with only my surfboard for company is not something i have ever made a habit of! my fears however were put to rest when i arrived at the hotel. I was received with such a warm and friendly welcome i knew instantly this was somewhere i could spend a lot of time!
The "green rooms family" consists of Dave (a man who can fix anything), hannah (a professional surf photographer) and Russ (chef extroadinaire). Yes the hotel is amazing and yes the open plan dining room/kitchen does reach out on to a spectacular jungle view only to be interrupted by the infinity pool, but it is these guys that really make the green rooms a special place to stay and i have nothing but good things to say about it. That's why i'm spending next winter there again, and probably the one after that...
