“great value in a beautiful setting”
Reviewed 2 May 2010

i stayed in a two-bedroom apartment (the "white apartment") at the falls with my fiancee and three friends for about 5 days. the place was roomy, had a full kitchen, washer and dryer, lots of sunlight and room to entertain. the staff was very friendly and helpful, the continental breakfast was simple but tasty, and they have a mellow little bar. expect to hear and see lots of great animals while staying here (we were entertained one afternoon by a sloth above the swimming pool). walking distance to lots of great restaurants and bars. for what we paid, this was a great deal.

The Falls is a misleading hotel from the street because you just see one face of it, along with the parking spaces, which stretch roughly its length, one car deep. But don't let this be all you discover about The Falls. Once you really enter the grounds you will see it is a lush slice of paradise, tucked up onto the hillside at Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. The grounds and landscaping are the most impressive aspect with lots of green vegetation, trees and a waterfall. Also, the view down to the ocean from the upper tier rooms is excellent. It has the feel of being cozy, relaxed, and off the beaten path. Also, it has character that feels representative of the culture. The pool and hot tub are both set in this lush feeling environment. The room I stayed in (top tier) was very modern and spacious and had obviously been renovated within the recent past.

The staff is very friendly and efficient and I found the people of Costa Rica to be quite kind and gracious. Much more so than say, Mexico, where I own a time share. It's hit or miss there. The people of CR seemed to really care about customer service and whether or not their guests have a nice time or not. It was refreshing.

We stayed at the Falls for three days. The rooms were beautiful and newly renovated, and they opened to a beautiful garden where we experienced some of the local wildlife. The national park is super close. The service at the hotel was great, everyone was super helpful in helping us book tours and in making us feel comfortable. It was very easy to book spa services with them and their massage therapy was heavenly. If I were to be picky, the only downside is the restaurant, which is not great (although I have to say I was raised on excellent Latin food, so I might be biased) and is not open for dinner. However there are many other hotels within short walking distance with great food, which also offer delivery. I was told they were working in making the restaurant to function for dinner too in the near future. Overall, The Falls was a paradise to stay in and I wished I could have stayed longer!

The Falls resort was a surprise. From the front, it's close to the road and didn't look like much. But once you walk through reception you are in a jungle paradise! The gardens are a thick jungle and all of the rooms are secluded within them. We had a standard room, but didn't feel like we were missing anything. Lovely patio with wicker chairs and a hammock. Wooden doors with louvres. The bathroom could use a little updating, but everything worked fine. The first night we were there it poured down rain, so we delayed going out to dinner. While waiting, the bartender noticed a 2-toed sloth climbing on the front railing of the resort, obviously disoriented and confused. We all feared it would try to cross the road and get hit by a car, so the staff attempted to rescue it. They eventually were able to coax it to climb onto a pool cue, then carried it to safety in the resort gardens. Quite an event and the closest we came to a sloth! The staff were wonderfully helpful to the guests too! Hot breakfast is included.

Stayed 6 nights with our two teenagers and had a single deluxe and a double deluxe. The single deluxe has been recently redesigned in a very tasteful elegant decor. The double deluxe was very large but not as new as the other room. Excellent service from everyone in the property. The grounds are very well kept - you feel like you are nestled in the costa rican jungle. My son was feeding the monkeys in the afternoon. I would definitely stay here again!

I did a lot of research before deciding on The Falls. None of the other hotels seemed like a good fit so I made the decision to book this one. Manuel Antonio was nothing like I had pictured before arriving. I thought there was a lot of nothingness with a few hotels and restaurants scattered around. That wasn't the case and it turned out that there is one windy road where most of the places are located. A lot of people had stated that this hotel was too high up and too far from the beach which I actually came to appreciate. It seemed that most of the places by the beach lacked a certain charm and the falls was actually very conveniently located next to a lot of restaurants and other attractions. Si Come No is maybe a 2 minute walk (if that) and El Avion is about a minute in the other direction. We didn't spend too much time at the beach since we focused more on Jet Skiing and White water rafting so proximity to the beach was completely unimportant.

The hotel itself is so quaint and cute!! We were a little put off driving up to it but once we got inside the grounds we were in awe. The vegetation and grounds are very nice and we saw monkeys on our first morning there. The room was amazing! We had the deluxe (18) and it looked exactly like the photos. Very nice and recently updated, the bed was great, nice plasma tv. The only thing I had a complain about was the bathroom door. It looked like those fitting room doors that you can see through- so basically not solid and had no lock so it didn't provide a lot of privacy. But other than that the bathroom was fantastic and there is a large walk in closet where we dumped all of our suitcases and bags so not to clutter the room.

Breakfast is included and though it is not incredibly varied, it was very convenient to eat at the hotel and head out for the day. We didn't eat lunch there but did have a drink on our last night and chatted a bit with the bar tender Mike. I do have to say the bugs in Costa Rica are enormous. I thought a bird had gotten caught in the curtain and pointed it out to the bar tender.. well.. it was a grasshopper. I've never seen anything that big, but it was definitely funny. I was worried about bugs in the room but there were none at all. The bed had a mosquito net but it was unnecessary for us to use.

So we had a wonderful stay, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

The hotel is on the main MA stretch, but there are no views and no part of the property faces the water. The rooms have a good amount of privacy and comfortable and spacious on the inside. The staff is helpful and responsive. The front desk is efficient with setting up activities. The only drawback is that the breakfast does not start early enough if you plan to do the MA national park hike early in the morning.

Anytime we get a review that is not excellent it certainly perks my ears for an opportunity to make changes or improve. I'm afraid not having ocean views is a tough one. You may have noticed we don't advertise ocean views, but our gardens are very well regarded both for their plant variety and the animal life that abounds within. I would like to point out that to those who visit here regularly find our location one of the absolute best. We are in the middle of the greatest number of restaurants and close to the beach without being on the flat land at the beach where the standing water insects are at their worst. This is important to consider when deciding where to stay in Costa Rica. We do appreciate your comments and hope you had a great time in Manuel Antonio.
