“Great experience at Tulemar!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2014

My husband and I stayed at Tulemar from May 4 - 10, 2014. We had a great experience there. When we first arrived in our Villa it had an awful smell but it was quickly addressed and we had to switch rooms for the night. There wasn't an upgrade available so we actually stayed in a double room Villa. The next day we were moved to a new king bedroom Villa suite and it was even better than the first. Our amazing concierge, Danny, came bearing an enormous fruit basket (which lasted the whole time we were there) and gave us a $100 voucher for the restaurant and a complimentary 5 hour Catamaran sunset excursion which was fabulous! Everyone at this resort is so helpful and courteous. The drivers, Joshua, Michael, and all the others, who take you at a moments notice, anywhere you want to go on the resort are so nice and very funny and made our experience even more delightful. They showed us where the sloth were every day. You can tell they love their jobs! Orlando was great at the beach which was a wonderful private beach that not too many places have where they make you lunches to order and fresh smoothies too! Janet was a great server at the restaurant where we had an amazing meal. We had a monkey show on 3 separate occasions during our morning coffee on our balcony that looks over to the ocean! Amazing! I would HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone who wants to stay in Manual Antonio on the beach. It has everything from wildlife to beach and MUCH more!

Room Tip: We had a king size room Villa which was perfect for us we didn't really want or need a kitchen a...

My wife and I spent 5 nights at Tulemar in late May 2014. First, the place is without question one of the most beautiful in the area. We were so glad we chose it. It's on almost 40 acres of rainforest like property so you see more nature at Tulemar than even in some of the parks. The whole resort is awesome. Because we booked late, we had to move rooms three time in 5 nights but it all worked out fine. We stayed two nights in the Buena Vista Room. No view of the water but it was still nice and very modern, much more than the bungalows which, while you can't beat the views, are a little outdated. Very clean though so no complaints. It's very close to everything with some good places to eat in walking distance. We took the local bus everywhere which was fun and a way to get in with the locals too. It stops right out front of the resort and costs about 75 cents.

Now for the staff. They were top notch and really made the place what it is. Danny was our concierge and did a superb job showing us around and being available for whatever we needed and reservations too. He took care of moving our luggage and was simply the best. The other staff was also so nice and helpful. Danielle in the bar was so nice and friendly and made us feel right at home. David took such good care of everything on the beach making it so relaxing to hang out in that tropical paradise. He walked around constantly moving towels and chairs out of the way of the tide for those out swimming or kayaking. Viviana at the front desk was a life-saver in helping us change a plane ticket with Sansa and was just an all around friendly face whenever coming or going. The drivers we also very friendly. Josh made a point to stop along the way and point out the animals and even spent time with us finding an elusive sloth.

We could not be happier with the staff and would highly recommend Tulemar as a place to stay.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms from what we could see. The deluxe did not have an ocean view

My husband and I visited Tulemar from May 10th to May 16th. We’ve been home for 10 days and we can’t stop talking about our trip to Tulemar! It truly was our BEST vacation ever. Tulemar is a wonderful property with wonderful staff. From my first contact with Tulemar via a chat session with Alvaro who arranged our reservations, answered my many questions and handled our flight delay with ease the overall customer service we received during our visit was exceptional. During our stay we spent a few nights in Bungalow #115 which is close to the restaurant and pool. For our last two nights we stayed at Bungalow #309 and I highly recommend #309 – spend the extra $ - if your desire is to see lots of monkeys! However, we were very happy with both of our bungalows. The flora is magnificent and the property is well kept. My husband loved the boogie boards at the beach but it was a little too rocky for me. Take swim shoes to avoid getting your feet scratched up. Yes the property is built on a hill so walking down to the beach is easy and a great way to get some exercise. Take advantage of one of the walking trails down to the beach! When you are ready to leave just request a shuttle, it is easy and they are quick. Luis was our shuttle driver that we got to know best. He was always smiling. All of the staff was friendly and willing to help with anything you needed.
On our first day we saw a mommy sloth with her baby who stayed for 2 days in the tree right by the pool / restaurant. During our stay we saw lots of monkeys, iguanas and two toucans. It was incredible. I didn’t want to leave!
We ate at Victoria’s (Italian), El Wagon (great wood fire pizza), and Fish n Chips. Our lunch was provided during our excursions, and we also ate a few meals at Tulemar’s restaurant. We were not disappointed with any of our meals. We didn’t consider the food overpriced. Best of all of these places are within walking distance. A rental car is not necessary. We had a driver to and from the airport.
Our excursions included Zip lining w/ El Santuario (first time and it was so much fun) the guides were courteous, professional, and fun but safety was their first priority; Catamaran Tour w/ Sunset Sails and Minor was our host and along with his crew we had a fun time, met nice people and saw dolphin!; our ATV Tour w/ Safari Tours was a blast. I had never driven an ATV and was a little leery at first but after our practice run I was comfortable riding my own and so glad I did. Roy was our guide and we were very fortunate to be in a group with just one other couple. It was an unforgettable experience and Roy was a great guide. He took pictures of us along with way with our cameras.
We did have a little bit of rain during our stay but it worked around our schedule. We still had many other places we wanted to visit but a week is just not enough time. Every year we go somewhere different but next year we will go back to Tulemar.
Last but not least I need to tell you about our concierge, Orlando. Orlando was outstanding, he checked on us several times a day, made all our excursion reservations, he was always available if we needed him and we would consider him a friend. He works hard to make sure all of his guests are having their best vacation ever and it is obvious he loves what he does!
Thank you to everyone at Tulemar for a truly amazing vacation. We will be back! Lynn and John

