I had the fortune to stay at Vista Oceana with 8 other friends. This house is stunningly beautiful, and the surrounding jungle is breathtaking. Every morning I woke to the sounds of the surf, birds and at times, a nice rain. Everything about Vista Oceana was exceptional -- from arrival to departure.
I cannot say enough about our concierge Jorge. He arranged every aspect of our wonderful vacation, and guided us with suggestions on restaurants and excursions we wanted to do on our own. He met with us when we wanted to, he left us alone when we needed to do that, and responded very quickly to every email and phone call. Exceptional service. In terms of service, our maid Sylvia and the pool/groundskeeper Nelson we very friendly and accommodating.
The property itself is beautiful. Locals call it Casa Roja because of it's bright red color. The gated courtyard contains a fountain, and all the floors are lovely tile. As you walk in your breath is taken away by the beautiful view of the Pacific ocean.
Each master suite was spacious and comfortable. We stayed in the suite that is off the living room -- three steps up and very nice! The upstairs suites were equally nice, as well as the semi-detached 2-story guest house (perfect for kids!) by the pool and the lovely "jungle room" suite that is off of the courtyard (super private).
My happy place was the pool -- a gorgeous infinity pool with a swim up bar and a view to die for. I spent many hours in the pool socializing with friends and monkeys. Nelson does a great job of keeping the pool sparkling clean.
The kitchen is well appointed. As a home chef, the knives were not up to my standard, but heck I was on vacation. There is a dishwasher and microwave, and a spacious refrigerator and pantry. There is a secondary mini-fridge by the outdoor grill that is great for beer and water. The big island made food prep easy for our crowd. You have things like serving bowls, cutting boards, all the dishes you need, can openers, wine openers -- everything. There wasn't anything I needed to prepare and cook. It was great. There are some seasonings and such but it is a good idea that if you are going to cook, check out what you may need and augment. We cooked in a lot (you can't beat that view), and it was a good experience.
On the 3rd floor is what we were calling the "birds nest". Up there with a palm style roof were several chairs and 2 hammocks. The views -- OMG was stunning. We would go up there to just hang out or read, and it was blissful.
So here are some hard facts -- the A/C is great, the outlets are just like ours, you don't need to know a lot of Spanish, you can use dollars AND the local currency Colones (but everywhere took dollars), and the roads are SUPER steep. If you aren't used to walking up steep inclines, get some practice in. It is worth it. The water is safe to drink, and I couldn't find half and half for my coffee anywhere. :( There are so many folks from the US that live there, so you are bound to run into someone that can help you navigate the grocery store (in my case) or the bus with no problems. Everyone is super friendly! One in our group rented a car, and it was great to have, but the roads are steep, twisty, there are no guardrails, and all the signs are in Spanish. Local transport is reasonably priced and available as an alternative to renting a car.
The public beach is a 10 minute walk from Vista Oceana. The walk is very nice and you get to see some lovely plants and homes. The beaches are stunning, and you can rent chairs and an umbrella for around $10 a day on the public beach. Totally worth it.
There are several nice bars and restaurants that are walking distance to the house. You can also take a bus into Quepos for 55 cents and visit the shops and restaurants there. You won't go hungry! Jorge also has the option of bringing in a chef to cook for you, but we chose not to do that. If you love seafood, you will love it here.
I know it sounds like I am gushing over Vista Oceana -- but it is worth every penny. It is an upscale, beautiful home with stunning views and located in the perfect spot. The service is exceptional, all the way from the generous fruit basket in the kitchen to the lovely flower arrangement in the dining room, to the personalized, friendly service by Jorge. Highly recommended.
My husband and I were fortunate to find Vista Oceana and did not want to leave. The ocean view from every bedroom and living area is incredible. The monkeys that sweep by to play by the pool or in the hammocks are hilarious. The toucans are so colorful and fun to see up close when they land by the windows and knock on them with their beaks. The macaws' are constantly flying over as you enjoy the infinity pool and gorgeous ocean view. The accommodations are great and so is the staff. Sylvia is wonderful and keeps everything sparkling clean. Waking up and going to sleep to the sounds of the ocean waves breaking on the beach below is wonderful!! This place has 7 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms and can easily sleep 18 people comfortably. I cannot wait to come back with family and friends. Talk about paradise, I believe we found it! Oh, I forgot about the fresh fruit beautifully arranged on the kitchen island and the flower arrangements on the table for 8 out by the pool and on the dining table with bird of paradise and other native flowers adding to all this beauty. I miss the sunsets and everything about this place. We have traveled to many countries and vacation areas but none has equaled the comfort and beauty we found here.
We stayed at Vista Oceana for several nights as a large group. The back yard has an infinity pool with a spectacular view of the ocean and the Manuel Antonio national park. I was overwhelmed with anticipation just driving up to the house! The house is spacious, and has 3 kitchens with the refrigerators. We visits from the jungle animals every day! We saw sloths, spider and howler monkeys, iguanas, toucans, and more - as much wildlife at the Villa as at the national park. The staff was wonderful also! They are available 24/7 by phone. Silvia, the maid, was there early every morning to clean! We had a chef cook for us and it was wonderful!
The villa is perfectly located in the center of Manuel Antonio, with convenient access to tours, restaurants and venues. The national park is about a mile away, and you can take the beach most of the way if you decide to walk. If not, you can take a taxi or bus. The national park has a beautiful jungle with great beaches. It is unsurprisingly the most popular tourist destination in Costa Rica. There are many other activities and excursions available in the area, including snorkeling, scuba diving, deep sea fishing, parasailing, night tours of the national park.
We particularly enjoyed the privacy that having the entire property gave us, at the same price of a hotel. We all look forward to our next trip, and this is definitely where we plan to stay!
All I can say is thank you!! What an incredible experience!! We leased the villa from past experience in Manuel Antonio, we had seen the house on our last trip. And we knew we had to stay at that house the next visit! And we did, WOW! That house is amazing! The best ocean views ever! There was 13 of us total, the elders stayed in the downstairs rooms, kids in the guest house! Perfect! We saw more wildlife at Vista Oceana then we did in Manuel Antonio National Park! Everyday there was monkeys and Toucans, the Toucans were knocking on the windows every morning! And these Toucans have the black dot on their chests, very odd! The Howler monkeys were stunning, they visited 3 different times! The maid and the maintenance man are amazing and very helpful! The Chef was incredible and the food was better than the restaurants we ate at! We went on many tours, the National Park, Zip line, and my favorite was the parasailing!! Again, thank you for a great time! We will be back next year, and we will stay at Casa Vista Oceana every time!! Awesome villa!! Jake
