What a gorgeous casa… and the views over the jungle… and the ocean right there… and the beautiful sunsets… it was all so incredible!
We have traveled to Costa Rica in the past and this time we wanted to stay in Manuel Antonio. Our casa was private, clean, and in perfect condition. We were so impressed with the hospitality of our host and how friendly they were. They set up everything for our perfect vacation so we didn't have to do a thing… not even cook or wash dishes! The listing photos did not compare to how beautiful this property was. I understand that the owner just added some new furniture, so we were surprised to see the beautiful new dining table that was not yet posted in the photos. All our questions were answered before we left the states and everything that we discussed was taken care of before we arrived at the casa. Angie met us at the casa and helped show us around – we really appreciated her time. Then she helped us arrange all our activities – tours, sun, beaches, great food, horseback riding, and zip-lining. This casa is clean, safe and absolutely beautiful. Thank-you for welcoming us into your casa for our perfect vacation.
Our family of 13 (ages 5-73) just completed a wonderful and fun filled week while staying at Casa Tolteca. Michael and Thomas were very accommodating with our pre-planning. Angie, our concierge, we like to say was our guardian angel with tons of helpful hints and suggestions. The staff who maintains our casa were very friendly and professional. We had no issues all week. We chose to dine in three nights and in hindsight we should have opted for all seven nights because our meals were outstanding as prepared by our fabulous chef Rambo and his wonderful wife Tice. From soup to nuts we had gourmet meals. Their friendliness and thoughtfulness are memories that will stay forever.o
The house was just what the pictures show, private, close to everything you need, beautiful with lush surroundings. Each of our 4 families found their choice of rooms very spacious. Casa Tolteca was exactly the place for our special week and when we return to Costa Rica we know where we will be staying.
Our business group of six couples stayed seven days at this property located in Manuel Antonio. Our stay was beyond phenomenal. We can only begin to describe our incredible experience.
Casa Tolteca was selected so we could see as much of Manuel Antonio and Costa Rica as possible. The bedrooms were clean, comfortable, as well as private for each individual couple. The main kitchen area was well equipped and comfortable to work in. The main great room on the top floor served as our meeting point for everyone everyday.
The open-air veranda around that surrounds the great room was an exceptional location (day or night) to read, siesta, and watch sunsets.
The large pool area was surrounded by rainforest and gave the perfect location for daily monkey visits. The wildlife that surrounded the house was truly incredible.
Thomas and Angie took care of all our tours and excursions. They were also happy to provide chef services to prepare delicious meals. The chefs were indescribably fantastic and prepared the best food we had in town.
The owner of the property was diligent to meet our every need. He owns many homes in town and we would not have any hesitation reserving Tolteca or any of his homes in the future.
Our visit was during the dry season which was quite hot. We actually would like to try Manuel Antonio again in July or August when it is not as hot and there is more rain.
The beauty of the beaches, mountains, and National park that make up Manuel Antonio is just impossible to adequately describe. The photos and descriptions you see of Tolteca on VRBO do not do the home justice. The beauty, marvelous accommodation, and perfect location of Tolteca. Our entire group felt welcome, at ease, and at home during the entire stay. While this was a business trip, I am ready to return with my family soon. We would recommend this property to friends or family or anyone interested in a perfect vacation at the perfect home.
I don't know where to start! We've rented many houses for our family vacations but this was the most amazing place we've ever stayed. There were 17 of us yet we all had our own very comfortable, cool space. The kids and adults really enjoyed the partially shaded pool. We were entertained by Monkeys, iguanas, Toucans and various animals. Angie helped us plan adventures and was a sweetheart. Rambo and his lovely wife prepared a delicious meal the first night which was wonderful!
We ate at several places within walking distance and ordered pizzas one night! We did our own breakfasts and lunches as there is a fully equipped kitchen so many
strawberry and pineapple daiquiris were consumed (by the adults)! We did tours of Manuel Antonio Park, zip lined, went 4 wheeling, snorkeled, and body surfed at 3 different beaches. At the end of the day it was all about this remarkable house and pool! I really believe this is the best spot in all of Costa Rica!
