“New Suites are Awesome - The Food not so Good”
Reviewed 9 February 2009

We just stayed in the new suites and I must say that they are pretty amazing. Beautifully decorated room with a 42 inch plasma. The view from our balcony was incredible. The bed was soft, yet firm... the way I like it.

The staff was great at the hotel, everyone was very friendly.

Improvements the hotel should make:

The Food... Breakfast was really good, but its hard to mess up breki unless you do not care. All other meals were not that great at all. You can tell they were somewhat trying.... however all the food had no flavor and was boring. My advice is to hire a very good executive chef to fix the problem. When you charge $400/night, I expect much more for food offerings. Also, get rid of the tico ketchup that tastes like bbq sauce. Your 99% foreign clientel expects Heinz.

Front Desk... They only had 1 check-in clerk for Friday and Saturday that we were there. The kid is very nice and works very fast, however he looks like he is 12 years old. This is the first face that your guests see when they come to your resort.... maybe you want your appearance to go more after the luxury crowd you are now going after.

Improvments to the Suites: The rooms did not have a hotel directory, wine opener or wine glasses. You have a mini-bar with 2 bottles of wine in it. At $400/night this is expected. Everything else was perfect. I absolutely loved the way you decorated the suites.

I highly recommend the new suites in the new building. We are seasoned travelers with very high standards and when we made our reservations the suites (which are more expensive) were the only rooms available. Lucky for us because they're beautiful.and well worth the difference. Spectucular views, private jacuzzi, enormous room with a lovely bathroom, plasma tv.

Our friends were in a standard room and were very disappointed. The room was adequate but very tired.
The hotel itself is lovely, buffet breakfast is very nice and the staff couldn't be friendlier and more helpful. The hotel is at the end of a very bumpy, unpaved road. After a couple of days it starts to wear on your nerves. The cabs back and forth to restaurants are approx. $8-10 one way.

I will definitely visit again when the road is paved.

My husband and I took our three children- ages 14, 12, 10 to this beautiful hotel. We stayed in the new wing. We were the first people to stay there and the only ones for about 3 days. The rooms were beautiful and modern. There are jacuzzis on the patios, with gorgeous views of the ocean and grounds. The pools were great, especially the one in the new wing, where we spent our free time. At night it lit up different colors. We spotted monkeys crawling on the fence to the tennis courts and iguanas from the pool. There is plenty of wild life in this location. One afternoon the Howler monkees came through the trees and another morning I was awakened by their howling. At dinner a raccoon and something that looked like a porcupine came to visit. They were both shooed away. It was entertainment for all to see. The food was very good. It always took a while to get the bill. The staff was very helpful, whenever we needed suggestions where to eat off grounds or different tours to take. If you didn't want to walk from our wing of the hotel, there was always someone to take you on a golf cart. We loved this place!

  • Liked — The rooms and the scenery
  • Disliked — Rooms not connected and waiting for bill at restaurant

Beautiful hotel and setting, but beauty ends there. No beach, adult swim area was locked, no whirlpool--only at spa for $$. Food was expensive slow and overrated--each meal we experienced a major substitution without explainations or concern. We were tired of so few workers that knew usable English--lots of awkward smiling but at those prices--the deceptions were not worth it. Too expensive anywhere--much less in Costa Rica.

  • Liked — beautiful setting

This hotel was beautiful upon arriving but getting there was rough the road is never ending and it costs 15.00 each way of you want to go out of the resort. The first room we were assigned to smelled so bad like mildew that when the bellman came to get our bags and move us to a new room he covered his nose and mouth (scary) The foo there was over priced but fairly good but I would reccomend seeking out other options. Great pools and beautiful property just not near much that you can access without a car. I will stay at a different property when we return

One of the nicest hotels I've stayed in 5 visits now to CR... lovely, with great views, 2 pools and a 3rd for adults only, beautiful sunsets, great service, great monkey trail where (at the right time of day) you can watch over 50 monkeys pass by.. good food (european, tico or latin american), with private dining room, open seating or deck where racoons and other animals wait by the restaurant for inattentive tourists to leave food unattended (so one employee is posted to scare them off, since they are in tune with the wildlife, and don't do anything more aggressive)... spa is very good, with great services... problem is the place is at the end of a point, (which is on a miserably maintained road, but the best luxury hotels are all on that same road). which affords great views, luxury, quiet and serenity, but means you can't possibly walk to town or nearby village... so, though the hotel runs a shuttle during the day, if you really want to get out, you have to take taxi s everywhere... can't think of a better place for honeymoon... and staff and other visitors are lovely... but if you want to be close to the action, this isn't the place to be...

  • Liked — food, safety, quality, location, views, quiet, staff really wonderful,
  • Disliked — out of the way

When my daughter announced that she was getting married my family was elated. She then told us she wanted to get married in Costa Rica. I thought how in the world will I ever pull this off. Well let me say that after I contacted Carolina Illera Gomes at the Hotel Parador all of my worries were put to rest. Carolina and her staff took care of everything. All we had to do was show up and enjoy ourselves. My daughter had so many questions and Caronlina answered them all even some twice!!! The hotel location was beautiful. The hotel over looks the Pacific Ocean and was the most spectacular backdrop for wedding pictures. The hotel property was very well maintained with lush tropical vegetation everywhere. The rooms were spacious and very clean. We did not take advantage of the activities desk but there was someone there at all times to help you. We did use the free hotel shuttle to go to Manuel National Park. The Restaurants at the hotel are a good value for your money. My husband and I shared a club sandwich at the El Galeon Pool Bar and it was by far bigger and better than anything we have here in the US. The cost of the sandwich, slaw, and fries was $11.00 plus tax and it filled us both. We had dinner in the El Quijote Restaurant one night and there again the food exceeded our expectations. I cannot say enough about the breakfast buffet. There was everything from traditional Costa Rican and American dishes to an omelet and egg station with all the "fixens". We will be going back to Costa Rica again and will be staying at the Hotel Parador. I highly recommend this property for all types of travelers.
