I love this hotel for many reasons. Lodgings in Santa Teresa and Mal Pais range from dirt cheap to incredibly posh and expensive. But for those of us who seek the middle ground, the experience is a function of (1) service; (2) cleanliness; and (3) location.
First, Marianne and Haim provide excellent service. Did I misconfigure the room safe within five minutes of my arrival? Of course. Did Marianne give me a hard time? Of course not. Instead, she smiled, reconfigured the safe, and explained that it happens all the time. Throughout our stay, Marianne and Haim recommended excellent restaurants, got us the best rate on an ATV (and arranged for it to be delivered to the hotel), and kept us updated on surf conditions. Further, Marianne coordinated our departure shuttle to Monteverde , which saved a lot of time and hassle.
Second, our room was perfect. The A/C worked great, the interior was spotless, and the bathrooms have obviously been renovated recently. The bed was super comfortable, and our front patio had a mini-fridge, plates, silverware, etc. Even the cute little pool on the property is clean, cool, and a great spot to relax in the shade during the hottest part of the day.
Third, we loved the location. Oasis is next to the Mal Pais Surf Camp, which means the path to the beach is across the street! The path drops you at the south end of Playa Carmen. If you like to surf fun mushier waves – like we do – it’s the perfect spot. The swell picked up while we were here, and some guys were still riding their 9’0” longboards without a problem. I switched to a smaller board, but it wasn’t necessary.
The hotel is also within easy walking distance of the Playa Carmen eateries, the ATM, the spot where all the taxis hang out, and the internet cafe. (I am probably the only person left in the world that needs an internet cafe, but it’s there.)
In sum, Hotel Oasis made our time in Santa Teresa easy, comfortable, and fun. This was an easy 5-stars. With a bullet.
