“A pleasant surprise!”
Reviewed 28 February 2014 via mobile

A friend and I stayed here for 6 nights and very much enjoyed our stay! It was our first hostel for our 3 month trip and set the standard. We didn't expect our hostel to have a pool overlooking the Pacific as well as a free breakfast! Great staff who are very friendly and helpful ! Our room was great, met lots of new people who were very considerate! It has a great kitchen and a open hang out area. Note: the kitchen gets very busy so plan ahead when to use it or be ready to wait in line. There's a bus stop right outside the hostel as well as a grocery store right down the street (3mins) and a bank just a little further (5mins). All in all, a great stop! You can easily walk down to the beach but it'd be about a 25 minute walk (a little dangerous at times). However, the bus costs 285 colones (just over 50 cents) and gets you there in about 5 minutes. Definitely recommend this place- great for backpackers!

This hostel exceeded my expectations. It was my first hostel for my 3 month trip and it definitely set the bar for the rest to follow. It has a great outdoor kitchen that is fully equipped, minus an oven. Its decently clean and has three fridges, however, fridge space is limited depending on how busy the hostel is. The rooms are very clean and have tonnes f fans. Bathrooms are decent as well. There is a pool table and really comfy lounge area, as well as a pool with a panoramic view of the pacific. The hostel is right outside the bus stop, and 2 supermarkets and a bunch of restaurants. The beach is a 30 walk, or a 5 min bus ride for less than a dollar. All of this for only 12$ a night! The only negative thing I have to say is regarding one of the managers. He almost charged us double, but I don't think he was doing it deliberately, but he was very sure of himself. When I corrected him, he was very rude and embarrassed to have been obviously corrected. He made fun of me whenever he saw me during my stay..... whatever makes him feel better I guess...?

I stayed here for 1 night (jan 2014). The room was like a prison and the bed basically had a whole rather than a dip in the mattress. It was clear my bedding hadn't been washed and the sheet stank so much that I decided to use my sarong instead.
The bar doesn't do food/ snacks and only serves beer and soft drinks. There was a full blown party outside the doors til 4 am and not one member of staff tried to stop it.
10 other people left after one night as did I - some of if found the great costa Linda backpackers which is two mins away and half the price at 10 dollars a night.
Really, don't waste your time - yes the place as a pool but you are two mins from some of the best beaches on the Pacifics so why bother.

I had no exceptaction when I got there. It is well located, close to the beach. The staff did not help us much, no body there was able to have a full conversation in English. It en it up that we have been told wrong informations about the buses we needed to take on our way to Santa Elena. According to the staff member, we had no choice than go by San José and that was not true at all, we finally lost a day of travel because of this wrong information. Plus, when we got there for the check-in the lady at the reception told us to go get our sheets and linen without showing us where it was. If you want really basic confort cheap price near the beach the place is ok but don't go there if you need help on planning your trip or looking for a confy and calm place because it was not convinient at all. We were suppose to stay there 2 nights but when we saw the welcome we had and the rooms we decided to leave the next morning...

Stayed here three nights, but probably would have moved elsewhere had it not been peak season. The room was ok - basic, but fine - and the pool was nice, as others have said. Unfortunately the internet never worked while we were there (including the computers at the front desk), the hot water was spotty, and breakfast was a tub of leftover pancakes (never figured out when they had been made). Also, the hotel is a very long walk from the beach and park, and from Quepos. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere. Thankfully the bus was easy to catch and cheap, and the restaurant next door, Tipico, was great. Overall, seemed like there were better options in better locations.

The rooms were very clean, there is a swimming pool with a view on the sea, a nice kitchen with a lounge and pool. The girls at the reception were very nice, very helpful!! We had a private room for less than 20$ a night so very affordable and very well located (5 min bus from the beach, 10min from the park).
We recommand to skip the Manuel Antonio park (go to Corcovado instead!!!) but do the tour with rafting where you will see more animals!

Really fun time staying here. So helpful at the front desk, especially when I got into some issues with vouchers at the beach, etc. Clean, fresh rooms. Nice people. If I could do a 4.5 for only lukewarm showers i would, but as is, rounding up.