Hi whynotlw........thank you so much for wonderful review on your stay in two of our Tulemar properties......the Tulemar Bungalow and the One Bedroom Select Villa......we really appreciate all the comments and the details......starting with our staff and Alvaro......who helped with your reservation and as your on line concierge before you even arrived.......(so nice to have someone you can trust to answer all of those questions and help with the details or problems like a delayed flight!)......and Luis.....one of our shuttle drivers (who always knows where those sloths are hanging around).......and Orlando......your personal concierge within Tulemar.....he really wants all of his guests to have a great stay........thanks for your suggestions and comments on the restaurants and tours......(Minor at Sunset Sails is great - I've know him for about 15 years now!)......sorry to hear about the rocky beach......it's not always that way......every now and then the ocean just seems to spit up lots of rocks.....then they gradually get swept away again.....thanks for booking with Alvaro at tulemar.com and he'll be ready when you are ready to book again!

We stayed at Tulemar during our recent trip in Costa Rica last week. After having extraordinary service at our B&B in La Fortuna we weren't sure all of the reviews would live up to our expectations, but they sure did! Tulemar is unique in the sense that it is a community of privately owned properties all different in their own way. We stayed in Bungalow 117 for 4 nights and couldn't have been happier. Beside the bungalow having amazing 360 degree views, we managed to wake up to so much wildlife every morning. Monkeys, Tucans, all kinds of birds etc. The staff on site really go out of their way to make you feel serviced 24/7. From the time we booked, our online concierge Mari was fantastic. She reserved all of the transportation for our trip which was always reliable and on time and she was also happy to help when we wanted to book some activities in Manuel Antonio. When we arrived on site, our local concierge Orlando made our stay there a delight. He was always there on property to help with all of our extra reservations and questions. He was so friendly and always willing to help. His dining reservations were also spot on and delicious! David down at the private beach was always eager to help with umbrellas, towels, chairs, boogie board and kayaks. Luis one of the drivers around property was also great! He always had a friendly face was willing to go out of his way to help us and also had yummy recommendations as well. The Tulemar team helped make the second half of our trip in Manuel Antonio a fantastic one.

My son and I stayed at Tulemar as our last stop on a ten-day visit to Costa Rica. We were unprepared for how beautiful the resort is - we wish we had planned to stay longer. The view from our bungalow was spectacular, the staff was very helpful and friendly, and the food was great. Incidentally, we saw as much wildlife at the resort as we did in the national parks - white-faced monkeys ran across the roof, and there was a sloth cradling her baby in a tree by the swimming pool.

Hi John S.....thanks for the great review on your stay in one of our Tulemar Bungalows.......while we always welcome 2-3 day reservations......we know the guests will feel the same way as you.......and wish they had more time in Tulemar and the Manuel Antonio area.......and we know it usually means a return stay.....which we love.......yes.....Tulemar is fortunate to have so much wildlife roaming our resort.......with 33 acres.....there's lots of room for all three types of monkeys.....both types of sloths.....exotic birds and reptiles......and while they may not all come right to your Bungalow like you experienced......you can see them daily.....on our hiking trails......at our Beach......or maybe in trees around the pool (a favorite spot for that mother sloth showing off her baby!).......thanks for booking with us at tulemar.com and we hope to see you back again!

If you are reading this to figure out whether or not to go to Tulemar, GO!!!
The property is stunning in all of it's natural and man-made beauty.
The staff treats you like family, if family were always warm, welcoming, and accommodating.
The area around Tulemar is simply fantastic. We found all of the locals to be friendly, honest, and welcoming.
This is the one place to which my wife and I have gone where we weren't treated as tourists from the minute we arrived.
We are always a little sad to come back from vacation, but having to return home from Tulemar and Manuel Antonio has really put us in a funk. The beauty of the place and the spirit of the people simply change you.
Special thanks to Ashley & David for creating memories we will cherish forever.
PS: Bring some good shoes for walking. Sunscreen and bug spray can be bought in any store. A raincoat if you go in rainy season. It didn't rain that much, but we didn't want to miss a minute of outdoors when it did.

My wife and I recently stayed at Tulemar in a bungalow. The staff at Tulemar are first class. They treat guests like royalty. The bungalow was very nice and practical with a great view of the water. The bungalow had a small kitchen area, a living area, nice size bathroom, and a bedroom with two queen beds. The beach was beautiful and private/quiet with a great restaurant on the beach. We love Costa Rica (our third time to this country) and our Tulemar stay reinforced to us why we love Costa Rica.
