The hotel is extremely comfortable and offers glorious views. The bed was great, the room was spacious, and the bathroom was very comfortable. I didn't try the TV. The balcony is a great spot for relaxing and looking out over the jungle (monkeys and beautiful birds included!) to the ocean in the distance. The pool was very relaxing, and perfect for cooling down in the evening after a hot day in the park and on the beach. Breakfast was very good. Gerald, on the front desk staff, was exceptionally friendly and helpful. I can't say enough about how terrific he is. He greeted me by name when I returned to the hotel in the evening, although I had checked in with someone else before his shift started: "You must be (insert name). Did you get a chance to visit the park today?" He made it his personal mission to assure that I had a great stay, arranging a tour for me AND purchasing my bus ticket back to San Jose (in Quepos before he came in to work). The driveway up to the hotel is very dark after daylight has gone, so if you'll be out after dark be sure to take a flashlight unless you're taking a taxi to the door. The bus stop is very convenient, but make sure you memorize what it looks like so you can get off at the right spot. Two different bus drivers told me they would drop me off there/point the stop out to me, and didn't! I strongly recommend the Villa Vanilla tour if you're looking for something educational and unique, and an alternative to ziplines, hanging bridges, wind saiing, etc. Take plenty of cash, because they don't accept credit cards and you're likely to want to buy spices. The hotel is not located exactly where you'd expect, given the mapping tool on this site, but it's a quick trip by bus down to Manuel Antonio, and it's quieter than the hotels right by the beach and park would be. I was traveling alone, and felt very safe there.

The lush vegetation and narrow road up to the hotel helped to delay the special surprise awaiting . What were we in for?? Upon arriving we were quickly ushered to our room and our eyes beheld a fabulous view. Our room overlooked the ocean from high on the hillside and we were able to enjoy the view from a spacious balcony. The ocean side room also overlooked the large pool below and the adjacent restaurant. You could sit on the balcony in the morning and see toucans flying through the forest canopy.
Our room was spacious, very clean, and tastefully decorated. There was a cute basket on the bed with toiletries and sweets.
The manager was extremely helpful in booking local trips / excursions and giving advice in terms of good eateries and transportation.
Hotel California was only about a 10 minute walk to the main highway where you could take an inexpensive local bus to Manuel Antonio National Park or Quepos (for shopping)! The walk back up to the hotel was fairly steep, however.
The hotel also included breakfast. It consisted of fresh fruits, breads, and eggs.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms will provide a better view of thet

My husband and I celebrated my 40th birthday in Costa Rica and stayed at this hotel which we were both very pleased by. We had a beautiful room with a balcony view that overlooked the ocean and beautiful sunsets! The staff was very friendly and helpful in every way and remembered us on a first name basis from the time we arrived! Breakfast was served poolside with beautiful latin music playing and always great conversation from the staff! Definately a place to stay not only for the value but for the friends you will make in the staff!

We arrived to Hotel California after a 5 hour trip from Monteverde. Gerald greeted us at the front desk and he was wonderful. Very friendly staff all around and very comfortable accommodations. The room was very comfortable and he upgraded us to an upstairs room with a beautiful view. Nice pool with outdoor dining area adjacent to the pool, wifi on the balcony. Delicious full breakfast included. Convenient location to get to just about anywhere but located off the main road a bit so it is very quiet. Be sure to eat dinner at Ronnie's one night - the food was great!

About two weeks each year we enjoy the wonderful hospitality and relaxing atmosphere of Hotel California. For the past seven years we have delighted in watching monkeys, iguanas, geckos, butterflies, and birds. Flowers that cost much money to be delivered by a florist grow wild on the grounds. Hotel California and its staff takes you away from it all. Their concern for and willingness to help guest make it easy to be on a first name basis with them. Our special thanks are extended, as always, to yessenia Sanchez [Jessie],Heiner Cerdas,Gerald Roviera,Alonso Madrigal- Manager and Robbie- Owner.

We had a relaxing stay at this hotel. The staff were very nice and helpful. We were given an upgrade in our room for free. The view of the ocean is great along with catching the sunset. The location is nice as it is quiet, but close to a bus stop to easily visit the beaches at Manuel or the town of Quepos. I would stay at this hotel again and recommend it to a friend as it has a reasonable price and meets basic needs for a relaxing stay.
