What a great place to kick back and watch nature's playground. We stayed there 5 nights in the first bungalow. Although it was a little noisy some nights because of the proximity of the bar/casino, it was worth it for the beautiful view from the balcony. From the confort of our bungalow, we enjoyed watching monkeys, iguanas, frogs and a colourful plethora of insects. The staff was very helpful in suggesting affordable activities and the waiters were very friendly.
The beach is close enough ( about 20 mins walk down hill) although I suggest grabbing a bus or a taxi ( with a counter or else they will charge you double price) to come back up as it is a steep hike if you are not use to walking in very humid temperatures.
Will definitely go back, miss it already!

What a fabulous place!!
We stayed here for 4 nights (leaving in the morning) - the rooms were clean (yes there were ants in the bathroom at night, but that is to be expected and if you spray with some natural mosquito repellent - no DEET - that takes care of them), they clean your room quickly and efficiently during the day. We had Bungalow #5 and we got the wi-fi reception from the restaurant - bonus!!! The grounds are beautiful and they make an effort to keep the natural habitat in tact!!
There are monkeys everywhere and what a hoot to watch!! Early mornings and late afternoon they are very active. We saw Acoutis, birds, butterflies, and various other animals.
The restaurant has a fabulous included breakfast with a variety of choices! The bar is a great place to watch sporting events and have some cheap beers!! There were a few dozen slot machines and other gambling tables, but, I didn't partake so I can't really rate that.
The staff is marvelous, the rooms, grounds, restaurant, bar, etc. is great.
Next time I come to Costa Rica, I will most definitely stay here!
Thanks to all at the Byblos for a great stay!

Room Tip: LOVE the Bungalow!!!!

My husband, best friend and I stayed at Byblos for 3 nights. We had a very nice time and the bungalow was beautiful. The only issues we encountered were black ants in the bathroom, and there seemed to be a towel shortage. We had to ask for more towels (they were not restocked after the room was cleaned), and you are charged if you loose a towel (even if you accidentally leave one by the pool). However, those were only minor issues. We saw a lot of white faced monkeys and heard the howling monkeys early in the morning. Our breakfast was included every day and was very good. We would definitely stay at Byblos again.

Room Tip: The bungalows are the way to go!

The Byblos is a nice middle-of-the-road hotel in Manuel Antonio. We upgraded to a "premium deluxe room", which, as far as I can tell, is really just a standard room which faces the ocean. "Premium deluxe" is a stretch, though. The room clearly hasn't been updated in ages, which although not impressive, would have been fine, but the floor grout was dirty, and there were signs of mold in parts of the room and in the outdated bathroom. The AC unit also looked filthy. Nothing that necessarily warranted a complaint, but there's no denying that the room is in need of a good scrubbing.

The staff at Byblos were amazing. Five star professionals at a three star hotel. They were warm and knowledgable, and humored us by speaking to us in Spanish and supplemented with English, somehow sending that we were trying to speak the language but that we were decidedly beginners. A subtle detail that to me seemed a hallmark of great, customer-centric intuition. Staffers around the hotel were all consistently impressive, and they really deserve a lot of credit for their high level of service.

What was odd is that the owner was clearly present at the hotel throughout our stay, but made no apparent attempt to really introduce himself or ask how we were liking our stay, the town, etc. He seemed to just perch himself at the bar, the restaurant, and elsewhere, looking more like an antisocial guest than an owner of a resort. At some point, his wife (and co-owner, as she mentioned) gave us suggestions on where to move for better wifi reception, but didn't come across as a host, really, and it took us a minute to figure out that she wasn't just a guest with a helpful tip. All in, both of them seem new to the hospitality thing, so their behavior was definitely awkward and borderline downright weird. They really did seem like guests who felt very at home at the resort, not owners who were doing the rounds to make sure things ran smoothly and shaking hands/kissing babies, so to speak, which is what they should have been doing. It was totally mismatched with their staff's level of professionalism. They have a lot to learn.

Nightlife in the area is a bit lacking, so it would be great if Byblos had more going on in the hotel bar in the evenings. We turned in after dinner every night, simply because there was nothing else to do around Manuel Antonio.

If the owners step up their game on hospitality and the rooms get a good clean/slight facelift, this place would be gold. I'd probably stay here again, and that's primarily because of the great staff. But I'd love to see some improvements next time around!

Lovely setting - in the jungle, with squirrel monkeys and Capuchins. Rooms clean, roomy & lots of amenities - frig, micro, TV, hair dryer, etc.. The room we had didn't have a view out the window but stepping outside onto the outdoor hallway was like stepping into the jungle. Very nice pool & great pizzeria restaurant -- which serves all meals. All the food was good & reasonably priced & the pizza was excellent. We did spend a whole day there just relaxing by the pool which the restaurant opens on to. You can basically sit poolside & have your lunch served to you. The staff was very friendly and helpful, pointing out the best places to see wildlife on the grounds.

Room Tip: Only one draw back - there are LOTS of stairs that are not well lit, some are cobblestone and there...

My wife and I just returned from Costa Rica yesterday. We had a wonderful stay at the Byblos Hotel. We arrived there on Tuesday, 10/29, and departed on Sunday, 11/3. We stayed in bungalow #3. Our room was very clean, comfortable and quiet. We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our visit. Melissa & Elizabeth at the front desk were excellent. They took care of every need that we had including arranging transportation, tours and other reservations. Victor, Andres & Kenneth also took very good care of us at the Bistro restaurant. Every meal that we had at the hotel was excellent and the service was superb.
We especially enjoyed the "jungle" feel from the balcony of our bungalow. We were able to observe numerous species of animals and birds that do not exist at home. It was amazing to listen to the jungle come alive with sounds every morning and evening.

Room Tip: The bungalow rooms are very private with a wonderful jungle feel with animal viewing right from the...

This property is in a jungle setting with plenty of chances to see wildlife. They have a sports bar and an excellent pizzeria. Dining at the Byblos is very good. The only problem is that there are many steps to get from the rooms to the facilities.
Rooms are clean and nice. Would recommend this hotel if you don't mind the steps. Older persons with walking disabilities should not use this property,
