“Basic is quite an understatement”
Reviewed 1 October 2013

To say that this place is very basic is quite an understatement. True, it's cheap, but still what the traveler gets is a bad smelling room, a bed with a 'mattress' which is basically inexistent and an impression that the floor hasn't been cleaned ever since. The restaurant is good though, with nice food at good a price, and the waiters are friendly.Location is good to, but even though, I wouldn't stay there again.

From the street the facility looks very appealing, and the restaurant and reception area are pretty decent. It is conveniently located about half way between the town center and the national park gate. I asked for a cheap dorm bed but got "upgraded" to a small windowless private room with a fan that felt like a simulated jail cell (LOL!!!!), but hey it was *cheap* and works for me. Great free wi-fi in the restaurant and reception area but does not work reliably inside the room. The restaurant had great meals and very reasonable prices and they have a fantastic breakfast deal for US$4. But what got me was the incredible stench in the shared men's bathroom, and it wasn't just the usual unflushed urinal smell, but more like a dead body was buried and rotting in there. The showers, if you can call it that, was just a hard stream of air temperature water, one tap, on or off, no hot or cold. Overall I'd say it's a decent facility and recommend it but hold your breath while you pee fast and hold your nose while taking a fast shower!!!

Room Tip: Hold your nose and try to breathe through your mouth only while using the shared men's bathroom.

We stayed there for two nights on their off season. It was 10 bucks a person. It was good for what we needed which was afordable. It did not have hot water and restrooms are kind of small. It in a GREAT location close to the National Park and the Beach.

We spent 2 days here after looking around the town and finding this was the cheapest place to stay. The rooms are basic, beds not very comfortable and can get to hot in the rooms with only a little fan to cool us. The Internet and wifi were down on our first night and the staff didn't seem to care much about helping to fix this.

We didn't eat at the restaurant as the prices seemed a little on the expensive side again.

This hostel is cheap but very basic. It is in a great location for the Manuel Antonio National Park and beach (both are walkable). The restaurant at the hostel is great and meals are very affordable (especially breakfast). But the hostel itself needs work. No locks on the door, poor wifi, run-down rooms and dirty bathrooms. It's great for those who don't want to spend too much time in the actual hostel but are on a budget.

You get what you pay for, and this is definitely cheap at $12 per person.

The negative: The rooms are small, and contain nothing but a bed and a night-table. We switched from the first room we got because it smelled faintly like urine, and got a different room... which also smelled. We got used to it. There were streaks on the wall, and some small glass panes missing. The communal bathrooms were the worst on our entire trip in terms of smell and there is no hot water.

The positive: The restaurant offers excellent and relatively cheap meals (especially breakfast for four dollars, loaded with food), the staff are friendly and the location is simply unbeatable, just five minutes walk to the Manuel Antonio park entrance. This place could be so much better if the owners invested in some renovation, particularly the toilets and the walls.
