We just returned from a wonderful stay at Hotel Plaza Yara. I can't recommend it highly enough- it was immaculate, with spacious, beautiful rooms, comfortable beds, and an enormous bathroom with a shower large enough to fit a small football team! Loved the staff - thank you Javier and Nelson - always eager to help, and full of great suggestions. Breakfast was huge, we didn't need to eat again until supper. Nearby bus stops took us to MA or Quepos for $1. I wanted a place to stay where I could see wildlife from the hotel, and wasn't disappointed. On the 3 afternoons I sat out by the pool, twice had groups of monkeys closeby, swinging through the trees, and on the last day, a sloth! We watched him traveling from branch to branch and got some great movies and pics. The hotel is just minutes away from MA by bus, so we spent a few days there swimming and nature observing. The only criticism ( and this is not the hotel's fault ) is that you are unable to walk anywhere due to the narrow roads, and fast cars going by. As I said, however, the bus stop was close, and convenient. We even observed monkeys while waiting for the bus! This hotel provides value, beauty, and a staff who all seem happy to be there, as well as a beautiful gift shop. If we return to this area, we will certainly stay here again!

Good little new hotel between Quepos and Manuel Antonio. Large, clean, well appointed rooms with kitchenette, great for our family of four. There is a small shaded pool and a separate spacious eating area where breakfast (great!) was served. The staff were friendly and helpful, they answered our questions and gave us some good tips and helped us with booking a guided tour of the park. A tip on rooms, our room included a separate room that served as kitchenette and seating area, it was fully glassed with screened windows. I think it was a little more spacious than some of the rooms but we would have preferred a balcony (none of these rooms were available) for sitting outside in the evenings, so ask for this specifically if it's important to you. And also specify if you want to be close to the pool, although the hotel is small the layout is a little disjointed as far as proximity of some of the rooms to the pool. Also of note to families staying there, the hotel is situated on a curved section of the very busy main road with no sidewalks and very little room to walk on either side. Although there are restaurants and a bus stop close by, I was a little leery of walking so close the road at night with small kids. We used the flashlights on our phones so we were visible to cars. Overall, this hotel was definitely good value for the money (although after being there and seeing some of the beautiful views to be had, may splurge for a hotel with a view next time!)

Found this to be a perfect fit for a family of 4 in MA. The accommodations were good and there wasn't a minimum night stay and the price was very reasonable. The rooms are huge as everyone has mentioned - ours had a queen and two twins. There was also a refrigerator along with a separate sitting area for our room. The shower was big and the water pressure was great....every place we stayed in CR had a big shower, must be the norm there?? The soap and shampoo they provide wasn't very good but that was the least of my concerns. The hotel has a small pool - nothing fancy but it worked great as a place to come back to and relax before getting ready for dinner. The hotel is right up against the rain forest which makes for some good "creature" watching....we mainly saw large iguanas and tree frogs but other people said monkeys sometimes come around. We were able to get the wifi signal in our room and at the pool :-) The rooms have a/c, a small a safe and a tv (which we didn't use). The rooms are pretty quiet as there was a live band at a restaurant next door and I could barely hear the music in our room without the a/c on. Our room was the closest to the restaurant too. I would stay here again.

This was a great place to stay. Our kids are 6 & 10. The room was huge and quiet. The pool is small but big enough for 2 kids to jump into and shady for most of the afternoon. The Hacienda restaurant next door is nice, open air, and has plenty of choice. (Go before 7 p.m. when the live music starts if you want quiet!) Riding the local bus to Man Ant and Quepos was easy and fun. A bunch of squirrel monkeys came one afternoon. They were around the pool, in the trees, on the roof, in the dining area... the staff brought us bananas to feed them! It was fabulous. Jonathon was always around to answer questions. We really enjoyed Plaza Yara.

Early March I stayed here. It was simply wonderful. It is a charming, professional, and very clean hotel. Javier paid attention to every detail and often went above and beyond expectations. The rooms are spacious each with their own shape and own character (went with a large group of friends so we were able to see most of the rooms). The rooms and grounds are nicely kept. (another post states that they need to provide deeper cleaning - I did not find that to be the case). My stay was extra special as Javier was very knowledgeable about the history of the artwork that is for sale in their art gallery. I bought a beautiful painting and I know about the life of the artist. Although the pool is small, you can look up and see the forest and it served its purpose - to cool off in between our active schedule (visiting the national park which is close by; and, the catamaran ride with snorkeling). The view from the bedroom balcony still lingers in my memory. A special thank you to Javier, the cleaning crew, and all those that made it a wonderful vacation.

Room Tip: Room 1 is real nice as it is a corner with a balcony. I liked the inside of 2 (my room) with a very nice balcony. 3 is good for a family as it has a big bed and then two twins. 6 is very large if thats what you are look for but it doesn't have a balcony - but it is on the ground floor if you have trouble with climbing stairs.
