“Memorable Accommodations”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 June 2010

Our four day/three night stay at the La Mariposa in early June of 2010 was one of the highlights of an eight-day visit to Costa Rica, our first visit (but not our last) to this wonderful country. After much consideration about accommodations, we finally went with the La Mariposa based on some recommendations we read from travel guides. And, after arriving at the hotel, even our grandest expectations were exceeded!! The view from our room high above the Pacific Ocean and Manual Antonio NP was magnificent and we enjoyed watching from our room monkeys play in the trees and on our balcony. As a matter of fact, we saw more wildlife around our hotel than we saw on a nature tour of the national park. Our particular room did not have a TV, but it was hardly missed with the views we had of the ocean and the wildlife. Our room was spacious, clean and the AC worked very well ... The food and the views from hotel's restaurant were also top notch, making for several very romantic evening dinners. The food, highlighted by fresh seafood, was very good and the daily breakfasts were also very good, espcially the fresh fruit. Besides the incredible views, another highlight of the stay was the outstanding staff. They were extremely helpful and pleasant throughout our stay. I would highly recommend The La Mariposa.

We found this on the Lonely Planet travel guide and got here as the hotel was in the midst of upgrading their rooms. I had asked for a non-smoking room due to allergies, but apparently they don't have exclusive non-smoking rooms around here. Anyway, the staff were wonderful in giving us options to choose a room with minimal traces of cigarette smoke.

As well, the location is excellent - very easy to get to either by car or if you're travelling by bus. The hotel also offers shuttle service down to the downtown Manual Antonio. We were able to walk down to the beach from the hotel. which took about 15 to 20 minutes. However, I wouldn't recommend walking back up. Instead. walk along the beach to downtown area where you can catch the shuttle back to the hotel.

The hotel is a bit pricey for budget travelers, but the hospitality and location was well worth it. This is not on the scale of a Four Seasons, but is more upscale than many other hotels in the area.

The older rooms are spacious, but a bit tired. However, the renovated ones are upscale and beautiful. Most rooms, as well, have wonderful views.

Really a beautiful hotel. Staff was very polite, friendly, and attentive and the views from the infinity pool and dining terrace were just unbeatable, as well as from the balcony of the room I stayed in. In the new part of the hotel, the rooms are designed very nicely. But, I was unhappy to learn that by booking a rental car with the front desk it was $15 more than going directy to the rental agency (which I learned 2 days later when I did so - same exact car). Also, the cab ride from Quepos airport to the hotel was about $8 and when the hotel called the cab for my friend and I to go back to the Quepos airport, the fare was $16! Would have been better if we just walked to the street and hailed one ourselves.

Our recent stay at La Mariposa was one my son and I will never forget. The awe-inspiring beauty, the service, and the unique locale made for an experience that exceeded my hopes and dreams for a mother/son adventure to celebrate my son's 16 birthday. When we arrived weary from the long trip from the U.S., we were surprised to be personally greeted by name at the car by the hotel manager, Carlos. While waiting at the pool for the room to be prepared and gazing at the incredible "180 degree" cliff views of pools, Pacific Ocean, and rain forest, we felt extremely fortunate that we had arrived at this extraordinary hotel. Our room, room 32, was simply decorated tastefully and simply (sans t.v.)- extremely clean and large, and the views from the balcony were spectacular. Sunsets from the balcony were truly unbelievable. Everyone working at the hotel deserves an applause. Andres was especially helpful at the front desk with recommendations and answering endless questions, but everyone we had contact with was friendly and anxious to help in any way. The manager inquired daily about how my son's birthday celebration was going. When we needed to depart the last morning for the airport before 6 a.m., a special breakfast was packed for us the night before and delivered without charge to our room despite the downpouring rain. The afternoon we watched the white-faced monkeys having fun right on our spiral staircase is one we won't forget... or the gorgeous infinity pools with views not to be believed or the vibrant birds that landed on the balcony or eating burgers at seats in the pool bar! We were happily busy everyday with activities the area offered, but it also would have been wonderful just to lounge at the pool all day. The hotel location was also a plus since it allowed us to walk to some great local restaurants like Aqua Azul or The Swimming Pool Pizzeria. The complimentary room w-fi was helpful, and good for down-time after busy days.
Don't miss the opportunity to spend time at La Mariposa. We can't wait to go back.

I recently stayed at the Mariposa with a friend and came away with a pleasurable experience. Views are amazing and staff was friendly. Only complaints were that the access to the rooms in the main hotel are extremely difficult to get to and the complimentary breakfast was horrible. The only reason to stay here is for the views and quiet surroundings the hotel offers. I would recommend to fellow travelers.

The top floor Ocean view room that came with the Ocean View package deal was the most spectacular vista ever for a hotel room. Hotel pools, lovely gardens, rain forest, mountains, and miles ocean and coastline were visible out the large picture windows along two entire sides of the . A wrap around balcony beckoned. The staff from Manifred in Reservations to Luis and Lester in the wonderful restaurant were full of fun and energy and hospitality. The restaurant did a wonderful job with the breakfast buffet and gourmet dinners which were included in the room package. The three of us really enjoyed our vacation of four days at La Mariposa.

This hotel is an amazing place. The views from the rooms and pool area are breathtaking. The pool area has a long infinity pool built around beautiful trees. There are two swim-up bars--one downstairs with lots of shade, and one upstairs with the best views. The sunsets in particular are breathtakingly stunning. The hotel buildings have unique and beautiful wrought iron staircases, railings, and walkways.

The staff is laid-back and friendly in true Costa Rican fashion. They're never annoying, but always willing to help when asked. The breakfast buffet has a large variety of food, and all of it is excellent.

The hotel has a wide variety of rooms. They gave us a free upgrade to one of the newer "premier ocean view" rooms. These rooms are relatively new, and they're stylish and spacious. The balconies are great. If you can afford it, these rooms are probably worth the extra money, compared to the older rooms.
