“Perfect choice for our 40th Anniversary -- or for any time!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 December 2010

After an embarrassing number of hours spent on researching the perfect trip to celebrate our 40th anniversary, I finally decided on a week in a home in Costa Rica and then 3 nights at La Mansion. Now that the trip is over the only mistake I made was not enough days at La Mansion. It is clearly one of our favorite hotels we have stayed in the world. The Presidential Suite was the largest and most luxurious hotel room anywhere with a view from the room and balcony that was breathtaking. It had two full beautiful baths and a gorgeous jacuzzi tub in the bedroom with bay windows to see the spectacular scenery. The bedroom was enormous, as was the living room. It had its own private entry to the pool area. The service throughout the hotel was outstanding and extremely nice and friendly, which is basically how the Costa Rican people are everywhere. The breakfasts we had each morning were extremely good and served in a beautiful area. The hotel provided a shuttle service which was less expensive than taxis and very convenient. The pool was not large but large enough and in an exquisite setting with amazing landscaping and view of the Pacific. Then the big surprise is a terrace a few steps up from the pool where you actually get 2 of the most amazing views anywhere. What a treat to look in 2 directions and get 2 totally different views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding forests and jungles. The 2 kinds of monkeys visiting us were a treat, also.
We went to a closeby small casino at night, Byblos, just for something to do. It served its purpose. We also checked out the casino in Quepos, which I would not recommend. Actually, you need to be cautious when travelling around at night, as you would in most places.
The only thing that would have enhanced our stay would be internet access in our room. There was a separate room you could use a computer or use yours in the lobby.
So I have to say I did a great job in choosing La Mansion for our very special occasion and although we did stay in their most special room it appears that all the rooms are very nice -- of course smaller than our suite -- but very nicely done and with great views.

We have just returned once again from our fourth stay at this magnificent hotel. We don't
even bother to try or consider anywhere else when we travel over to the Pacific side of Costa
Rica, cause we know it just can't get better than this. The staff is the very best and the owner, Harry Bodan just involves himself personally in making certain that each and every
guest will want to return here again. The rooms are beautifully decorated and there are many
different types of accomodations in terms of view and accessbility to the pool area, the gym,
the famous Jacque Cousteau Restaurant, The Bat Cave Bar, the Internet Cafe, but anywhere
you stay at this hotel, it will feel like "home" because of the graciousness of the Staff and
the personal attention. If you haven't stayed at La Mansion Inn before, do make sure you
experience it on your next trip to the Pacific Ocean side of Costa Rica. You will be glad you
did!

The view from La Mansion Inn truly has to be seen to be believed. It's obvious this is the best view in the area, and the hotel definitely takes advantage of it. We spent many hours relaxing on the lovely sky terrace, ordering food and drinks, unable to believe our luck in getting to enjoy this amount of luxury.

I found the food pretty good-- especially breakfast and lunch. Food in Costa Rica isn't exactly amazing, but this place satisfied us. I recommend exploring for dinner, though. Agua Azul was a favorite worth visiting.

We had a junior suite which was beautiful. Everything was clean and luxurious.

The staff were lovely, helpful and attentive.

I am so glad I chose this hotel-- we really lucked out.

From the moment we drove onto the grounds of La Mansion Inn we knew we had made the right choice on where to stay. Octavio at the front desk greeted us with a smile and all our information was waiting for a smooth check in procedure. The entire staff at the Inn were helpful and polite and always had a smile on their faces. Each one treated us with repect and all should be supervisors. The food, drink and the grounds were supurb. Our driver from the hotel, Bernie went out of his way to suggest places to eat and areas to visit. My travel parnter and I will be back to enjoy La Mansion Inn again in the near future...Keep up the good work...*****

We stayed at La Mansion from 12/5 - 12/8. The GPS gave us perfect directions.

The building itself is very nice, clean and bright. We liked the style. Our room #6 had a great view of the beach and Manuel Antonio. The bed was great. We liked the balcony and the extra grassy area to walk around on. The full breakfasts were excellent. The employees were friendly & helpful. We had visits from monkeys twice. They had a private car to take you to restaurants and pick you back up for less than the cost of a taxi.

In our opinion, here are a couple of minor areas that would make the property better. We had trouble locking the sliding doors leading to the balcony. We let the front desk know and they had maintenance fix it, but it was still difficult to lock. The safe in the closet was not secured to the wall. Someone could have easily walked off with the entire safe. The closet doors were not very functional. They were difficult to close. We did not care for the bat cave bar. It was dark and musty and did not fit in with the style of the rest of the property. We were offered a welcome drink, but the front desk clerk never made good on the offer. We thought the food and cocktails were overpriced, so we went elsewhere.

Like I said, minor issues. Overall, it was a very nice property. I would stay there again if the price was right.

My husband and I were in Costa Rica on our honeymoon, this was our last stop and we stayed 3 nights. When we pulled up we thought, it was very cute, unique and had an overall good appearance. Once we got to our room, it had very cute decor and a nice big bed and the view was out of this world spectacular. That is probably one of the only really good things i can truly say about this hotel is great views. I did notice a foul smell in the room upon arrival but, it is Costa Rica and the humidity is going to cause this sort of a smell most places but, this was bad. Almost like a sewer smell (we were on the first floor). Then that night i got up to use the restroom and when i turned on the light there were about 5 cochroach looking bugs in the center of the bathroom. My husband found that they had raid under the counter (obviously they know this is an issue to have bug spray available) and he killed the bugs, yuck! I didn't really complain yet at that time because my husband is very reasonable and non-confrontational and kept telling me we were in Costa Rica, even though the 2 stops before we hadn't experienced this. We did tell them about the bugs and they gave us more bug spray (thanks). I will say though, the staff was very sweet to us, no one was non-helpful (maybe just a little slow). Eventually i did complain the last night we were there because i couldn't bare the smell anymore and they do advertise as a luxury boutique hotel and they upgraded us to a presidential suite which was very cute. Unfortunately, it was pouring rain the whole time we were in Manuel and even this room had a leak in the window that soaked the whole floor by the window. Luckily our stuff was not laying there or we would have had a whole other list of complaints. i would stay here with caution, don't be afraid to ask to switch rooms. Oh and the pool here is disappointing, the water was cold and it is not well lit up at all. We might have liked to use the hot tub even in the rain but, it was too dark and in a jungle setting.
