“Ezio and the dogs :-)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 March 2014

I was in Didi's 2 years ago, long time, but i still remember the great experience with Ezio and the dogs! usually i am not a dog lover but for some strange reason i filled, already the second day, they really liked me .Fantastic little cosy hotel, reasonable price,at list for Costa Rica, and the owner really helpful. As an expert traveller, Ezio was able to direct us to best way to cross the border to Panama, because all the road where blocked for a reasonable protest of the local indigenous, against their government.

Room Tip: ask to owner for the best room:-)

Let me begin by saying that we like things a bit quirky. When we travel abroad, we don't want to have the same experience as we'd have staying in a hotel at home, so we like properties that are more authentic that represent the heart and spirit of the location. Didi's did just that.

The innkeeper, Ezio, was such a dear - a kind and helpful man who went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable. I've read other reviews that mention "mustiness" and "dog odor" and the reviewer didn't like that Ezio's dog followed them around - but we loved Ulysses-the-dog (and we don't consider ourselves to be dog-people) - our 9-year-old-son immediately bonded with him.

The rooms aren't fancy and there are things that could use some repair, but most of Costa Rica is like that, given the extreme conditions of the rain forest and the heat. We were given the option of fan-only or air conditioning (for an add'l $15/night), and after one night of sleeping with just the fan, we opted for air for the rest of our stay which was much more comfortable (not a lot of cross-breeze in the room).

On our final night Ezio made us a spectacular dinner - more than we could eat. Our finicky kiddo even loved it.

I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Didi's again or recommend it to people who like a more authentic experience.

DiDis CharmingHouse doesn't claim to be a more than an economical B&B and upon arrival we were a bit skeptical as to what we might experience. But we found the rooms spacious and clean and Ezio provided the charm and very nice breakfasts. For an extended stay, there are rooms with kitchenettes. If you're OK with economy, with TV and AC, DiDis is a good value and Ezio's breakfast are sure to hold you untill lunchtime.

Room Tip: For an extended stay in Quepos, the larger rooms with kitchenettes would appear a good choice.

Let it be known that we are not rustic travelers: the Super 8 or Holiday Inn is usually par for us. So, if you are a hostel goer, Didi's may be for you. We found Didi's to be well, well below our expectations. First, Ezio had forgotten our reservation and we were ushered to a wooden enclosure, in the rear of the building (turns out, he had built this addition himself.) The shower (Italian Style) was in the middle of the room and offered no privacy. The toilet was also in the same room- only separated by a divider (with no fan or privacy.) The bed consisted of two twin beds pushed together and we were on the verge of rolling off the bed all night. The power went out several times and even with functional power the room was very dimly lit.

However, Ezio was a very friendly fellow and there a nice seating area / porch. The location of this B&B is also pretty good.

Room Tip: Definitely, definitely get a room with AC. Traveling in January, we would've died without it. (H...

This is a small and perfect B& B as far as I am concerned. When I posted a pic on Facebook recently I wrote a caption that said " not just a place to stay for us, it felt like our home away from home". All I can say is I miss Ezio the owner who has a heart of gold, Elsa the cleaner and although my spanish is terrible and her english was sparse we seemed to communicate daily and felt such a bond with this warm hearted woman...and of course Yulesys the doggie we loved. The night we arrived it was late and we had a kitchenette so wanted to get some food, not knowing the area I felt a little lost to take a bus at night so Ezio was kind enough to go out in the torrential rain to drive my daughter and I to the store. At the store he joined us in shopping to make sure we could find everything! Did I mention that we adore this man! The room and whole place is kept super clean and grounds keeper does a great job with keeping things looking good. Kitchenette suite is big and has lots of room. We found we did no need air conditioning as a fan was sufficient. Although we had a TV in our room we opted to sit out on the deck on super comfy rocking chairs, play cards, read etc, and often watch the tropical storms in awe! Being by a road was not a negative thing, in fact it was perfect as bus stops right outside hotel next door and takes you straight to the beach or national park or going the other way into Quepos for 60 cents and you cannot get lost as it is one road. Nice breakfast included (fruit, toast, coffee, juice) and it is so laid back and casual I just LOVED the entire stay! Ezio is a fantastic cook and he invited us to have dinner our our last night of our 10 day stay and he made a 4 course dinner special dishes for my daughter as she doesnt eat certain things and it was the BEST meal we had in our 5 weeks in Costa Rica! Ezio joined us for that dinner and I was completely grateful for his hospitality! No doubt we are going back but I want to stay much longer next time! You have to just go to understand what I am saying here, Didi's has a charm about it that is very hard to find.

Room Tip: We loved having the kitchenette as we cooked almost every night. But you cannot go wrong staying her...

I loved Didi's B&B, the only reason we stay one night and not three is our son (15 months). My husband and I had to walk our son every second and not able to enjoy breakfast, because our son kept trying to jump into the pool.

It was a peaceful and charming. The owner and his staff were very friendly and helpful. I felt very safe and welcomed here.

The floors creak just a bit, but it wasn't a deal breaker for us.

We were looking for a clean bedroom with A/C and hot water where we could spend three nights at Manuel Antonio.... but we got so much more!!! A very comfortable and tidy bedroom with cable TV and quiet A/C; light fixtures, controllable from the bedside; a kitchenette with a refrigerator, a sink, a small stove and dishware; a clothes-hanging frame and shelves; a spacious bathroom and shower with hot water... and even Wi-Fi connection and parking space!!! Elsa, our friendly maid, cleaned our bedroom and changed our towels and bed linen daily. But what really made our stay extraordinary was Ezio -- our helpful, thoughtful and generous host -- who not only was very attentive to our every need, but cooked delicious and healthy four-course dinners for us at an unbeatable price; he even made us a special Italian banquet (which included two good portions of his superb, genuine tiramisu) and presented us with a bottle of sparkling wine to celebrate our anniversary!!! It really couldn't have been any better than this, and we challenge anyone to find a better value at Manuel Antonio. Grazie mille, Ezio.