We will be back!!!
The property is exactly as described -- it's beautiful, secluded with plenty of room for more than 10 people. Arrival was easy as we called 15 minutes before we showed up and Angie, the concierge, was there to meet us. Angie was great in responding to all of our questions and helping us arrange meals, excursions and any other activity we asked about.
The location is about 1 mile from Manuel Antonio and the nearest public beach, close to restaurants and within walking distance of a grocery store. The views are stunning with the ability to watch a sunset while sitting on the terrace or in the family room or kitchen of the main part of the house. There are four living areas, each with their own kitchen (albeit of different sizes) and a pool in the middle. We had two families of five and it was more than enough room. You will see wildlife right outside the door. Throughout the week, we saw all three types of monkeys -- squirrel monkeys coming right up to the railing, whitefaces looking down from the roof and even a howler monkey crawling surreptitiously in the trees. There is a monkey bridge right outside the entrance which attracts many to the area. We also were visited by a large iguana several times.
We were able to zip line, take a tour of Manuel Antonio and the Rainmaker using Henry from HP Tours, recommended by Angie. He was great, knowledgable, friendly and great with children. Any activity will pick you up right outside the property, so there is no need for a car. SJO is about a 2 1/2-3 hour drive away but transportation can be arranged rather easily.
We used the personal chef services four times and it was incredible. Rambo and his wife are great in the kitchen making anything you asked for. The last day he made fresh caught snapper fried with panko and coconut and a mango chile sauce, which is not on the menu. With leftovers, we were able to make those several meals stretch out and enjoy homemade cooking more than a couple of times. They also clean up and put away the leftovers, which is an added bonus.
Overall, it was exactly what was expected, couldn't have been better. Highly recommended.
There is no doubt that this will be one of the longest reviews I've ever written and it will fly in the face of other reviews. I have been coming to Quepos for the last five years and almost rated this property a 2 to get your attention.
There's no doubt that the location of this property is brilliant. The location is a 5; the rest pulls it down. It is close to all the amenities and the bus stop is outside your door. The road noise is minimized because the property has a long steep staircase down to enter into it.
In addition to location, the pros are some of the staff: Angie as the concierge and especially Marisol/Israel as the cooks (should you contract them). They are prompt, very pleasant to deal with, quick to answer any texts and helpful for bookings. They are great people to work with.
The cons are:
1. We were a group of 10 and I would hate to see anyone try and put even 14 people into this property comfortably. There are only four gate keys for the entire property so if you have a group that tend to disperse, you will have to be texting and planning how to allow yourself back in. Some gate keys cannot be detached from the doorkey which keeps the power/plumbing on in that floor. So, no showers or power if the one gate key for your floor is gone.
2. Don't be surprised if people come and go in your unit without your permission. We arrived home on our second last day to find the owner and team building furniture in our living space and in our bedrooms without notification. The owner did not seem to think this required notification for the tenants.
There were other little annoying things but they show a pattern: The shower in the casita was nonfunctional, bring your own shampoo, one of the coffee pots was broken, and the handle fell off the oven. For a property like this, there were an inadequate number of glasses for our group (wine in mugs it was). The Internet did not work and the list goes on. However, we were able to deal with all these issues and fix what was important. Be your own advocate and call them every time there is an issue. When we told the owner about some of the above he made it seem like it was our fault.
If you have not been to Costa Rica before, this does not reflect the level of service you can come to expect for a property that charges over 8000 USD per week. The rates listed on the summary do not reflect the final rates that are charged.
The house has a lovely open living room/kitchen area with lots of windows which afforded beautiful views out toward the ocean. The entire property was clean and very well kept up. The rent included maid services daily. It was an easy bus ride to get to the beaches.
