“Wonderful stay!!”
Reviewed 4 January 2011

We stayed at the Falls Resort for 4 nights and loved it! The hotel is in a great location and walkable to many things. Taxis cost about $6 to go to dinner. There is a bus, but we didn't take it.

The rooms were beautiful- very updated. The best was the bathroom and gigantic shower. The grounds were beautiful.

The best part was the monkeys! So many all over the place in the afternoon.

We had some great meals including lunch at El Avion, Agua Azul, and Sanchos.

Dinner was great at Kapi Kapi, Claro Que Si Restaurant at Si Como No, La Hacienda, and Barba Rojas.

We didn't eat at The Falls, but had daily breakfast. It was great!

Our stay at the Falls was a lot of fun and the perfect location and price. The staff was helpful and friendly too.

The Falls Hotel was absolutely incredible!! The owners were incredibly hands-on, and the staff was warm and friendly. The food was delicious, with a varied menu and creative options. The homemade sweet potato chips and mahi mahi carpaccio were especially fantastic. The garden and pool area felt as if you were in a private rainforest, and a troop of spider monkeys traipsed through daily, along with a few capuchin monkeys once in a while. We were there on our honeymoon, and the staff filled our room with flowers and sweet notes. The next time we go to Manuel Antonio, we will definitely go back for another visit!

I do not have a single complaint about this place. We stayed in cabin #4 which is one of the furthest from the reception/restaurant/bar. The grounds are beautiful and the food was great. The rooms are very luxurious and way more than we expected for the price. The owners are very friendly. They eat breakfast in the same area as all of the guests, which I thought was nice. If you don't have a rental car, take the bus to the beach. There is a bus stop in between the Falls and el Avion.

The Falls Resort at Manuel Antonio is a gorgeous hotel, one that made me say "WOW!" The staff is friendly and polite and our escort graciously showed us to our rooms at night along the winding path. The room was spotless, beautifully appointed, and very spacious. I felt like a queen in my own private suite. And the price for the rooms was very reasonable.

My complaints about the hotel are1) the extremely hard beds. Even with a sleeping pad I had trouble being comfortable. 2) The winding path to the rooms. It's very scenic with beautiful plants and waterways, but it's difficult to take your suitcases over all the steps. And 3) there was a hammock tied across the entrance to our room. Nice to lie in but it would have been nicer if it moved aside out of the way.

We didn't have a chance to try out their restaurant and the delicious-sounding menu. Next time perhaps.

Thank you much for your review. Originally being from Atlanta and having spent years renovating antebellum homes we understand that the details are what make a place special. Each year we try to complete some major improvements. This year we completely renovated and expanded the Standard Suites and launched our new fusion restaurant. This coming year we are hoping to put solar panels on all of our roofs as our primary energy source. The beds in all suites were one of the first things we replaced. After months of research and testing we decided on the same mattresses as the Ritz Carlton. Ironically, we get at least one or two compliments per week on how comfortable the beds are and have concluded that they were one of our best purchases to date. I know that everyone likes something different, but this is the first time we have heard something negative about the beds. We are, however, working on plans to widen the paths and make them more level, but will probably do this at the same time we add in the grotto and new waterfall feature. Hammocks are only in front of the Standard Suites and they have large hooks on either side so that you can lift the ring and put it to the side. We will make sure to mention that to folks from now on as we introduce them to their Suites. Thank you for coming and please visit us again. Warm Regards,
Richard

The deluxe room we stayed in was very modern and clean. There were a few insects and one gecko that managed to get in possibly through the gap between the window in the bathroom and the wall or maybe when the room was being cleaned. The bed was very comfortable, the staff was nice and the breakfast that was included was good although the selection is not large. There is no hairdryer in the room, but one can be requested. Also, it was nice to have a selection of DVDs to borrow if you wanted to stay in. My only major complaint is that hot water in the shower was not consistent; it would sometimes get cold and it was not terribly hot.

The rooms, the grounds, the amenities...and without a doubt, the staff, made my stay at The Falls a memorable experience. Super clean, well-appointed rooms. The food at the new Garden Cafe is really good, from part-buffet, part full-service breakfast to the best fine dining dinners around. Artfully and tastefully prepared, and priced moderately.

My Spanish is not very good, however the kind, dedicated staff were always willing to practice with me. The open-air restaurant and bar really is in a garden, complete with monkeys, parrots and sloths right outside.

Some of the English-speaking owners live close by. They are super helpful and available. I enjoyed meeting a number of international travelers. Sleeping in this quiet environment was a treat. Overall, a completely relaxing and enjoyable stay.

By far, one of the best things that ever happened to Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica is The Falls Hotel! The owners are on site. They and the staff are super friendly and helpful. We felt safe and very comfortable on the hotel property.
That being said, driving in a rental car from San José proved challenging and at times.... dangerous. We loved Costa Rica but would certainly think twice about ever going again to Manuel Antonio. To fellow travelers who choose to make the journey, we would recommend the short and inexpensive flight from Pavas Airport in the capital to the small airport in Quepos. No real need for a rental car, as public transport from the hotel to the nature park is very well organized and right out in front of the hotel.

William,
Thank you for you warm comments. I do like to use these comments as an opportunity to further assist travelers, so I will add some notes to your comments. The drive from San Jose is different depending on the weather. When there are heavy rains, there are often flooded creeks and other things that can impede your travel. This year was a bit unusual as we had the worst storms in 25 years. That being said, it is always a good idea to have a contact phone so that you can call someone in case you get stuck. If driving in new areas is a stress for you, remember that there are shuttles, and buses going to and from Manuel Antonio several times per day. Having traveled the country extensively, I think most people feel that they would have missed a great deal had they not been to Manuel Antonio. Please feel free to use our reception team as your safety net. You can reach us in country at 2777-1115. As far as airports, I agree that the 24 minute flight is a great way to go as it is like a tour itself and the planes are new and quite safe. It is important to note that there are two airports to launch from in San Jose. Typically people flying into the international airport, Juan Santamaria (SJO), prefer Sansa as their terminal is just outside and a short walk around the corner whereas Nature Air leaves from Pavas which is about 15 minutes by car or taxi which takes some extra time and money. If you are staying overnight in San Jose before coming to Quepos/Manuel Antonio you may find that Pavas is closer to the large mall (Multiplaza) and some of the better shopping (Escazu and Santa Ana). I hope this is helpful. Thanks again WIlliam.
