Our trip to The Falls at Manuel Antonio was the highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. We arrived with high expectations that were far exceeded by the owners, staff and the property. We had a beautiful room that was modern and roomy with an extremely comfortable bed and pull out sofa for our son. The grounds were exciting with the sloth that lived off of our balcony, the monkeys that visited 3 of our 6 days, and the lizards, frogs and Iguanas that entertained our son all week. The greatest aspect of The Falls is the staff. They became a 2nd family to us. My husband had a medical issue that they arranged for a great doctor and then asked us to stay since he could not fly even though they were closing down for a large group. If you are looking for a stay where you completely relax, enjoy the beauty of nature, and are treated by a hotel staff as if you are family, I know you will enjoy The Falls as much as we did. We felt safe at all times and even let our 11 year old son roam freely around the property. The breakfast each morning, the bar by the pool, the massage therapist, and the beautiful pool and hot tub made being in the common areas so enjoyable. The staff who took care of all our needs were amazing in service, but also became friends. We will not only recommend The Falls to all of our friends, we look forward to many more returns ourselves.

A large group visited CR about a week ago and stayed at this hotel as part of a three day stay that included a birthday celebration. The hotel has a very good location with about a 20 minute drive to Manuel Antonio park and beach. Its also walking distance to several restaurants in the area. The rooms have various set ups and have quite a bit of space. I indicate caution with belongings due to a significant loss of personal property that occurred during the stay.
Management had to be pushed to be responsive. So go and enjoy your stay but please secure your items!!

Greatwater, Owner at Falls Resort at Manuel Antonio, responded to this reviewResponded 29 July 2010

I think it is important that readers get a fair and balanced review of the Falls, so I will do my best to provide a response that serves to clarify comments. First let me say that our simple goal is a to make guests feel like family. I believe we spent dozens of hours in preparation for your group and I thought we had several wonderful conversations (as an owner and host) with you and your family before and during your stay.
In reference to the our city's pride and joy, the Manuel Antonio beach is just over 1 km making it about a 3 minute drive (and maybe a 10 minute walk) and the National Park is just under 2 kms making it about a 5 minute drive and many people walk there as well.
In more than two years as owners of the Falls Resort we have had a total of 0, yes 0 actual incidences of items going missing. Many people choose to use the safes that are provided in the room or our large safe in the office for valuables as it is the smart thing to do in any hotel anywhere. Many still leave their cameras, phones, computers, and wads of cash on the desk in their room as they truly feel at home (though we always suggest to guests, as we did with you, to put any valuables in either your room safe or in the oversized safe in the office).
That being said, I believe we interviewed employees on duty at the time you feel things went missing, and were only told that there were many people coming in and out of your room while the maids were cleaning including family members who were insisting that they finish quickly and leave. In addition to personally taking you to the police station to file a report, we had the police interview the employee you accused. After a long interview, the police said that they were 100% confident that the employee had nothing to do with the items being lost. As this has only been a few days, and the insurance company (government controlled in Costa Rica) has not responded to us how and if they will respond to something missing that was not in a safe, we are still working to resolve the matter. We, as any hotel, cannot set a precedent where a guest can declare a loss without evidence of the item having existed at the hotel (by way of a claim check or broken safe), as it could potentially create a flush of people claiming losses for things that they did not bring or never existed. I believe we treated you like we would our own family in our effort to search for the lost items and in seeking out any potential wrongdoing on the part of hotel staff. I am truly sad to see that after our fairly lengthy and continuing effort to help, you felt it necessary to make hurtful and condescending remarks.
As a fund manager and fiduciary, in addition to being a hotel owner, it is my personal and professional standard to seek the utmost care in the protection of people and the assets for which I am entrusted. Most of the staff has been with the hotel for more than six years and those that have been with us for less time have been duly vetted through interviews with former employers to insure that the calibre of their character was and is of the highest degree. We continue to be so very proud of our staff as they are truly what make us special, and we can only hope that your lost items are found or returned.
Humbly,
Richard Lackey

We just spent 4 days at The Falls and loved every minute. The rooms were comfortable as well as lovely. It was quiet and relaxing. We had an awesome breakfast with great coffee each day at the hotel and walked down to the beach. Richard ,the hotel owner, was very accomodating and knew all of the area activities. He helped us plan and find whatever activity we felt like doing that day. The staff is wonderful, friendly and helpful and made us feel at home. We felt like we were in a 5-star resort in the middle of the jungle.

We stayed here for two nights, and regreted we didn't stay longer. Manuel Antonio is a really nice place and this hotel was the niceset of all the places we stayed on our trip to Costa Rica. The pool and garden is spectacular, and the room was lovely. Our two girls on 7 and 9 years also loved the hotel.

We spent a great week at The Falls. I was more than pleased with every aspect of our stay. The deluxe rooms were clean and comfortable and were actually deluxe rooms. The flat screen tv's were a nice bonus with the World Cup being on. And who can forget the monkeys and other wildlife that called the lush gardens home or just passed thru.
The complementary hot breakfast was a good way to start the day. The friendly staff was able to help us with excursions, great food with views, and would even hold the little one, while I tried to wolf down some gallo pinto. There's so much to do in the area, but it was also nice to just take it easy by the pool/gardens and enjoy a cold Imperial or frozen drink. Overall, The Falls Resort is well worth the price.

My family decided to meet for a reunion down at The Falls Resort this year. We were a little worried about this trip to Costa Rica, because we were travelling with two small children and weren't exactly sure how it would all pan out. I am pleased to say that it was a wonderful fun filled vacation. We stayed at The Falls for six nights in one of the newly refurbished deluxe rooms. The room was amazing! The housekeeping staff did an excellent job at keeping our room spotless..which was not an easy job considering we have a baby and a toddler! The hotel grounds are breathtaking with all of the flora and fauna. There were monkeys in the trees in the late afternoon and we even spotted a sloth high up in one of the trees! The staff here couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. They have many delicious drinks to try at the bar (with and without alcohol). The "monkey juice" is a great choice for kids, and they had countless tasty cocktails for the adults. The hotel will gladly arrange any excursions that you may want to take. One of the tours we took was the nature walk tour through Manuel Antonio's National Park. We saw a lot of wildlife, and even saw two sloths in the trees at eye level! The beach is close by and there are many restaurants to choose from within walking distance. Our faves were Agua Azul and Karola's. El Avion was another restaurant that we enjoyed as well, and it's right across the street. As of when we were there, the hotel wasn't serving dinner, but according to one of the owners they are planning to in the not so distant future. Breakfast is included and they have a good lunch menu if you just want to eat a little something while hanging out by the pool. There are books and dvds that you can grab in the lobby to use while you're there as well, which helped to keep my toddler entertained while we "rested". All in all, the service was great, the room and grounds were beautiful and clean, and there was easy access to anything you may want to do and see in Manuel Antonio and Quepos. The thing I enjoyed the most was sitting out on the balcony with a drink in the late afternoon while watching the monkeys in the trees and talking about our day. This hotel was the perfect place to relax and unwind and not feel like you had to leave the grounds to have an adventure! We WILL be back!

"The Falls" is a small hotel nestled among lush folage. The atomosphere is very relaxing with great views of the gardens from the rooms . The rooms are large with very comfortable beds,a large couch and a small balcony with seating. Check out the pictures on the website The staff is AMAZING. Everyone is exceptionally nice and helpful. Our Spanish is very limited and the communications with the staff was no problem at all. The whole atmosphere is one of privacy and relaxation, not that of a big corp. chain hotel. Within a short distance of plenty of recreational things to do. Best experience we had in a while.
