Hotel Casa Blanca was sold in August of 2011. On the internet they call themselves "Vista Rentals" [--]. They are still known in Manuel Antonio as Hotel Casa Blanca. They advertise on Craigslist.
They have a good location at the top of the hill and pretty grounds with gardens and two pools. The rooms need major updating and repairs. The furniture is old and is full of wood eating beetles that leave piles of sawdust everywhere. Rather than replacing a washer to stop a bad leak in the bathroom sink, they simply turned off the hot water.
There is no way to communicate in either direction from the lower level where my apartment was located. Cell telephone service does not work and they removed the landline telephones. Although they assured me that they provide wifi in the rooms, I had to purchase and configure my own repeater router in order to use the internet. Sometimes the cable tv worked, sometimes it did not. This was particular to this location, not a general cable tv problem in the area.
After severe problems with sexual harassment including requests for sex and being threatened that he “would get his way one way or another” while wearing weapons by Tom the onsite manager, I found a new apartment where I thought I could be safe. After another bad incident at my new apartment complex the location of which was supposed to be secret, I fled the entire area in less than an hour, literally terrified for my personal safety. A police report was filed.
Indra Levy arranges the rentals and sets the prices from an office in Escazu. She did not respond to my initial inquiries until I reached her via phone and then seemed cool but professional with competitive pricing. She repeatedly promised that a written version of our agreement would arrive "soon." It never did. During my stay there she never returned a call or an email.
Indra was solicitous regarding the circumstances of my departure and promised return of all unused rental funds, but when the funds did not arrive she was very rude and denied ever having the conversation. Although the agreed terms included a seven day notice to vacate, the problems with their onsite manager occurred early in the month, and Indra's initial promise to return all unused rent due to the circumstances, she chose instead to keep the entire month's rent and now insists they are not responsible for the safety of their guests.
